So, every competition there is always one band that just does amazing, and they have something spectacular in their show that not everybody does.


Well, I was wondering, what have you guys seen in these shows that you really want to do in your own band?


For me, I remember 1 show perfectly because it was my good old friend's band and a show I absolutely love and long to play(Les Mis). They did a great job of it, and they dd a bit of singing in it that was just epic. Since I've seen that show, I've always wanted to have a singing part in one of my marching shows, because if done right it brings in such a strong mood from the audience. The closest I've come to this is Pirates in concert band, which we had to sing a part of, and our new stands tune Hey Baby, which everyone loves and we sing part of. Oh, we also had to sing part of America the Beautiful at the same cocnert we played Pirates, because we were doing a patriotic minimovie for our movie themed concert.

Another thing I've always wanted to do is have band-guard interactions. I've seen this done a lot. I remember one specifically where the entire drumline dropped their drums, grabbed flags/rifles and started doing guard work with the guard. Another drum line dropped drums and ballroom danced with the guard. Yet another had the guard kidnap some band people and killed a few. I really like it, especially in classical shows or shows that have a story, so it can better tell said story. I think we were supposed to do this my sophomore year with our Aaron Coppland show, but I don't think we ever got the time to put it in. Now though, we are doing Beethoven, and on e of our sogns is Fur Elise. 5 guys, one for each guard, were chosen to go and ballroom dance with the guard on field. It made me very happy, and now I'm excited. But I do feel kinda bad...all the clarinet boys were too short...(which pretty much tells you a lot about our section, as one of the guys is the tallest kid in the section)

I just really want to play my viola in band. We're playig cival war fantasy, and there when jonny comes marching home in there and Iknow how to play that on my viola. (i play bass clarinet) i just want to stand up and have a viola solo (with an amp of course) and just have everybody stare at me in awe.

Also I play clarinet in jazz band (i'm the only one) and i want a solo there. Stand up and jazz out the clarinet. (CLARINET POWER!)

I'm not in a marching band (my school doesn't have one) just in concert band. I saw one band where they would all start in the correct line-up of chairs then one section had an part to play by themselves. As they were playing that part, they stood up and circled around everyone else, then when they were done, then would sit in another section's chairs while that section got up and walked around. It was very complicated and our band is far too small to do that, but I thought it was neat.

Hells yeah. Well, I don't play that no mores, I'm a tenor. Never did get that clarinet solo. But at least my new dream for band is coming true. And that's playing Jupiter. After almost three years of nagging, I think I finally got to our directer.
