XXXXXXXXMagic Affinity: There’s only a single reason Valencia is in the line of work she’s in, and it’s not because it’s a family tradition. Her magical affinity is metal bending, she only needs to come in contact for her to manipulate the metal at will.
XXXXXXXXAppearance: Blacksmithing has built a sturdy, hard body that while is a healthy thin is also defined by muscle. Valencia has a bronze skin tone that has a sheen to it from the sweat, and in some areas her skin is black from metal bending and working around the forge. Her hair is jet black ending to her shoulder blades, it’s choppy with some bangs as if she cuts her own hair; she keeps it in a simple ponytail. Her eyes are a strange forest green, changing between dark and light green. She is a normal height of 5’8”, and has no care for anything beautiful. Her clothing are old and have seen better days, she’s usually in a short top that ends just below her chest because of the heat from the forge. Her pants are black, left extremely loose that end to her knees to allow a small wind flow, and her sandals are just as old but holding up.
XXXXXXXXPersonality:
Short-tempered, hot-headed – It's usually not very difficult to fire Valencia's temper, but when it happens, she can be dangerous as she has no problem getting physical with someone. She can get angry over the slightest of things and usually can't take light hearted jokes towards her; she takes everything very serious and will sit there and think about something that has annoyed her for longer than needed making herself even angrier. If the provocation is something more, like someone pushing her buttons on purpose, Valencia will lash out. She has a short temper and even shorter patience.
Loyal -- Valencia is very loyal. Sure, she might loathe some of her siblings and parents, but if they're truly in danger she'll do whatever she can to protect them. This goes for any friends and family, however, they must earn her trust enough for her to be loyal to them. Sort of an eye for an eye thing, they must be loyal to her in order for her to be loyal to them. She takes great offence to backstabbing, and don’t think that you can be her friend after doing such a thing, no amount of sucking up will work on her. This is why she makes a great friend if you can avoid the temper, your secrets are safe and you will have a friend that will always help you when you're in need.
Stubborn -- Like the saying goes, Valencia is as stubborn as a bull. When she makes up her mind, her mind is made - and no one is ever going to change that, well except for her of course. She simply refuses to change her mind about an idea or an action that she is about to take, she also refuses to give a clear explanation or reason for her resistance. If someone pushes her to so something she doesn't want or argues with her for too long, she tends to explode on the person and walk away. The few who have been successful in changing her mind, are those who have gone into lengthy explanations of their opinion or idea because she ends up losing track of everything that's been said.
Courageous – There isn't much that scares Valencia away, she is able to face uncertainty or suffering without being overcome by fear. She acts regardless of the feelings or potential consequences; she lets her intuition rule when the facts are against it. The forge has made her hardy, and she’s willing to go beyond her safety barrier and face what scares her the most. Valencia believes her fighting skills will keep her alive any day, which make her bold when approaching a danger.
Blunt – There is no sugar coating anything ever when Valencia says something, so if you're looking for comfort, go elsewhere. Most of the things she says are mean, she’s not trying to be mean on purpose, she just wants you to get the facts straight. It does make her a very honest person, she sees no value in lying to someone or being deceitful because it’s probably going to come and bite her later on. She doesn’t want to give anyone false hope, it might get someone killed. She also likes to denounce others when they’re lying to someone else, and if she’s not sure she’ll ask around to get the right information.
XXXXXXXXHistory:
- Born as the third member of a merchant family, and first daughter to be born. She has two younger siblings born a year after her. Her two eldest siblings are Marcus as the first born and Jeremiah as the second. Her younger siblings are Dmitri and Jasmine.
- She was raised like every other child of the household, was taught the same and went to school too.
- Young, Valencia had a mind to explore. She often would follow her brothers around, hiding so she wouldn't be caught and often spying on them. At the age of ten, she was caught spying on her brothers while they were training to fight. They decided to hand her a wooden sword and teach her instead of sending her to school, their mother found out and outraged sent her back to class. Her mother kept a close eye from that point on, making sure Valencia got her education and wasn't skipping out on it. Valencia however, was as stubborn as a mule and continued to get away to be taught about using a blade.
- It would be a year later that Valencia would discover her magical affinity. The family was visiting a blacksmith to equip her elder siblings with new swords, the blacksmith was slowing them his techniques, explaining how he kept ice on hand so the water was cooler and helped make better blades.Valencia and her younger siblings dared each other to who could keep their hands the longest in the ice. She won of course; her hands were turning blue by the time she took them out. Accidently, and much to her mother’s horror at the time, Valencia picked up a heated blade that had just come out of the furnace and began bending the metal with great ease. She burnt herself for the first time, but it confirmed what her magical affinity was.
- Valencia’s parents weren't as thrilled as they should have been, her other siblings had no magical affinities, but here she was, their eldest daughter bending metal. It only took her parents a few days to decide that she could not stay with the family and would needed to stay at the academy to further her knowledge with her magic.
- Valencia did not have much choice in the matter; it did not please Valencia to leave her home and siblings, but she began learning things she thought necessary for the first time in her life.
- School was still a bore for Valencia; she didn't see the importance of it and got into more fights with people to keep herself busy than others did among themselves. So at the age of seventeen she quit, sending a letter to her parents telling them of her choice, she did not receive a reply but the money for school stopped coming in. The seers were less than pleased, so they gave Valencia an assessment. She was sent to the tree shortly before turning eighteen.
- Valencia finished her assessment, and quickly became a blacksmiths apprentice, she finished it when she was twenty-two, by then she had shed her childish girl body to develop a toned body and knew skills even her brothers couldn't content with. She barely saw her brothers and sister, and when she did it was for them to show off their riches and talk about their journeys.
- Cutting off all ties with her family was hard, but Valencia sent her family one last letter to tell them she was now working alongside Godrick the blacksmith and that she no longer needed their support. She never heard from her parents and began seeing her siblings much less unless they needed a new weapon.

