Mbezi was on the move. He managed to avoid most of the fighting. The lions were slow and stupid, and if he seemed disinterested in them they moved on quickly. So many of the hyenas seemed to be falling, but there were a few dead lions lying around in the grass as well. The stench of death reeked on the air, and Mbezi breathed it in. Perfect. There was no way he was going to alert his prey by smell until he was on top of him.

Tail twitching, a sickening grin appeared on his face. This was going to be the culmination of his long-desired revenge. He blamed him for his mother's disappearance, for the stupidity that had entered the pack's lands, and even for this war. How would he have known that this last moment of glory for the pack would be his downfall?

Teal eyes madded with bloodlust as he laid them on his enemy. His rival and most hated beast.

"Tukutu! Today you will die!" He cackled. Mbezi's sanity had finally cracked.

"Masuko! Masuko!"

Damn that daughter of his. She had wanted to prove herself as a good Alpha, and ran into the battlefield. Tukutu could not find her, and he dreaded the thought that she might die within this mess. She was not trained well enough, and the lions were too strong for one adolescent hyena.

"Masuko!"

Fear was beginning to overtake him, until he heard his name over the yelps and death cries of other hyenas.

Mbezi.

Tukutu swiveled around to face the son of Mafa. The one hyena that he had loved, and who he had failed. He never knew what happened to her, and had accepted that he never would. Mbezi blamed him, but the younger male didn't know that Tukutu blamed himself as well. He tried to do right by giving the pack another good, strong Alpha, but that would never be enough for Mbezi. He wanted his true Alpha back, and she was gone.

"Mbezi..." Tukutu's words were hushed, feeling sorrow as he saw the insanity finally claim Mbezi. He had done his best to teach Masuko that vengeance never worked. It had driven Mbezi over the edge, and the male would never recover.

"Hahahaha! Are you really that surprised?" Mbezi circled the old hyena. "I've never forgotten what you did to me. You have always been destined to pay for it. I have been patient for all these years, and now my time has come!"

He continued to circle the old hyena, though Tukutu didn't seem to guard himself well. Had he finally given up? Was this battle going to be over that quickly?

"What? Not going to fight me, are you Tukutu?" Mbezi laughed again, his head filled with only bloodlust at the moment. "Well, I guess I can tell you my little secret."

He grinned, leaning close to him. "I plan on killing Masuko after you. Then the throne will have to come back to my bloodline."

Tukutu didn't want to fight. Hell, he knew that even being in this battlefield was like a death sentence. A lion could pick him off pretty easily, so it was even more disheartening to think that one of his own kind was going to kill him. Tukutu's tail twitched as his mind turned over the past....how much of it he regretted, and how much of it he cherished. He knew he was old, and he wondered if it would be better to go out like this. As long as Masuko thought he died fighting against a lion, and not against a hyena with a pathetic grudge.

"What?" Tukutu hissed. "Don't you dare, you b*****d child yourself!" And with that, Tukutu lunged at Mbezi.

He fell for it! Hah, Tukutu was an idiot. "Of course I will," he laughed as he dodged the first attack from Tukutu. He barely felt his paws touch the ground as he danced around his foe, feeling how close he was to his goal. One that had consumed him for as long as he could remember.

"Die!" He jumped on top of the old hyena, makes him crash down. Mbezi heard the yelp of pain, and laughed with pleasure as he clamped his jaws on the back of Tukutu's neck. He could feel himself drooling slightly from anticipation, feeling Tukutu try to shake him off.

He was going to die!

Tukutu yelped in pain when he felt Mbezi's teeth sink into the back of his neck. He tried to shake the younger hyena off, but he wasn't very successful. Crashing to his stomach, Tukutu felt blood running down his neck, pooling at the base of his throat before dripping onto the ground. He was dying.

He was dying, and all he could think of was saving Masuko. Tears filled his eyes as he tried once more to shake Mbezi off. He was successful, but he felt more pain as a chunk of flesh was ripped off of his neck.

"You....will not....kill her..." He felt himself getting lightheaded from the loss of blood, but he would not die without knowing that Mbezi would be unsuccessful at killing Masuko. He lunged again, this time grasping onto the side of Mbezi's neck.

Mbezi was furious that Tukutu hadn't died yet. This wasn't how it was supposed to go! He was not going to be shamed with failure again. Too many times had he failed, and hiding in the mists of war, he was not going to this time!

