Malodore had read Calder's magazine thoroughly, even the parts that didn't really apply to it. It felt that, in so doing, it had learned a great deal about ghouls. They enjoyed cosmetics and styling hair, though it wasn't sure how that applied to Riley, given that she had no hair to style or lips to put lipstick on. They appreciated fashion and good hygeine, which it supposed were good things. And they used a wide variety of confusing slang terms.

Well. It would have to work on that.

The magazine had been tucked carefully into one sleeve, along with the 'cheat sheet' of questions from Calder. Malodore strode through the gates of the demon dormitory, heading for Riley's room with complete determination. It would gather the required data, and it would do so in a circumspect and intelligent fashion.

It stopped in front of Riley's door and squared its shoulders before raising one hand and knocking. "Ah... what is up, my ghoulfriend!" it added, loudly but carefully.

It only took a few moments before Riley was at the door, possibly having hurried since Malodore's voice had been a touch louder than usual, and it worried her. When she opened the door, however, she ingested the words it had said, and stopped. And stared.

Then she slowly took a step forward, leaned her head out, and tilted it up to look at the ceiling. She was used to Malodore's words being quite literal, after all.. so she had to be sure something wasn't actually up above it.

Now assured, she reached out and took its hand, pulling it inside. Hello, darling. To what do I owe this unexpected pleasure? She snuck one final look around the hallway and at the ceiling before closing the door.

It opened its beak in a smile at the sight of her, and allowed itself to be tugged into the darkened front room. "I merely wanted to see you, mia cara, and talk with you. Some, ah, ghoul talk. You look lovely today," it added, even though it was completely dark and it couldn't actually see her. "What is your favorite color?"

It was pretty sure that had been the first question.

Normally, Riley would keep the lights off when Malodore visited. Perhaps it was her way of being romantic, but mainly it was just that she liked to be comfortable around Malodore, and the lights bothered her.

However, at the comment of how lovely she looked - when she knew it could not see her - coupled with the sudden question about her favorite color, there was a brief pause. Then, the lights flickered on, revealing Riley to be standing beside the switch, one tentacle resting on it, and one eyebrow raised quite high as she stared in confusion at Malodore.

The room was covered in purple. Was she putting on the light to wordlessly answer the question? Of course not, that would be snarky. And Riley would never be snarky to her Malodore.

I'm rather fond of purple. See? She answered in a completely non-sarcastic way. Honest.*

"Ah. Yes. Naturalmente. One need only look at you to see that..." Malodore ducked its head, flustered. What was the next question?! It dared not pull out the magazine or the paper now, but it just couldn't remember what had been on Calder's list...

The first thing that surfaced was a question from the magazine quiz. "Ah. How do you show your partner a good time?" it blurted out without thinking, relieved to have at least found something to say.

And then its brain caught up with its tongue, and it rather wished Riley would turn the light off again so it could hide under the couch in peace.

Riley couldn't help it. She wanted to help it, but she couldn't. Her eyes widened as a snicker escaped, and both of her hands flew to her non-existent mouth. Oh, now she felt bad for laughing, when it was clear that whatever Malodore was doing, it was trying really hard to find things out about her.

But.. but.. showing her partner a good time?! wat.

She tried to make it sound like she was sneezing, or clearing her throat, or doing anything other than laughing - and her face narrowed in some semblence of serious thought.

Uhm. Why don't we sit down for a moment? You seem to be very inquisitive today, so you might as well make yourself comfortable while you do so.

She would wait for the plague doctor to take her offer and sit, before turning out the light. This is a conversation she was definitely going to make sure they had in the dark.

All right. She plopped down on the other side of the couch, lifted her legs up, and planted them carefully on Malodore's legs. So. You want to know what I do to show my partner, ah, I suppose that's you, isn't it - a good time? Well, it's important to find out what they enjoy, and then try to do something along that vein - was this what it was trying to do? Find out things about her, that she enjoyed?

She tried so hard to infiltrate the desires of others, that it was a weird feeling when someone (unsubtly) tried to do the same to her.

So.. She lengthened the sound of the word. If I wanted to show you a good time, I would probably find a good book to share with you in a rousing session of reading and cuddles -

Her eyes perked up as another thought occurred to her, stopping her sentence in her tracks. Perhaps this was not about her. Perhaps it was trying to hint that it was not having a good time with her?! Was that it?!

