This is a thread set-up for those that are either too young to be fighting in the meta, or a few adults that are in charge of making sure that no more young go missing after Hima was cubnapped. A few of the juveniles were given orders to keep an eye on the youngest ones, so there is certainly a hierarchy here. This is an open rp where anyone can post, but it is aimed more for those that are too young to participate, but can certainly be affected by the war that is going on.

Being in charge of the younger cubs was something Mheetu neither enjoyed nor desired. But here he was, after being given the task of keeping all the little ones safe and contained. In all honesty, he was a little overwhelmed by the sense of responsibility that now weighted heavily upon him and kept counting the cubs with something akin to obsession, fearing one might disappear if he were to blink for too long.
He looked around for the sister of Hima, the missing cub everyone was talking about but he couldn’t remember the little brown girl’s name and decided not to approach her. One cubnapped cub and one dead lion. An adolescent like Akairo, the red lion who was like a big brother to him and his siblings, one who was training to become a scout and would likely join the fight to come. Mheetu’s mouth was tightly shut as he felt a shiver run down his spine. In a way, he was a little happy that he could help out in these troubling times.

Maral sat some distance from his brother Mheetu and watched as his green-eyed sibling scanned the cubs they had been left with. Like Mheetu, Maral had been placed in something like a position of authority, told that it was his responsibility to keep the younger cubs from getting out of hand or wandering off. In truth he wondered at the adults' choice with him since he usually went out of his way to be unobtrusive, but that also meant he rarely ended up doing anything which would get him into trouble. Compared to his brother Zikamil, who was always masterminding plots which could lead to trouble, perhaps Maral would seem like a more responsible choice.
Unlike Mheetu, Maral did not find himself counting cubs compulsively. Instead he did his best not to brood on the recent death. It might have been him, he supposed. He had volunteered to help, which had gotten him this assignment instead. A part of him had uncharacteristically hoped for a more heroic role to play in all this, but the recent death had been sobering. This wasn't like in the stories, where the lions were characters long-dead if they ever existed at all. These were real people that he knew and recognized.
To distract himself he stepped away from his self-appointed post by a wall and into the cubs and juveniles, but almost immediately realized it was a mistake. Not only could he not see what was going on, but he felt a bit trapped and claustrophobic. It was better to remain on the edges where he could see.

Chamba saw where the other cubs and juveniles were. She made her way there hesitantly, hoping that she wouldn't draw attention. After Hima got cubnapped, she had felt that everyone around her was blaming her for it. It was her fault, she reminded herself. No matter how hard she tried to convince herself other wise she could not make herself feel innocent. She was told to go play with other cubs her own age while the pride became busy, prepping for the war. She wished that there was something she could do to help, to make her feel important.
As she got closer to the other youths she decided to keep herself a safe distance from them. She wasn't ready to be social yet. If she talked to them now she would just say the wrong thing and make herself look like a fool. She didn't need that added to her plate right now. Hopefully it wouldn't be long before the pride forgets her mistake. She reminded herself the Jambazi, her brother, was going to go get Hima and safely bring her home. The pride would be so thrilled to have Hima back that they would forget about her mistake.

Unlike Mheetu, Zikamil had no qualms about approaching somebody he didn't know or whose name he had forgotten. The young lion had little talent for remembering names to begin with, and no sense of shame whatsoever. Erring on the side of caution was not Kam's strong suit. Unfortunately for Chamba, that seemed to mean that he was dead set on making her feel right at home.
Kam was late to the party, as always, and the sight of other youngsters already milling about warmed his heart. Ah, the wonders of social gatherings! That a war was coming was the last thing on his mind as he sauntered up toward the nearest living creature he could find - Chamba. She seemed vaguely familiar, as if a part of him was telling him that he ought to know who she was, but he hadn't the energy to spare figuring out why. After all, the air about them was tense with the news of the recent death, and if Kam was to cheer anybody up, he would have to work his hardest.
"Mornin'," he greeted the brown cub brightly, drawing to a stop beside her. "Good day to be out, isn't it? I'm Zikamil." He added with a broad grin. "S'nice to meet you."
As always, where there was a Kam, there was a Musabari not far away. The golden brother trudged his way reluctantly toward the gathering, lagging some ways behind Zikamil. It was hardly a rare sight to see Musabari looking somewhat pained while following behind his brother, but somehow, he was always right there behind Kam.
Unlike his darker brother, however, Musabari was not keen on approaching strangers without reason. Not even little strangers like Chamba. A frown crossed his brow as he glanced past the brown cub toward the more familiar faces in the crowd. There was no mistaking that he would much rather have spent his time with Mheetu and Maral, but smart though he was, Musabari seemed less than willing to make such decisions. Especially not when he was only here because of Kam.
Musabari came to a stop several steps from where Kam and Chamba stood, unwilling to butt into the conversation.

