Mot had stopped drinking Xiu's tea. As much as it helped him sleep when needed, the knowledge that too little of it made him loopy was scary. Anything that impaired his judgement was frowned upon in his eyes.
Because of this, he'd been lacking sleep yet again. Sure he had ways to cope, but being tired all the time didn't help his mood. Sometimes he was sulky, then the next minute he was giddy again. It was exhausting mentally.
So, needless to say, when Mot got a text from Xiu saying she had made a new remedy, he was all over it despite the history of her tea and him. The reaper agreed to the testing, asking her to meet at his place; Falling asleep in a ghoul's bedroom would not be gentlemanly.
He waited, in a t-shirt and pajama bottoms, sprawled horizontally across his bed with his feet drumming on the wall and his head hanging over the side of the bed.
The door was left wide open.

Xiu felt terrible. For whatever reason, the last brew of tea she had made for Mot had gone horribly wrong. In the end, they had managed to bypass the side effects by having Mot drink three cups worth at once, but...honestly? It was still bothering her, and when she remembered the reaper's reaction when he had learned what happened...
In the end, she had called her grandmother to go over what had possibly gone wrong. After chatting with her for a while, the Baku had immediately gotten to work on a new brew of tea. There had been a lot of self-testing--for both taste and efficiency--but after a week or two, Xiu finally had a new tea that she was certain would work better this time around.
Hopefully.
This time, she had made the tea already and was bringing it over in a thermos. As she made her way to the reaper dorms, the Baku was a little surprised to find that Mot's door was already open. Poking her head in, the ghoul's brows knit together in concern as she noticed her friend sprawled across his bed. Raising a hand, she knocked lightly on the door frame to announce her presence, and then smiled.
"Mot...how have you been?"

Mot turned his head, staring at Xiu upside down. Even with his head nearly touching the ground in his ridiculous state, somehow the hat stayed on. The reaper raised a hand in greeting and smirked. "Howdy, Xiu." He replied back. The reaper threw his arms back behind his head onto the ground, and did a back handspring off the bed, landing standing up.
Why?
When you have many a sleepless night like Mot, you find ways to entertain yourself.
"Oh, sorry for the state of dress." He refereed to his pajamas, tugging on his skull decor t-shirt. "Taking precautions in case I pass out like last time. Sleeping in jeans and chaps isn't nice at all." It was a wretched thing to wake up in.

...
Wow, that had been impressive.
The Baku gaped at the cowboil for a moment before shaking her head. "I'm not going to ask you how many times it took you to perfect that." She was also not going to mention the fact the idea of herself trying out that move out when she was back in her room had crossed her mind. Xiu was certain that she would probably break something if she were to give it a go.
Sigh. What a pity. It was so cool looking too.
"Oh, don't worry about it! I should have had the foresight to warn you to change last time." Then again, a lot of things didn't go according to plan the last time. Taking a deep breath, she raised the tea themos and offered Mot a small smile. "Um...this is a new brew. I tried to tailor it for you specifically, so it should work." That probably wasn't very reassuring. What could she do to assure him that it was perfectly safe--
"O-oh! And I tried it out on myself first, so..."

To say it only took a night would be lying. There were many falls, bumps and giving ups over a span of many nights. The reaper found it was a good way to rid himself of excess energy, though the chances of making himself sleepy doing it were only slightly enhanced; he still failed to get sleep 80% of the time. Still, Mot grinned proudly. He'd achieved something through it all.
The emergence of the tea made Mot slightly nervous. If it worked, then he would be well on his way to sleeping like what would be considered normal to most denizens of Halloween. Or at least those that slept.
The one thing that encouraged him; Xiu had tested it herself. "Well, that's a relief." Had she not tested it before? Worrisome. The reaper approached Xiu, taking the thermos from her tiny hands and eyeing it carefully. The reaper hummed to himself, making his way to the small kitchenette and getting himself a mug. "How have you been, Xiu? Things are good?" He asked, making small talk as he poured his tea. It would be rude to simply take the tea and kick the ghoul out.

With the tea safely delivered, Xiu wasn't sure if she should stick around or just leave. On one hand, she wanted to make sure that this brew worked as it should (and that she would be around to stop Mot if it affected him as it did last time), but on the other hand, it was always a little awkward to linger when people were trying to fall asleep.
Granted that she had done it a lot when she was with those who volunteered for her dream-diving attempts.
"Oh! Um, I've been..." A pause, "...W-well, I suppose? Had a lot of things to keep me distracted lately, h-haha. And you?" Immediately after she asked that, the Baku recalled the call that she had received from Roch a few days ago. The one that Lizzy had been with her to hear, and where Roch and Mot had been singing.
...
"...What...what was, um, that last time?"

Mot paused, having just finished pouring his tea. His hand lingered on the cap of the thermos for some time, eerily silent he stayed. The day he and Roch made fools of themselves. Oh dear. He'd hoped that was just a made up daymare of sorts.
"Erm...." He lowered his unseen eyes, tightening the lid on the thermos and setting it aside. "A dare." He replied, rather honestly. Turning with mug in hand, he leaned against the counter, taking a sip from the tea. Good thing this tea was supposed to make him sleepy, otherwise he'd have some other worry to keep him up that night. "We were making fun of each other and ended up having to phone... some people.. and sing for them." Hel included...
The reaper took another sip of the tea, turning his head from Xiu. "Sorry."

