The thing about gardens is that sometimes, a person's garden doesn't always seem private. With room so lacking in the city proper, garden space was small and often they would just kind of...be open to the wandering person. Generally City People knew how rude it was to just touch someone's garden. But Ashel, three years in, gardens were just his thing. He would casually reach in, pull a few weeds, or pick a few flowers. Sometimes he would noticed a garden with a particular flower and just become enamored with it, carelessly taking it to admire in his walks through the city.

So as Ashel walked in a winding back road of Sutfirth, he didn't think to much on just what he was doing as he cut the stalk of the sunflower- ready to take it home, seeds and all. He figured he was doing good in a way, soon the flower would die and the seeds might go to waste. He would plant them, grow them, harvest them, sell them, and soon, more sunflowers would fill the city, or be used to feed it's many inhabitants.

Oblivious to the fact the flowers might have any significance, he cut the first down, smiling.

Tiberius' home in Sutfirth was a cozy little thing even from the outside. The stone of the building was aged and colored with time. The wood had a smokey feel from years and years of smoke and ash. In the front there wasn't much of a yard at all, just a few steps that led up to the door. Even the backyard wasn't that big. It was dominated by three sunflowers.

He had planted them years ago. They were from seeds he had found in his pocket when he left the Forest. Each year, he'd replant them and watch them grow tall. The farthest on the left was Marian. The center was Bethany and the one on the right was Elissa. They were beauties, his three suns, and since the beginning they had been here in his yard. Nios often joked, calling them Tiberius' "lady loves". It was true he spent a lot of time caring for the sunflowers. After all, autumn was in the air and that meant it would be time to gather next year's seeds again.

Watering can in hand, he walked opened the door. Only to find a man in his yard already. One hand held a knife, the other held a sunflower. Tiberius whipped his head around to look at his flowers. Bethany was missing, her stalk sliced clean.

"You little brat!" He screamed, watering can pointed menacingly at the man.

Ashel stopped dead in his tracks. What- Brat? He didn't think he was a brat. He tried not to be anyway. Granted he often annoyed some people, but he wasn't trying to. "Pardon?" Holding up the stalk of the vibrant yellow flower, Ashel wasn't quite sure why the other man, the book child at that, was so upset.

A city person from down the alley looked at Ashel standing awkwardly, sunflower in hand. They muttered something about foolish book children, but Ashel couldn't see the letter from so far. Still later he'd reflect on how it was foolish to cut down a flower that really was so large and from how well tended, was obviously cared for. But as he stood there, Ashel only thought he was helping, not hurting.

As it dawned on him he'd offended the other Book child, the flower was dropped like it was on fire, knocking into the two, jostling few petals. "Um, oh gosh. Um.." Shuffling foot to foot he smiled as best he could. "Is something wrong?" He'd only been trying to help after all.

The poor was fidgeting under his gaze, of this, Tiberius was sure. Let him wither. Let him burn. Tiberius' grip on the watering can tightened. From the alley, he saw a small line of text rise. It was too far away to read, but it was obvious what the city people were talking about. Everyone who lived near here knew that Tiberius loved his sunflowers. To cut one was certainly the best and most effective way to invoke the bookchild's wrath.

And as if things weren't already bad enough, the sunflower fell from the bookchild's hand. Jostled, a few vibrant petals fell from Bethany's head. They were a bright yellow against the grass. Tiberius breathed deeply, trying to reason through his anger.

He hadn't seen the boy before. He must be new. Newly awakened. Don't get angry. He's practically an infant. Really. No need to get mad. Control your temper. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale --

"Is something wrong?"

The watercan flew out of Tiberius' hand faster than he could breathe.

WHACK! The sound of metal on skull could be heard as Ashel stumbled back before finally falling onto his a**. Clutching his head, Ashel whimpered as all he could feel was pain, and a slight dampness in his shirt where the water hand fallen from the can. Which clattered next to him. City people looked on, a bit shocked at the violence, but made no moves to help Ashel. He’d only brought it on himself. “I’m Sorry. I’m sorry. I’msorryI’msorryI’msorry.” The book child kept chanting, hoping no more watering can beatings were going to be administered.

Looking at the other book child and seeing his anger, he shuffled away. Mumbling to him. “I was only trying to help. I’m sorry, I’ll fix it just please mo more watering cans.” A shallow cut and a light purple bump could he seen right in the middle of his forehead.

Tiberius was angry, that much was for certain. But for some reason, he felt a sting of pity followed quickly by a stab of guilt.

Things would be so much easier if the boy had reacted in anger or something. But this sorry whimpering... The bookchild's reaction reminded Tiberius of a wounded puppy for some reason. He couldn't help but feel as if he had done something completely unforgivable. The longer Tiberius stared at the boy, the more guilt he felt.

Sighing, he brought a hand to his neck.

"Look, I'm sorry about throwing the watering can at you. But in the future, don't cut down other people's flowers."

Looking with shocked eyes at the other book child, Ashel wasn't sure what to do in that moment. It was obvious he wasn't really forgiven so much as they had a misunderstanding. Or rather, Ashel hadn't really been thinking when he'd cut the flowers in the first place. "Ah yes, of course." Looking at where the stalks had once stood, Ashel felt his own pangs of guilt.

"I can replant them if you like." Realizing how stupid he must have sounded- "Er that is, harvest the seeds, and plant those. That..kind...of replant."