Chamba watched as the juvenile lion approached her. She watched carefully, hoping he would decide to go check out the other lions instead. When he approached she looked to the ground, not wanting to make eye contact. “Good- good morning Zikamil,” she said no louder than a whisper. “It-it is pretty nice. Da-days like this are best to go out pla-playing. Though I- I guess that wouldn't be so safe right now.”
She didn't want another incident like the one she just caused. One was bad enough, she didn't want the pride to hate her any more. She would make sure to stay where she was until she was told other wise. Jambazi was worried enough with Hima missing. If she went missing too, she didn't know how he would react, if he would even try to save her.
She looked up into Zikamil's eyes. As nervous as she was, she had to admit that he seemed pretty nice. She thought that everyone would be avoiding her, since the incident. “My- my name is Chamba,” she introduced herself, hoping that he wouldn't recognize her name.

“Mmm. Hummm. Ah… Maral…” Mheetu asked tentatively, looking a little anxious. “What’s Zikamil doing?” Talking to new girl apparently. Hopefully, he wasn’t making her uncomfortable because even though Mheetu felt it was his duty to protect her today, he just didn’t know what he could possibly say to Zikamil to get his point across. Maybe he could talk to Musabari instead…
“Do you think he’s bothering her?” Even if he was, Mheetu would have a world of trouble doing something about it. Out of all his siblings, Kamil was usually the one taking the lead and gathering followers in every little adventure or prank. Mheetu wouldn’t really know how to stand up to his brother if he had to do something right now. “She probably wants to be alone right now.”

Kam was... not a current events buff. Doubtless, he had some understanding of the current state of war that enveloped his home, but what understanding he had was vague, and he seemed fairly determined to keep it that way. As it was, he seemed cognizant enough of the recent kidnapping, though the parties involved remained fairly mysterious to him. If he recognized Chamba's name (and that was a sizable if) or connected it to any recent news, he didn't show it.
"Your name is pretty," he offered, in the hopes that a compliment would make her seem less nervous. For all he knew, he was making her uncomfortable. While that was the last thing he wanted, he also wasn't about to move away. Determined as he was to carry out a genuine conversation, failure simply wasn't an option.
Why it was that he had zeroed in on Chamba was anybody's guess, and perhaps Kam himself wasn't too sure. But what was done was done. "Oh, with the war, you mean? Don't worry about that." His grin was half cocky, half reassuring. "I got your back. Them hyenas always think twice before messing with me."
Hearing Mheetu's voice, Musabari's ears perked and he wandered over to join his two brothers. It felt strange, with all of them watching from afar as Kam interacted with the little lioness, but he could see where Mheetu's concerns were coming from.
"Uhm..." The golden cub frowned, observing carefully. Most certainly, Kam would never do anything to intentionally bother the little cub, but there were moments when he could go overboard without realizing it. "I guess he's just trying to help her feel more comfortable. Although... I don't think he recognizes her..."
It was almost embarrassing how little Kam understood of the pride's current situation, and some days, it made Musabari wish he could disown Kam.

Chamba smiled weakly at Zikamil. He was really kind, she decided. "Thank you. Be-before I came here I had never even seen a hyena so closely before." She shuddered at the thought of the hyena that took her sister. "D-do they normally come that close t-to the prideland borders?" She hoped what had happened to her sister wasn't the normal situation.
"Wo-would you like to play hide and seek?" she asked, after he told her he would keep her safe. She thought play here where they were safe was alright, as long as she didn't venture too far away. Since Hima left she hadn't had a real chance to play. She understood what the pride was going through, she just felt lonely.

Maral glanced over at Kam, just to make sure he wasn't doing something horrible. It didn't seem likely, but if Mheetu had felt the need to call his attention to it, Maral assumed their brother must have been doing something out of the ordinary. As opposed to simply talking to the new girl, whose name he thought was something like Chumma or Simba or something. It was a fine, simple name like his and most of his siblings' names were. Kam's name being an exception. What a mouthful that was!
Musa joined him and Mheetu before he could formulate a response and drew his attention to a part of Kam's conversation that hadn't registered with Maral before. The little lioness Kam was talking to had once had a sister, but her sister had been taken. That was what Musa was talking about. But was that what Mheetu was talking about? He wondered. And then he winced as he overheard Kam's assurances that he had the girl's back against hyenas.
"It's like watching a stampede near the edge of a ravine," he said. "Should someone stop him, maybe?"
But would it even be possible to do so without being so painfully obvious that Kam's oblivious nature would pale in comparison? It wasn't as if one of them could drag Kam away and explain to him how much of a moron he was being without giving Chandra some sort of idea what they were going to talk about. He didn't think she really wanted to be reminded of that.
Fortunately she seemed to be all right to change the topic on her own, and had even introduced a game that he and his brothers could get in on. That should prevent Kam from putting his foot in it any deeper.
"Actually, maybe we could join your game?" Maral asked, stepping away from Musa and Mheetu but including them in his question with a sweep of his tail. "Hide and Seek works better with more people to look for."

