They were taunting him. There, under the water, all smug and haughty. Teasing him with a flip of a tail fin, just barely breaching the lake's surface. He could see them, oh yes he could, and two bright lime green eyes were trained on each and every little movement.
Lower legs were bent, crouching him down low to the water's edge. And his rump, which seemed to perpetually wiggle back and forth in the air, was perched much higher above. Long, fluffy tail was swishing back and forth uneasily. He was ready to pounce.
With a sound that was almost a mixture of a whinny and a yowl, Lance sprang forward like a shot. Water splashed everywhere -- much to his dismay, wetting his immaculate white pelt -- and there was so much thrashing, it would have been hard to see exactly all that went on.
But, alas, Lance was not triumphant. And for his efforts all he got was not a fish, but an extremely wet tail.... pity.

Laying on the soft grass behind a bush in the shade, Sparkles was just about to doze off for her afternoon nap when she heard something splashing in the nearby lake.
She propped herself up a bit, cocking her head to the side to peek around the bush and was abruptly hit in the face by some air born water. It took her a few minutes to realize what had just happened, lowering her gaze she saw water dripping from her fur and she hopped up quickly, stomping out from behind the bush.
"What do you think you are doing?!"
Shaking her head quickly to get rid of the excess water, she stared forward at the other pony, swishing her tail back and forth quickly out of agitation.

Lance's first thought was to run away -- go darting off through the grass, wide eyed, to find a spot in the sun to dry off. It had only been mere moments since his quick dip in the lake and yet the cool water was already much to chilly for his liking. And far too wet, much... much too wet indeed.
But the feline-like pony took a few steps out of the water, fluffing out his tail as he went, before his green eyed gaze was met with a rather... annoyed looking pony. One that appeared to be very much like himself.
How interesting...
"Catching fish," he answered simply in reply while dropping to sit on his haunches several feet from the water's edge. His head bent and a front leg raised and he brushed at the side of his head with the soft edge of his hoof. "What are you doing?"

Taking a step back, she sized up the other pony, scrunching her face up a bit before mumbling.
"I was getting ready to take a nap." Yawning absently, she shook her fur out once more before falling back down onto all floors to lay in the grass, keeping her gaze on him.
"Suppose that won't be happening now!" She shrugged her shoulders and tilted her body toward the direction the sun was facing to help dry her off quicker. "Did you manage to catch anything? I try to all the time, but they are too fast for me."

Hmm... a nap sounded quite nice. A nice, long, lazy nap -- perhaps in a thick patch of sweet-smelling grass, under the warmest rays of sunshine. This bright pink pony had the right idea!
Lance stood slowly and bent down on his front legs again, this time to streeeetch his body out. Then with a pleased little mewl, the feline-esque pony trotted over purposely to paw not once, but twice at one of the pink female's ears with one of his fluffy feet. And he did it all so casually, as if it was expected of him.
"Not this time," he replied again, but with amusement in his voice. "I think I have the technique down, though."

Her ear twitched slightly when he pawed at it and she gave him a small smile before tilting her head to the side, watching his hoof intently as it waved back and forth.
"Aren't you forward.. Barely even know me and you already playing with my ears!!"
She lunged forward trying to grab at his hoof with her own, her tail moving back and forth quickly as she bounced around him, trying to get at his feet.

Oh, now it was a game. Before, it had simply been... habit, he supposed, that made Lance want to bat a little at the fluffy female's ears. But now? With her grabbing for his hooves? It was a game!
One Lance would not lose!
His thick tail flicked to and fro at an alarmingly fast rate as he deftly jumped back each time the other feline-like pony even got close to his hooves. He let out an amused murr, which must have sounded like a growl and a purr combined, before he hopped excitedly around her as she circled him in turn.
And then he grinned triumphantly, in the best way a pony could, and bent to snag the pink pony's tail between his teeth -- giving it a good, firm tug before he took off in the opposite direction. A white blur above the grass, bolting along the edge of the lake.

Jumping up in the air slightly when he pulled her tail, she spun to face him, crouching low to the ground before crawling forward ever so slowly and when he wasn't paying attention she darted forward, stretching her front legs out to tackle him into the water.
"I win!" She pinned him to the ground in the shallow water, nodding once before giving him a wide smile and hopping off, swatting at a fish quickly as it swam past.
"One of these days.." She shook her head, standing in the water like a big, drowned pink rat.