XXXXXXXXName: Amalthea ( Greek Goddess )
XXXXXXXXMagic Affinity: Amalthea has the magic ability to purify items, places, and people of a plague, be this curse or disease or taint. Her ability works best when she can physically touch something. When she is dealing with objects or places, depending on what has to be done, she will feel around with her hands to find the source of the taint and create friction with her hands. For people, already open wounds are the best, she can get right into the wound, touching and feeling until everything is gone and the wound can be closed. Now what happens is that Amalthea takes the “wrong” out and into herself, this is usually seen by the pulsing black veins that will appear on her fingers. The more she takes in, the bigger the veins grow and the further along her finger, hand and arm they go. If these black veins were to ever reach her heart, Amalthea would die. The veins usually stay until she's recovered, this can take from a few seconds to a day or two depending on how big the taint was.
XXXXXXXXEssence/Animal: Water Lily / Unicorn
XXXXXXXXAppearance: Tekteked above, ignore coloring of items, this would probably her color pallet here. Her hair is long, puffy, white and curling at the ends and finishes just bellow her bosom. Her skin is quite pale, with her eyes being a dark pink. On top she has a corset, with a pair of leggings under with a belt that goes down across her hips. Knee high riding boots.

XXXXXXXXPersonality:
Personable – Amalthea gets along with most people in almost any environment. This stems from a general politeness mixed with her skill in reading people and interpreting what would be wise or unwise to say next. She often sees people as puzzles to solve, and she’s quite good at puzzles. Her pleasant nature comes naturally and serves her very well in making friends with people. If circumstances should require it, however, she can look just as personable to someone who has made her very angry, making it difficult for one to see if they've put her off. Still, he is actually rather difficult to substantively anger or annoy, making these circumstances rare.
Distrustful – There is only a single person Amalthea will ever trust fully and that is Valencia, everyone else is on her watch list, even friends. She does not believe people would not lie or turn their backs on each other for a bit of coin or something they need, people are also willing to do anything when their loved ones are in danger. This makes people unpredictable and unstable, there is no trusting anyone. She will question everything that someone says or does, always wondering if they have a second goal in mind. Amalthea will never show her distrust, but it’s always there hidden away behind good manners and politeness.
Meticulous – The unicorn is very detail oriented in her approach to things. She almost never forgets the names of those she has met with and spoken to both as a matter of principle and for more practical reasons. Her attention to detail extends to any number of other things such as keeping Valencia and her home clean and tending to wounds with care. While this is a very useful set of skills to have, it often makes it so that she is more reserved when approaching situations about which she lacks information. This also helps her be watchful of others, as Amalthea does tend towards mistrust with those she first meets.
Stubborn – Because Amalthea believes she knows so much, has learned greatly, and is constantly researching, she can be quite firm in her ideas and opinions. Often time she will go into a lengthy discussion or argument to persuade others that she is indeed right and there is simply no arguing with her. If the other person does not see her point of view, she will simply ignore them for a bit and switch to another subject quickly while still thinking the way she does.
Intelligent -- Amalthea is fairly intelligent in academics and etiquette, and decent in athletics, but when it comes to talking to someone she tends to speak beyond their level. This makes it extremely difficult to get her point across to those who are younger, but easy to get her point across to those older than her. She loves to learn about everything and anything, she is constantly reading a new book or ding research on things, and she also does puzzles on her free time. When Amalthea takes a decision it’s based on her gut feeling only because of her vast knowledge, it’s not often she is wrong, and when she is she can’t live it down. |