Mheetu chuckled happily at Maral’s comment, watching Zikamil with wide eyes. Honestly, did he even know how big hyenas were? As if any of them could actually protect the little cub from those weird beasts. Well... Kamil wasn’t probably being serious about the whole thing… but the cub might actually believe him! Which… considering her previous experience… might not be so bad…? If she felt safer… than it was good? At least… she looked happier… maybe.
Mheetu looked down for a few moments after successfully tying his brain in a pretty knot.
“Yes, good idea.” Ah, a distraction! From a hiding spot he could still keep an eye on the surrounding cubs and make sure Kamil wasn’t being a total pain. So far, the little girl seemed happy to talk to him so hopefully she wouldn't mind a few more of the brothers. “Hello, can we play too? I’m Mheetu, Zikamil’s brother.”

Kam had to pause and think. "Well, no..." he said, though he might not have sounded completely convincing. "I mean, just recently, is all. I never really seen too many of them before." Which meant that, at the very least, he was paying enough attention to his surroundings to notice the sudden influx of hyena movement. That, at least, might have reassured his brothers somewhat.
"Course, I would!" He answered with a grin. If there was anything Kam was good at, that was having a good time and never before had he turned down a game of any sort. If he could have his way, he never would either.
Turning at the sound of Maral's voice, Kam nodded. "Let's all play," he agreed. A party was a party, no matter how many attended, but he was convinced that more was always merrier. Turning back to Chamba, he added, "Those are all my brothers. He's Maral, and that one is Musabari." He pointed out each newly-introduced sibling.
Musabari, who had followed his two brothers to join in with the fray, reacted to his name by perking his ears and smiling his sweet, half-awkward little smile. "Hi," he said, by way of greeting, glad to have been given the opportunity to do so. The golden cub had always been a soft-spoken child, and no doubt would have found it difficult to talk over all three of his brothers.
"Yea, we'd love to play," he added, echoing Mheetu and Maral's words. "I mean, if that's okay with you. It's your idea." The last thing he wanted was for her to feel overwhelmed by the sudden arrival of three older lions. Kam might have made her feel more comfortable, but that didn't mean she might not snap out of that comfort upon seeing them and he would have felt awful if she did.

Chamba felt her ears go warm. She didn't expect others to join in on the game. It wasn't a bad thing. In fact Chamba felt a heavy weight unload off her. If others were joining in on a game she was playing it meant that they weren't mad at her. She offered them her biggest smile. “Of-ofcourse you're welcomed to p-play!” she said quickly, looking from one lion to the next. “Um.. would you like m-me to seek first? When ever my sister and I play I always hide.”
As she said the last line she felt herself freeze. She didn't mean to speak of Hima. It just came out. Now is not the time to get upset, she told herself as she looked at the ground. Her smile turned to a frown.

Maral smiled broadly and then stopped, worrying that maybe he had shown too many teeth and too much initiative. She seemed so nervous and shy, he didn't want to accidentally overwhelm her with a sudden inundation of Mzuza spawn. On the other hand, most of the other cubs in the area were behaving perfectly well and didn't seem to need much minding, and even a serious cub like Maral could get bored.
Before he could reply to her question about whether she ought to seek or not her face fell and she seemed to be unhappy in a way that gave lie to the smile she'd offered moments before. He guessed it was because of her missing sister, but he didn't know what to say to make her feel better, and so he hunched his shoulders miserably and looked around, specifically at Zikamil, and hoped that someone would say something to make things better.

Mheetu smiled, happy that everyone seemed to agree on what to play. He grinned as Zikamil cheerfully introduced the two remaining brothers before his gaze returned to Chamba.
“Don’t worry, she’ll be back soon…” he said quickly, though he honestly didn’t feel very confident about the return of the little missing cub. But he could hope! And he trusted the adults would be able to do something about it. “And then we’ll all play together!”
“So… who’s hiding?” he smiled awkwardly at the cub and then looked at each one of his brothers as if asking for their opinion.
