Kateri had landed in a clearing near a lake. She had been flying for almost half a day, searching for others different from her own kind. She enjoyed other hypogryph, but she knew there was so much else out there. She had heard the stories of the giant, dragon-like soq, called Kalona, to the magical, and mysterious Kirin. She wanted to see all of them, far and wide. Maybe even some who were like her in some ways, but different in others. She extended her long neck, going to get a drink from the cool waters of the lake, feeling the water tickle her beak as it rippled lazily as she gulped down the liquid. She went to lie down, stretching out her aching wings as she did so, nestling into the soft sands near the lake. She'd rest here for awhile before moving on. She wasn't stupid, and she knew over exerting herself would only lead to disaster, and that was not on her agenda for the day.

Cayden always preferred walking to flying. He couldn't exactly explain why: flying certainly had its advantages, especially when getting out of danger or having to cross a particularly annoying tertian. But of the most part, the stallion just loved the feel of the ground beneath his hooves. The sound of the clouding hoofbeats over grass sounded thick and purposefully, while the sound of his hooves on rocks sounding tinny, like the beat of music. It kept his legs strong and muscular, and generally felt like he was much more in control of his surrounding with his all four of hooves on the ground.

He had travelled this land before, and he knew there was a lake close. He could use a good drink and a swim. It was still warm and hot in the late summer season. He trotted over the body of water, not even noticing the other Soquili napping in the sands until he turned to go. He nodded cordially, but then paused. It wasn't like him to stare, but there was something very different about this Soquili. "Hello," he said, slowing to a stop in front of her. "Nice day today, yes?" he asked in greeting, hoping she was the friendly sort.

Kateri opened her eyes, blinking a few times at the sight before her. She immediately stood up, her claws going into the sand as if to keep her from running. She felt foolish as the world began to set itself right in her eyes. She had been startled from sleep. It wasn't like her to run at the sight of another life form. She enjoyed them. Blushing from the small embarrassing moment, she walked closer to him, cocking her head like a bird as she analyzed him. He was certainly something different, that was for sure. "What are you?" she asked rather pointedly. She walked behind him, still twitching her head from side to side as she analyzed him. His horns set her on caution. She was aware of kalona, but she didn't exactly think he was one.

Coming to stand in front of him again, she raised an eyebrow, a small hint of a smile playing at her beak. He seemed like a friend, not so much a foe, but she could never be too careful.

Cayden backed up a bit as he seemed to have startled her. He planted his most charming smile on his face, trying to look non-threatening. At her pointed question, however, he tilted his head a bit, confused. His thick mane of red hair fell over his shoulder, reaching almost to the ground. "I'm uh…. happy to meet you?"

His eyes followed hers up to his horns and he smiled sheepishly. "Oh, you mean? I got them form my father, uh, at least that what's my mom says. He wash't a Kalona or nothing, so don't worry. I don't eat meat or nothing like that."

Kateri relaxed a bit, her feathers smoothing out over her coat. She offered a simple smile, listening to the other's almost comedic responses. "Pleasure to meet you as well, uh..." she fumbled over the words, realizing he had not yet offered his name. "I'm Kateri, and you?" She looked at his hair, wondering how hard it must be to take care of such long hair. Her eyes traveled to her own feathers, she wondered if she looked weird to him, or pathetic. Her claws dug into the sandy beach of the lake, cooling her talons a bit with the moist minerals. Her attention diverted back to him, her eyes locking on his own in curiosity.

"Well, its nice to meet you, Kateri," he said with a confident smile and slight lift of his head. He noticed her looking at his hair and took the opportunity to shake it out and toss it over his shoulder with a flourish. "My name is Cayden. Are you from around here?" he asked.
