Things had been topsy-turvy in Braden's family life lately. His cousin had gone missing and everyone had assumed the worst(probably eloped with another woman, his family was whispering), he was being called a liar by his father who still didn't believe his story of a mugger taking his shoes late one night, and with school coming on he wasn't able to get in as much running as he had been all summer and now his father's family were calling him lazy. Which, when he thought about it, wasn't new at all. How they managed to always pick him out as the family's biggest problem, despite everything that happened in Destiny City daily, he had no idea. He really was just that big of a dissapointment, after all. Still, even with that so firmly planted in his head-- Today had been a really good day. He'd been offered a position as a TA, he hadn't once scared anyone off when he'd talked to him, and though he felt it was all a set up it felt good. Life was doing him a favor and he was grateful.

Life in Destiny City was never easy and never good for too long. There was always a bump to be hurdled over, a wall to run face first into, whenever something good seemed to happen.

Bad never liked to be beaten down for too long, and when people started to get complacent, that's when it attacked in full force. Sometimes quite literally. Youma and the agents of Chaos were its enforcers.

And the senshi and knights had to stop them.

Or sit back and watch until things looked particularly interesting, as was Chaonis' chosen method of dealing with his patrolling duties. He was often slacking off, amusing himself in various ways while telling himself he was on patrol and doing good.

He spotted someone walking down the street, and had nothing else going on, so he jumped from his rooftop perch to see what this guy was up to.

Braden was humming to himself, strutting, and faintly daydreaming about coming across a beautiful girl and charming her pants off. His eyes were open but he wasn't even remotely looking at what was going on around him until there was suddenly another dude in front of him. A dude in caution tape. A dude in bright orange goggles. A dude with.. Wait, were those wings on his butt? It took him longer than it should have, but eventually Braden's slack-jawed gaping turned into nervous glancing around with a belayed but equally startled squeak.

"Oh man, I'm so sorry. Is there a fight or something near-by? I'm totally in the way, right? I should get going."

As though his panic and speech ruled his body, he was already turning when the rest of his brain kicked in. There was no sign of any kind of monster or a fight. Stopping mid-step he looked at the costumed whatever he was, and gave a crooked smile. "Did I walk into the middle of a closed set or something?"

Far from a beautiful girl with pants to charm off, Chaonis arched his eyebrow at Bradon once the dude finally noticed he wasn't alone. it settled that this was a strange event, it seemed, and Chaonis noted the nervous way Braden glanced around. Good, at least now he was paying attention.

"Closed set?"

Chaonis grunted. As if a costume designer could come up with something as awesome as what Chaonis had one. Danger was a cool sphere, he felt, and came with awesome gear that most senshi would die to have. Or maybe that was his ego stroking itself again.

Whatever the case, he didn't like the implication that he was just some dressed up goon for some... movie. This was real life, wasn't it?

"No, no fight. No set. Just you walking along in the dark like an idiot. What are you doing out here?" he asked, though he had lied about one little thing. There was probably a monster nearby somewhere. There always were. But, at the moment, Chaonis was simply hassling a random civilian for the sake of it.

"Yeah," he answered as soon as the word 'idiot' was used. "I get that a lot." He didn't look upset about it, more like he was stating a fact. "I, ah, I work late at the Sovereign Heights and then go to the gym." Like that was all the answer the costumed dude needed. Whatever this guy was. He wasn't sure.

"You're not a knight are you? 'Cause the last one I saw- Oh man. He was all decked out with his shield and stuff and looked like he came right out of a fairy tale. I'm not sure how I felt about it." He was rambling now, either in nervousness or something else he didn't know.

It was not every day that Chaonis could insult a stranger and get away with it. Usually they either got angry, or got angry but tried to hide it under some other pretense. But they always had some sort of emotional response. This guy, though, just took it with a shrug.

He tilted his head.

"I imagine you do," he said, shaking his head. He spent enough time fighting monsters and bad guys, and had no use for the gym, so he couldn't really imagine staying this late at one. Guy had to have a death wish, though, knowing the reputation of the city and how dangerous it could be at night. And he was out regularly?

"Knight?" he echoed and grunted, shaking his head. He had seen them, but he wasn't much a fan. Not that he seemed like the kind of guy who would be a fan of anything at all. "******** no."

He did not, however, explain what he was. His instincts as a senshi told him to just let the guy go and watch him to make sure he didn't get into trouble. his instincts as a ruffian told him to be that trouble. He narrowed his dark, keen eyes at the guy, pondering his choices.

"You got any money on you?" Yes, that was a good way to spread good will toward senshi. Debate mugging everyone he came in contact with.

So the guy wasn't a knight and neither was he sure Braden was all that sane or telling the truth, apparently. Stuffing his hands into his pockets he kind of shuffled his feet as he thought about it. This could not be a bad guy in any sense, not the ones he'd heard about on the news at least. Common sense also dictated that if you were a bad guy you were not going to run about with gleaming white angel wings on your a**. The only thing that led him to was that he was now in the presence of another type of super being. One of those... What did they call them? One of those- "Are you one of those sailor scout girls then?" Because that couldn't have come out any better.

Looking up in surprise at the question about money Braden nodded his head in eager reply. If this guy was down on his luck while he was out fighting for justice or peace or anti-monsters or whatever then it was only Braden's job to make sure he got some money. It was the least he could do. It wasn't like there was a monster thing nearby to help him fight off like he had the last time. "I've only got like fifty bucks on me," he answered sincerely. "Are you hungry or thirsty, man? I can go with you somewhere and buy you stuff with my debit card." His father need never know he was spending the time with a magical boy. What he was doing with his money and card was none of that man's concern.

Chaonis stared at Braden for a very long time, silence settling in that beat of time following the civilian's attempt to identify the senshi for what he was. His dark eyes lingered on him, squinting, mouth drawn in a thin line of displeasure.

"Do I look like a girl to you?"

It was very clear that there was only one answer to this question that would probably not result in getting punched in the face by a grumpy Eternal senshi. He had already been considering hassling the guy, but now he had all but settled on it. No, this guy was dumb for walking around like a lunch buffet for any youma to find, and now he was going to learn a hard lesson in judging by appearances.

Chaonis was no knight, and only a 'good' senshi when he was fighting his war or for his own ideals. Which were few and simple. He did what he wanted, when he wanted, and that was all the justification he needed. He grinned wickedly.

"The cash will be just fine," he said, gaze unwavering, anger still lingering but now he shifted from grumpy teenager to intimidating mugger. It was Braden's own fault, really, for asking stupid questions. Clearly.