In the water? In the water?! Lance, the pony in him be damned, screeched as loud and as high-pitched as his vocal chords could go once his back splashed down into the shallow end of the lake. He thrashed, long after the pink female had climbed off of him, and successfully ended up splashing himself more in the water than if he'd merely stood up.
He was only slightly wet before, but now.. the poor thing was drenched to the bone. His glorious, wonderful, splendidly fluffy tail hanged droopy and flat behind him. That was a shame, such a horrible shame!
"I don't think so!" Win? Pfffft! Think again, pretty kitty. And Lance darted over to stand next to the female -- promptly using one of his front legs to swat in the air around her head.

Watching him for a moment, she laughed quietly before walking over to stand next to him, bumping him with her hip hard enough to knock him back down into the water before making her way back onto land.
"I win, again." She smiled and shook her fur out once more, letting droplets of water spray all over the surrounding trees and grass.
"Feet are gonna be muddy now." She huffed, before shrugging and plopped back down onto the grass to resume drying off in the sun.

Lance's poor fur. It was always so pristine. Perfect. It took him hours of grooming (or attempting to groom; sometimes a pony's body just doesn't want to bend in ways that would make grooming easy!) to get it as exquisite as it always was.
But now it was dingy with lake water nastiness. And flecked with little bits of mud. And so wet, it was dripping audibly against the ground as he slowly crawled out of it.
He looked pitiful -- much like most fluffy creatures do when wet. Much smaller than he did while dry, with such a forlorn look upon his face. Pathetic.
And harboring much anger.
"You can win," he conceded. "For now, at least." Then dragging himself over to where the pink female laid, he positioned himself so he was standing slightly over her...
...before giving himself a thorough shake, casting every little droplet of water down onto her.

Looking up at him, she narrowed her eyes before shaking her head slightly and sighing. "I'm already drenched, a little more water can't hurt."
Lowering her head, she rested her chin on the grass, closing her eyes slowly before letting out another yawn, she needed to nap, and after that sudden burst of energy, she wanted it even more now then she did before.
Mumbling quietly, she opened one of her eyes to watch him, her tail swaying back and forth, flicking water off to the sides.
"You just gonna stand there and drip water on me?"

"No, I suppose not." Wetting the pink female's fur further seemed to... quell the annoyance bubbling up inside Lance. Even though he too was still soaked to the bone, he seemed content to flop down on the grass next to the unknown mare and sprawl out on his side.
It wouldn't take long, surely, for the warmth of the sun to re-fluff and dry. And it would feel rather nice, he figured, to stretch out in the sunshine and lazily nap that time away.
He wriggled himself a little in the grass, just to get more comfortable, before letting out a long, drawn out yawn of his own. Then he drew a leg up, making a rumbling noise in the back of his throat that surely was meant to be the pony equivalent of a purr, and began to lap idly at the front of his hoof. A very feline mannerism, but one that Lance felt compelled to do.
But where his leg was positioned, it hovered above one of the pink pony's legs. And as he licked his own hoof, with both eyes closed, he... went into the zone. The zone of grooming. And his slightly abrasive tongue began to lick at the female's leg as well as his own (though he was obviously trying to lull her into a sense of security!).

Laughing quietly, she watched him for another moment before resting her head back down against the grass.
"You know.. that kinda tickles when someone else does it." She nodded once, tilting her body to roll onto her other side so that the sun could start drying that fur as well.
"By the way, I didn't mention this earlier.. but my name is Sparkles."
Her ears flickered slightly as she watched a tiny butterfly flutter past, pawing at it out of habit before it got out of her reach.

Could one speak while in the zone? Lance wasn't sure. He'd never tried -- no one seemed to bother him when he had that listless, glazed over look in his eyes that meant he cared about grooming his fur and nothing but!
He took a small pause between laps and responded, in a quiet grumbly voice. "I'm Lance, but I'm not sorry if it tickles." And just to prove his point, the white feline-like pony moved both of his front legs to clamp them down and around Sparkle's leg, tugging it over and holding it in place. He then took to grooming her leg with much enthusiasm, his eyes fogging over once more.