Oops. Should she have not brought it up? Mot didn't seem upset, but it also didn't seem as if it was a memory he really wanted to recall. Clearing her throat, Xiu smiled and shook her head quickly. "No, no! Don't apologize! I was just...surprised, was all." Okay, and a little embarrassed too. It would have been embarrassing enough if she were alone, but with Lizzy there listening in with her too...
She kind of knew how the boils felt.
Shaking her head, she gestured towards the tea. "When you're ready, Mot--...h-hey, um...actually, if it's not too strange for me to ask..." The idea had come to Xiu suddenly. Lately, she wasn't getting as much dream-diving practice in as she would have liked. Would the cowboil perhaps allow her to...?
"...You remember my, um, request on Groanspring before, right? About...dreams?"

Mot was mid sip when Xiu seemed to want something. He paused, tilting his head. "Ask away."
"Dream diving, right? I remember. How is that going, by the way?" He asked, taking another sip of the tea. Mmm, relaxing~. He hoped she never ended up going to that one boil's house after they had their talk.

It never was particularly easy for the Baku to ask. After all, it wasn't as it you could go up to any old stranger and ask if you could root around in their dreams for a while. As Xiu had learned, many people had things floating around in their minds that they didn't want others to see. Would Mot be the same?
"It...it's going well," The Baku smiled nervously, reaching up to tuck her hair behind her ear, "I-I mean, I haven't really had a chance to do any dream diving in a while, and--...Mot, what kind of dreams do you have? I mean...are they things you don't want people to see?" Yes, that was her roundabout way of asking him whether he would allow her to peer into his dreams once the tea took effect.
Speaking of the tea..."How do you feel?" Xiu gestured towards the mug that he held, hoping that she had managed to perfect this custom brew.

Mot could be thick at times. He was a smart boil, however. He could put two and two together. Xiu wished to try out her dream diving some more.
"I don't remember them well, so I'm not sure what I dream of." He paused, as if he wouldn't touch on the subject anymore. even taking a slow sip of his tea. He smiled and gave a short chuckle. "Did you wish me to be your test subject tonight?"
The tea was certainly already having an effect. Mot could feel it calm him down, mellow him out. "Sleepy, but not groggy, which is nice." There was nothing pleasant about going to bed feeling like your head weighed like a ton.

At the question, the baku fidgeted shyly and gave a little bob of her head. "Oh! I mean, if you aren't comfortable with it, t-then it's okay, but..." But if his dreams weren't too personal, then she would love to take the chance to practice her ability a little more. Besides, if Mot was the type of person to have random dreams, the Baku was a little curious about what she would find lurking in the mind of the cowboil.
Upon hearing his reply about the tea, Xiu visibly brightened, clasping her hands together happily. She had done it! It had taken a long time and a lot of testing (in some cases, she had knocked herself out cold for a few hours and woke up with a headache), but the end result seemed to be perfect. It was definitely a big step up from the last attempt.
"That's good! You...you should probably lie down soon, or at least sit down." She added the last bit a little nervously, afraid that he would somehow pass out suddenly.

Mot shrugged, shifting his weight to the side. "I don't mind. It's just a little embarrassing knowing you'll be poking around my head." Not to mention trying to get comfortable and sleep knowing someone was in the same room. He could barely sleep on his own let alone that. The tea would probably help.
"Good idea." Mot was glad the tea was working, more so for Xiu than himself. She seemed happy. He took one last sip of the remaining tea and set it on the counter. The reaper made his way to his bed, sitting down and rubbing his eye. Boy, that stuff was really working.
"So I just.. fall sleep then?" He asked curiously. Maybe there was some kind of voodoo dance involved, what did he know?

Oh, phew! He really didn't mind? Relaxing slightly, Xiu smiled and gave a little wag of her tail. "I-if it helps, I can promise you that...anything I see, I'll keep to myself." She had managed to keep what she learned about Shun, Mitsu, and Moure to herself all this time, so she was certain that she could do the same for Mot...if he was actually hiding an unhappy past of some kind. Honestly, the Baku was both excited and frightened to see what her friend's dreams were like.
It was a nice little confidence boost for Xiu to see that the brew had worked perfectly, and she settled a little distance away from the bed when Mot went to lay down. The most important thing to her about beginning the dream diving process was...well, making sure that her volunteer was comfortable with her presence. It wouldn't do for her to sit extra close and stare at her volunteer as they slept.
That would just be jackdamn creepy.
"Yup! That's all there is to it." Sitting down on the ground, she wriggled herself into a more comfortable position and closed her eyes. Now just to wait until the tea fully took effect.

"I trust you." Mot smiled, being assured the ghoul would not go telling everyone if he dreamed he was naked during an assembly or something. Geez.. he sure hoped he didn't dream that. More for Xiu's sake than his own. With only the falling asleep part left to do, Mot settled into bed. The tea ad worked its wonder, with Mot sleeping soundly after only a moment. ~~~ Behold. The wild west. A land of dust and grit. Each town in this land is governed by a member of the Royal Family of Amnity, a big city to the north, ruled by King Riley; a wickedly powerful madam of Fear and Terror. As of late, folks around here are on edge. There have been a group of bandits who come to towns in the night, stealing not money, jewels or possessions. No. They have been kidnapping the royal princesses that govern each town.
This story takes place in a small dingy town called Little Twister, where our hero resides, intent on rescuing those who have been held captive. The narration ended, revealing a dingy little western village. In it's center was Mot, adorned in a fancy getup, wielding twin revolvers. He stood at a pole, where a wanted poster hung. On it, detailed the identities of the Princesses, their last known whereabouts, and mug shots of the bandits behind the crimes.