She leaned in, all pretense gone in place of real seriousness. Malodore, are you unhappy with me? Am I not living up to your standards? If there is something I am missing, believe me - all you need do is ask, and I can perform.

Malodore's eyes widened behind its lenses, and it sank down to sit on the couch next to her. "Ah - no! No, no, no... no... I am happy, yes, very much so... I merely wish to engage in light hearted and pleasant conversation with you! It is good for boilf- ghoulf- beings in a relationship to speak with each other. Bonding. Yes? So I ask you things! Such as..." Merde... "... ah. Yes. What is your favorite flower?"

It folded its hands neatly in its lap. "There, see? And now you answer, and then you ask me one, and then I answer, and it just keeps going. Back and forth. Like that."

Riley slumped back against the couch, sighing in obvious relief. Okay. Good. I thought - well, good. As long as you're happy.

The conversation returned to being amusing, but at least now it made more sense. All right. I'd love to bond. Though, these questions.. she was a little worried as to where they were coming from. Nonetheless. I don't have a favorite flower, because the only flowers I've ever experienced are those which you've given me. Which. In that case, I change my mind. I do have a favorite flower. The first flowers you ever gave me, because they were the first flowers I ever received. Dead roses. That was both a fond, and bittersweet memory - but the flowers themselves held nothing but happy thoughts.

My turn. Her voice turned mischievous. What is your very favorite thing to do ?

Malodore filed away that answer, pleased, then stopped. Ah. Yes. Now it had to answer. "Ah... hm. I think, perhaps... experiment. Si, si... a proper experiment, in a laboratory, tools lined up gleaming, helpers at my command, the patient stretched out before me." It started talking a little faster and its gaze lost focus. "I pick up the scalpel and-"

...

"Ah." It clapped its beak shut. "Si. Yes, that would be nice... ah... what makes you excited in bed?" It figured it was best to throw in a question from the magazine, just to throw her off track. Not that she'd seen Calder's list to start with.

Um.

Though what in Halloween could one do in bed that was truly exciting? Emergency surgery on a patient that couldn't be moved, perhaps?
PostPosted: Thu Sep 08, 2011 5:06 pm

Riley tilted her head back to rest it on the armrest, listening contentedly as Malodore got all excited about experimenting. She felt warm and cozy, and completely unaware of the turn the conversation was about to take.

Until it took it.

Her nails dug into the couch and she almost bolted upright, eyes glowing bright in the darkness as they widened as big as saucers.

MALODORE! She yelped, sounding like it had just tugged on a tentacle. What - what are you - why are you - when did you - I thought you didn't - are you saying you want to - no, NO that can't be - what is even-

Eloquent.

Also completely broken.

And finally, she settled on the most prevalent answer of them all.

-B-b-but the MOLD!

Why did it suddenly get so hot in her living room?!

Malodore stared, completely and utterly confused. "The... the mold? You... you like mold?" was all it could think to say in response.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 08, 2011 8:00 pm

NO! WHAT? She was ever so glad she had turned the lights off, because she was blushing so hard, there was actually a tint of red to those purple cheeks for the first time ever. I don't like mold, I just - Malodore, I didn't think you, uhm.. did.. things. In bed. I was - was I.. wrong? I mean, er, is that what you're.. is that what this is all about?

How awkward. If she'd known, she wouldn't have flipped out quite so ha- who was she kidding, she would have flipped out just as hard.

"I... you know what I do in bed? You've been there?" There was deep confusion in the plague doctor's voice. This was getting worse and worse. "Oh, I should never have read that magazine..."
PostPosted: Thu Sep 08, 2011 8:05 pm

Riley slapped her forehead with her hand. This was getting out of control.

I know what to do with a mindflayer in bed. That information is publically stored. I don't.. I mean.. plague doctors aren't.. I don't know if there's anywhere for.. oh for Jack's sake. She reached up and pulled a pillow off the cushion, and slammed it on her already heated face.

This did not muffle her speech at all, of course. What magazine?

Malodore... kind of wanted to know what one did with a mindflayer in bed, but it didn't think now was a good time. "I, ah... er." Sheepishly, it produced the magazine, though it kept Calder's list safely tucked away in its sleeve. "A quiz on what you know about your boilfriend or ghoulfriend, ah... it was in the common room, and I thought perhaps..."

It ducked its head. It had gotten most of Calder's questions answered, at least. "What kind of place do you like to travel? Or would you like to travel? Or just to be?" it said, trying to eke out that last bit of vital information.