The Beautiful Water Lily
Nymphaeaceae is a family of flowering plants. Members of this family are commonly called water lilies and live in freshwater areas in temperate and tropical climates around the world. The family contains eight genera. There are about 70 species of water lilies around the world. The genus Nymphaea contains about 35 species across the Northern Hemisphere. The genus Victoria contains two species of giant water lilies and can be found in South America. Water lilies are rooted in soil in bodies of water, with leaves and flowers floating on the water surface. The leaves are round, with a radial notch in Nymphaea and Nuphar, but fully circular in Victoria. Water lilies are divided into two main categories: hardy and tropical. Hardy water lilies bloom only during the day, but tropical water lilies can bloom either during the day or at night, and are the only group to contain blue-flowered plants.
The Wise Old Unicorn
The unicorn is a legendary animal from European folklore that resembles a white horse with a large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead, and sometimes a goat's beard and cloven hooves. First mentioned by the ancient Greeks, it became the most important imaginary animal of the Middle Ages and Renaissance when it was commonly described as an extremely wild woodland creature, a symbol of purity and grace, which could only be captured by a virgin. In the encyclopedias its horn was said to have the power to render poisoned water potable and to heal sickness. Until the 19th century, belief in unicorns was widespread among historians, alchemists, writers, poets, naturalists, physicians, and theologians. |

STAFF CRITIQUEREADY OR NOT, HERE IT IS!

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXWhile I like the idea of Valencia’s way of bending, you’ve actually made it more complex than it needs to be.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXSomeone with a metal affinity would just need to be a physical contact with the metal in question. Almathea’s
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXmagic would need to be slightly tweaked as well. The use of blood as purification is the only problem here.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXPurification and healing is fine, but you would need to just take out the blood usage. Just tweak these and you’re
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXperfectly fine. The fact that her own blood/veins are tainted when she purifies something does work well for a
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXdrawback though and it is a unique feature to the character. (I did like the play on the Unicorn blood being healing,
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXit just doesn’t fit in the rules of this world’s magic
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX❧ APPEARANCE
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXNothing at the moment is technically “wrong” we would just like to know what 3 features you’d like in the design,
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXbe it just stage two or three or stage one, any at all aside from her being a unicorn made of water lilies.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXWhile we do like Valencia and her being a bit of a bull in a china –shop, we would like to see a little more with
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXAlmathea. At the moment she has stubbornness and being distrustful as flaws, but we can’t really see them as
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXa “fatal flaw” type of thing. This is a good start, we’d just like to see a little fleshing out, perhaps how she’d interact
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXwith people.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX❧ HISTORY
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXThe history is the only real problem we’ve found here. The biggest problem is her schooling after discovering her
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXmagics at a blacksmith’s. All magic users are taught at the academy, taught in all basic subjects and also in their
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXuse of magics. She wouldn’t have just been sent to apprentice with a blacksmith until she graduated, and even
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXthen it’d be her choice who and where to apprentice to best fit her own desires as a User. The other problem is that
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXis seems you’re making her “tough” because “girls can’t be tough” when really, in this world, men and women are
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXcomplete equals, gender roles or issues aren’t a thing here.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXThis would mean her mother’s views on not wanting her daughter to learn swordsmanship would be unusual. While
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXunusual to keep this view and her parents apparent distaste for her being a User when most parents would be thrilled,
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXit could still be interesting to play with. |
