It wasn't often that Adi was still, she was always moving or at the very least talking, unless she happened to be sleeping - and even then, that was no guarantee. As it happened, though, this was one of those rare moments, and she'd dozed off by the lakeside while her dragon lounged in the refreshing water. She'd gone for a swim as well earlier, but had decided to come out and dry in the sun, whereupon she'd fallen asleep.

But not for long. Mazamath had other ideas; though he enjoyed his rider's occasional moments of quiet, she was much more fun when she was awake! She could leave sleeping for nighttime, not bathtime. The large blue sank lower into the water, until only the top half or so of his head was visible, and lurked closer before taking a mouthful of lakewater, which he wasted no time in spraying her with.

The teenager flailed awake, sputtering, and fixed him with a mock-affronted glare. "Maaaz, what'd you do that for?"

Come back in! It is not naptime, Mine, come and swim with me.

"Oh really?" A mischievous grin spread on Adi's face, and she leapt not directly into the water, but at her partner, hanging onto his headknobs.

That is not what I had in mind, but... Mazamath retaliated by tossing his head, all but flinging her into the water.

Aerith gave what Mercy could only take as a snort of amusement as they ambled along the beach. "What's so amusing?" She asked, taking her attention from the ground where she had been studying a particularly unique looking little stone which after only a moments thought she pocketed, maybe she'd find a crafter someday to turn it into a bracelet or something.

'Up ahead mine' Aerith responded 'The blue had practically thrown his into the water' The white responded. 'It looks rather fun, perhaps we should try it sometime'

"What?" Mercy exclaimed quickly glancing down the shoreline to spot this blue and rider, oh she'd known there were others on the beach of course but she hadn't really been paying much attention to what they were doing. Sure enough as Aerith had said a blue and his rider seemed to be having a rather good time in the water - with all the splashing and such however Mercy couldn't quite make out who the rider and dragon pair were..though she tried to know them all by name even if she didn't actually know them personally. "I'm not sure about that Aerith" She told the dragon, not quite sure if the activity looked like fun or not although this pair seemed to be having a good enough time of it.

Aerith scoffed at her 'I bet its fun' The white stated 'Why else would they do it?'

"I'm sure that it is" Mercy replied and having walked close enough now to make their presence known without screaming she called out a friendly "Hello!, Looks like you two are having fun" At the frolicking pair, Aerith stopping beside her to watch with whirling pleasant eyes.

Once she'd finished sailing through the air and flopping into the water, Adi was definitely awake, although her side stung a little. But it was all in good fun, and she was laughing when she surfaced and flipped her hair out of her eyes. "You're terrible, Maz, you know that?"

The blue looked pleased with himself, eyes whirling green. Headknobs are delicate. I had to get you off somehow.

Any potential retort was cut off when she noticed they had company. Adi certainly recognized the pair - even if Aerith weren't such a distinctive color, the bluerider remembered people almost without fail, and certainly remembered all of Mazamath's clutchmates. "Oh, hey Mercy! Hey Aerith!" The young woman beamed. "Did you wanna come in? There's plenty of room! I promise Maz won't toss you."

Only if they stay off my head, he told His before greeting the white. Hello, Aerith.

Now that she was close enough to make out the dragons markings and his rider as she surfaced from the water Mercy recalled the pair - they had impressed at the same time as she and Aerith, Mazamath and Adi she thought the girl liked to be called if she was recalling the names correctly from the various lessons they had had together as their dragons grew and Mazamath had certainly grown into a very pretty looking blue.

"Aerith thinks it looks fun" Mercy responded with a laugh "But I don't know, is the water warm?" Mercy liked to swim as much as anyone she supposed but she had never liked it enough to freeze to do it.

'Mazamath' Aerith greeted the blue pleasantly 'How are you and yours lately?' She asked politely before commenting to her own rider 'I'm sure the water is fine, Mazamath and his are in it'

'Dragons are not exactly good at judging cold' Mercy replied ruefully 'you guys are fine going between but its sharding cold to us humans' She pointed out, still she moved forward a bit and dipped her toes into the water. "It's not to bad" She admitted after a few moments whereupon Aerith gave her a look that could only be interpreted as I told you so....before head butting her into the water up to her knees.

"It's not really warm-warm, but it's not bad," she answered, sincerely hoping the other pair would join them. The worst part of swimming was usually getting out, especially if it was windy. Then it was cold! "Better'n it'll be in a couple months, that's for sure."

