Bluebane stalked about amid the trees, searching anxiously for something to eat. The hatchling had gone several days without managing to catch anything, bigger than a mouse, and he was ravenous. He scanned the area before him, and spotted motion off to one side. Turning, he froze at the sight of a strange and frightening creature - a beast with too many eyes, and a very odd body. Bluebane then realized that he was seeing another dragonling, probably close to his own age, and glanced fearfully around. "D-did they get you, too?" he stammered in a low voice. "Where are they?"

Bluebane nodded shakily, his eyes wide. "Y-yes," he replied, clearly deeply upset. "T-they...they killed my sister... one of them changed her ... into an awful shape, she couldn't move, couldn't breathe... then they killed my mother... my whole family..." He squeezed his eyes shut. "They came after me... My father... he killed their leader... drove them off, but he was hurt... he's gone, too..." Taking a deep breath when the stranger asked his next question, he looked up at the him. "I'm Bluebane", he said quietly.

"Yes," Bluebane said softly. "I would like that..." Despite his obvious grief, his stomach demanded attention, and he felt fairly sure that an entire clan of dragons wouldn't fall victim to monsters like those who had slain his family.
