Female
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual
Craft/Rank:
Apprentice Beastcrafter
History:
Although born at Benden Hold a mere 18 Turns back, for reasons unknown to her her father decided it was time to up and move into the Weyr itself when she was a little older then Six Turns. Perhaps, because they had lived near the fields' edge?
Perhaps he felt the chances of success were better in the Weyr. Perhaps he wanted his family to live in a safer place. Who knows? Mya was certainly too young to ask at the time and he never really spoke of why before ********* unable to work any further to a work-related injury about four Turns afterwards. It was from her mother long after after she learned that their family had been offered a place at the Weyr, despite their family's' (nonvocal) new-Weyr ideals. It seemed that worth can often out-weigh prejudices in the best/worst of times.
Nevertheless, she lived and worked at the Weyr to prove her worth, not only to her family and her Master, but to anyone and everyone around her. Injuries nor sickness did not stop her. There was only the living day to day, night to night. Honestly? It was silly to really worry about the far future. To her, there was only the here and now.
Standing for so long had become somewhat of a burden on her spirits, despite how much her beloved mother and father urged her to keep going. Mya had never expected to be Impressed at first try....but Six Turns was a long time. Potential....maybe that's all it was.
But it was a start....
Description:
Mya stands at about 5' 4", short sadly, but her vixen-like face and bold, blue/grey eyes seem to make her appear taller, along with the strong posture she walks about with.
Tanned from work, but not visibly muscled oddly enough (they are there though!), Mya wears her light brown hair short cropped in a boyish style so that it does not get into her eyes at the worst possible moment.
Personality:
Sturdy is probably one of the best ways to describe this young woman in one word. Unshaken in her beliefs, unmoved by those who attempt to sway her into their favored decisions, and an strength for those who have no reserves in times of grief or loss.
She cares not for who rides what or who is in charge. Blood matters not as well; as long as someone is capable of doing what they should then Mya will stand behind them one hundred percent. This causes arguments with those who believe they are constantly in the right, though she tries to avoid these pointless clashes of words as much as she can. If not able to, more often then not, she'll try to find someone more experienced then she to intervene. But that's usually if wits fail.
She also has a small dislike for those who lord over others due to something silly like "Birth by bloodright"....but maybe that's just because she's been a simple person all her life. There's also that hate for those who consider things "abnormal" to be below them. Which is why she's always tried to linger after Hatching with eggs still on the Sands. She knew full-well of the Atypicals and the boons they brought. But saying something about it had gotten her in trouble more then once. That makes ya wonder why she moved to Benden, doesn't it? Yet....there was no were else she would be found in life. Benden was her home, old-fashioned or not.
One of her great passions in life is the welfare of animals; flits, runners, donkeys....you name it and Mya will find some way to love it one way or another. She's not naive though; when an animal wants her to back off or go away, she'll go.
The same goes with humans. She won't stick around if you don't want her to but never doubt that, once you earn her friendship, she will stay your friend. Group-wise....she loves being with a crowd, but not too big. Too many people gather too close and she starts to feel closed in.
This young one is also one of the "patient" and "loving" types: Need that shoulder to cry on? Mya is right there with a hanky and a few warm words to ease the hurt. Feel like yelling out your frustrations? She's an ear to lend...just don't blow out her eardrums, please. Struggling to complete a chore? She's there with a warm smile on her face and a hand out to help. She's not a work shirker either and dislikes those who try and take the "easy way out". Try to do it and she'll lecture you about it.
As sturdy as she is, Mya is still human and humans carry phobias and fears. Pressure and stress of a difficult time, while she'll rarely burst into tears, can cause her to need a moment or so by herself. Thankfully, the worst thing she'll ever hit is something soft. Though a person can earn a sock to the jaw if they deserve it.
As said before, she's vocal about the Atypicals and has gotten in trouble about it before. But despite their attempts to bend her to their ideals, Mya has set her jaw and given them the cold shoulder. Once that girl believes what's right, she won't turn away from it.