When Aerith bumped her rider in, Adi laughed, and Mazamath also made an amused sound. That was much gentler than the blue's way of getting His into the water. "Well, she's making up your mind for you!"

We are well, as ever. Mine is very curious about all these goings-on at Benden, she talks about it all the time. Neither of the pair was inclined to be anything other than good - there would have to be something bad going on externally for them to not be happy or at least content. There were certainly things happening, but nothing of the sort that would ruffle their feathers, so to speak. You two?

"Aerith has a tendency to do that" Mercy told the other girl with a mock weary sigh and an equally mocked glare at her dragon who merely stuck her nose in the water and blew bubbles at her in amusement. Of course now that she was in the water she certainly didn't want to get out again for a little bit, the water wasn't bad now that she'd gotten over the getting in part and she wasn't eager to walk back to her weyr soaking wet.

"So what do you think of all the rumors floating around? She asked Adi having gotten the impression from Aerith that Mazamath had mentioned it. If Mercy remembered correctly Adi was generally pretty well informed when it came to Weyr gossip. Perhaps she had heard something Mercy hadn't.

'We have been hearing things about it as well, it is troublesome this tension between the weyr's. dragons and riders ought to be working together not bickering aver plants nor bragginf over egg size' Aerith told Mazamath, the issue of the egg size was espechially disturbing to the white - everyone knew her own egg had been fairly small, heck she was still small, even Mazamath dwarfed her in the department and he wasn't one of the larger colors to begin with. Aerith wasn't at all fond of this 'larger is better' mindset some of the riders were following.

"The clutch is awfully exciting!" Adi began, always eager to share what she knew. "Seventeen eggs is a lot. Can you imagine? And big ones, too... I wonder if Feynath'll have that many." Maybe she'd have more! Although Benden had gotten special treatment from the Ancientcrafter, so maybe Malvren's clutch would be more like Trine's. That had been a pretty good one, she'd heard.

"Everything else, well, that's not so good." The girl sighed while she treaded water. "I wish everyone would just get along. We're all dragonriders, so what's the problem? Colors? It's just silly."

"And that Ancientcrafter, I hope he comes back. They say he just disappeared - maybe something happened to him? I don't know why he'd just up and leave."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 24, 2011 9:33 am

"I wonder at how big the eggs really are and how much of it is just Bendens bragging" Mercy mused slightly, everyone knew the older Weyr was a proud one and they would certainly be the type to put a bit of an extra bump to the story, although anyway you looked at it 17 eggs and a Queen egg was impressive regardless.

"I wish everyone was getting along - then we'd maybe get the chance to go and see the clutch and the hatching, I love hatchings..but I highly doubt they'd be welcoming really, what with the Weyr Women not getting along, and they wouldn't like Aerith anyways..even though the sire was a Benden dragon" No Mercy would certainly not be able to go an see this hatching nor see how large these eggs truly were. She would just have to wait for Malvrens next clutch to get her hatching fix she supposed "And in any case we're going to have far more important things to deal with soon anyways - everyone knows that blasted star is getting closer" She stated with a glance towards the sky even though the red star wasn't visible at the moment.

"I have to guess that something happened to him - I mean he was old, I can't see him wandering to far at his age, but that doesn't explain why he hasn't been found yet. Something is definitely going on there" She agreed, treading water along with the other girl while Aerith waded out a bit further to enjoy the water herself.

"Oh man, I wish we could go watch...I want to see for myself how big those eggs are, and the dragons, I wonder if they'll have a giant green or something." Wouldn't that be cool? A great big green the size of Maz! She deflated a little at the mention of the Red Star, though. "I'm kind of scared of it. I mean, I know it's part of being a rider, but...it's still scary."

"I dunno, sometimes old people get a little addled. I've heard stories of 'em going wandering. If he left the Weyr, anything could've happened to him. Felines, whers - shards, he could've just fallen or something." It was kind of frightening when you thought about it, really, how many bad things could happen. Adi really didn't like to think about it.

Do not worry, Mine,
Mazamath assured her, endearing, I am here to keep you safe.

"That would be kind of neat, a giant green, I wonder if it would still be as agile as greens normally are or if that would mean it flew more like a blue" She pondered for a few moments "I bet it would fly like a blue" She suddenly decided though she doubted they would ever really find out - well unless Malvren's clutch was also huge.

"It would be silly not to be scared I think, Aerith and I are too but Maz has grown into a good sturdy dragon, I'm sure he'll be excellent in a wing and the training will prepare us about as well as we can be I think" She offered helpfully "Everyone will take care of everyone in their wing" She assured her, that was the point of all the training right? So they would know what to do and be able to handle it when it happened.