"Fool," Mbezi snarled, and yelled when he was bitten. He pushed back Tukutu almost effortlessly, feeling his own side of his neck bleed as he rushed towards the dying old hyena. "I will do this as painfully as I can manage," he declared. "As long as I can hold my impatience back!" He grabbed Tukutu's back leg, chomping down on it as hard as he could, shattering the leg.

Tukutu was suffering. More of it was in his worries of what was going to happen once he closed his eyes for the last time. The pain in his leg was nearly blinding, but he wasn't going to allow that to stop him. Using his other backleg, he pushed himself off, crashing into Mbezi and knocking the stupid young idiot off of his feet. Tukutu knew that someone else was going to have to finish off the b*****d, but Tukutu was going to make it easier for them.

He clawed and bit at every little part of Mbezi as he could. Small injuries, but the amount of blood that he would lose over time would slow him down. He was doing a fairly good job until Mbezi pushed Tukutu off, his paw resting comfortably on Tukutu's throat.

Mbezi was raging. He felt every scrape, and the pain was starting to cloud into his pleasure of revenge that filled his mind. He pinned the old idiot, his paw pressed on his throat.

"You are a fool. Pawing at me with little hope of succeeding in killing me. I will finish you off right now!"

And with that, Mbezi clamped his jaws down on the soft area of Tukutu's throat.

Masuko ran.

Her heart pounded hard as her paws tore up the ground, running between fights. She saw hyenas injured, a few dead. There was no time to stop, though. Someone had said that her father was in trouble. Not knowing the source of that trouble, Masuko fled from the safety of the back lines to help her father. She knew that she had been kept 'safe', partially because of her age, and because she was the next Alpha. If the lions were able to kill her, it may be the end of the Mava'Bunda.

Her heart raced as she tried to find him. Everything was a blur as she ran past the battles, trying to ignore the screams of pain and the cries of victory. She only wanted to bring everyone home alive.

Finally, her bright violet eyes caught sight of his pelt. He was down, and someone was helping him?

"No!"

It was Mbezi! With a strangled cry of anguish, the young heiress rammed her body into Mbezi, forcing him to awkwardly let go of his grip of her father. Tukutu shifted in an uncomfortably way, but Masuko knew that the only way to make sure Mbezi left her father alone was to kill him. She attacked.

"Masu...ko...." Everything was hazy, but Tukutu heard his daughter come. The one thing that he didn't want to have happen.

Hopefully the young, inexperienced heiress could finish him off before he killed her.

Mbezi was flustered as he felt the form of another crash into him. He let go of Tukutu as he gasped, the wind knocked out of him. After recovering, he realized that it was Masuko. The fates were aligned.

"You were to die next! Wait your turn!"

He pushed himself to stand, but his legs crumbled beneath him. What?! He tried again, but before he was able to completely stand, the young female jumped on his back. "b***h!"

Masuko had landed on Mbezi's back. Sinking her claws into his hide, she chewed at him, wherever she could. She knew that all the injures littering him had to have been from her father, and she used that as a hint. Clinging on as best she could, she was going to have to do something more dramatic to finish him off, even as she felt him grow weaker beneath him.

Not sure if it would work, the hyena flexed her claws into his hide, and pulled back as far as she could, streaks of blood pouring from the side of his neck and down to his shoulder. Hearing him scream in pain, Masuko jumped off of him, her own hide littered with bits of her blood mixed with his.

Mbezi was feeling himself fade. Anger was not enough to keep him going anymore. He screamed as he felt his body burn, so much of it that he couldn't even register where the pain was coming from. He tried to attack Masuko, but his eyes were growing too dark. He couldn't see her well enough to counter her move.

"You b***h..." he said, panting as he felt his life sink into the ground. He was suffering, just as he had hoped to torture Tukutu with.

He heaved one last time, and exhaled for the last time.

Mbezi was dead.

Knowing that Mbezi was dead, Masuko rushed to her father's side. She wanted to say something to him, but while she had been fighting off Mbezi she knew it wasn't going to be good.

"Father?" Her bloody snout nudged at Tukutu's hide, but there was no movement. She bursted into tears as she tried again. "Father, please!" Her body, soaked in Mbezi's blood, and now gaining some of Tukutu's, leaned onto her father's body as she wept openly. She didn't care that she was wide open to attack. She didn't care that she herself was injured, if mildly. She didn't care that she was the heiress, and should be behind the lines, safe.

"Oh, Father..." She hadn't even been able to say goodbye.

Tukutu had died before Masuko could save him.