"That is true" Mercy agreed "I recall a few elder people when I used to work with the healers, sometimes they didn't really know where they were..but this guy must have been fairly lucid right? I mean to do what he did with the mystweed. I hope they find him...even if something did happen to him it would be sad not to know, not to you know..pay respects and such. "

"Yeah, probably more like a blue," Adi agreed. "Bet she'd give the boys a real time of it when she flew." This sort of imaginative speculation was fun! Much more lighthearted than the rest of their discussion was turning out to be.

Mazamath was clearly pleased by Mercy's assessment of him, taking a moment to preen. To his rider, he mused, At least we know that with Thread coming, our practice will be worth it. If they'd been of a generation that might not have had a Fall, the blue would have groused about having to expend the energy on practice. "Well, I hope we get a nice Wingleader at least," the girl shared with a giggle, "Maybe even a handsome one."

"Yeah, it would be awful to never know...who knows, maybe he did just decide to move on."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 24, 2011 4:48 pm

"She would I bet, all the boys would be terribly frustrated I imagine, but it would certainly be something to see" Mercy agreed as she pondered the thought of the giant green some more, not that Mercy was all that worried about size - but it was still an interesting thought given the general 'this size does this' way of thinking about the weyrs. "It would probably bug the Bendens riders too I bet, they're so stuck in thier ways, I mean if they can't accept the Atypicals how would they feel about a giant green or a giant blue taking on roles they don't normally do?..Maybe it will teach them to be more open, that would be nice" Of course it was all speculation at this point but it was a nice thought, that this strange clutch would somehow bring them all together. Mercy wasn't going to hold her breath about it though.

"There are a few handsome bronze riders" Mercy agreed with a laugh "Handsome and throw in a good temperament and it would be great" She assumed it would be one of the older bronze riders anyways, most of the time she was pretty sure it was.

"Maybe he got tired of growing weeds, I mean he was an ancientcrafter - not a farmcrafter" She pointed out - it was a different and far more positive way to look at the older mans disappearance and Mercy found herself hoping that that was indeed the case.

"Ha!" Adi couldn't help but laugh with amusement at the thought of Benden getting 'weird' dragons - maybe then they'd learn! "Maybe one of those great big eggs they're so proud of has a great big blue that'll be a Wingleader someday." Now that would be something!

Don't get too many ideas, now. Mazamath was big, but nowhere near that big. And leadership took too much energy, and was not fun at all.

"Yeah, looks aren't much if they're real wherries. But if they're nice and good-looking, that would be pretty much perfect." Not that she was especially active in that department, not the way some people were, and any Wingleader would almost certainly be at least ten turns older, if not more. But it was fun to talk about nonetheless!

"You know, I hadn't thought about it like that. That's a really good point." Personally, she didn't think Farmcraft would be boring, but she liked 'weeds.'
PostPosted: Sun Sep 25, 2011 12:59 pm

"That would be something to see, I could see a large blue being just as good as a brown and browns have been wingleader's before" It was possible right? Mercy thought it might be, anything was possible at some point in time, of course she was sure that such a pair would probably have to work harder to prove themselves then a brown or bronze pair but if they were persistent enough it was plausible.Or at least that's what she liked to believe.

'you ought to believe that about us as well mine' Aerith prompted internally and Mercy cast the white a fond look 'I do love, I do and always will' She promised - even if it was hard sometimes. Turning her attention back to her conversation while Aerith returned to lounging in the water she nodded knowingly at her fellow rider "Of course there's not just the Wingleader to choose from, if he's cranky there's always the wing second...or any of our fellow wingrider's, There's some good looking riders in our ranks"

She agreed it was nicer to look at the more positive point of view when it came to the ancientcrafter - she'd much rather he just got bored and left then have had something happen to him. "Of course if he did do that it was kind of rude" She commented with a lsight laugh "To just up and leave like that"

"Hmm, true...and some of the other wingriders'll be closer to our age, too. Not that you can't be attractive and middle-aged, but I think maybe the older ones aren't as likely to go for brand-new riders." Adi wasn't especially picky - not that she'd ever actually slept with anyone significantly older than her - as long as the other person was nice and fun to be around, that was the main thing.

"Listen to me, I sound like some deprived Weyrling," she laughed, shaking her head. "I swear that's not all I think about."

"Yeah, that's awfully inconsiderate. If he did just decide to leave, he should've at least been nice enough to leave that formula."
