Matthew sighed and glanced around, he was once again standing guard at the south gate to Safe Zone 037. He had to check very COG vec' that came through, by ground or air. Savillian car's came through as well, they were hard to deal with sometimes but It was all In a days work. Thankfully, Matthew's shift was almost over, he and the other COG soldier across from him would have to switch with the North gate guards but on the way over, he always stopped by his parents tent to check on them. After that he would head to the training grounds to see how his brother was doing since he was still training to be a COG soldier. Matt' had been a soldier for 8 years and had seen his fare share of war, blood and lost. He's even seen some of his friends die on the battle field. All of those things still haunt him In his dreams but they were starting to disappear and he was getting more sleep. When his shift ended, he left with the other soldier and stopped by his parents tent, he stayed with them for a bit before heading over to the training grounds. He requested to see his brother and waited outside the training grounds.

One of the soldiers at the training grounds hurried over to a group of future COG soldiers, currently busy training. Kirin spoke to the soldier and nodded, letting him return to his duty while she handled the request. She would often spend her breaks working with those still in training, only because she didn't have much else to do, and though she was one of Matthew's teammates, she wasn't on Defense duty like he was very often. She lost her family and now considered all the civilians and everyone in COG as family as well, so why not help the future generation of soldiers? In any case, she pulled one of the training soldiers to the side. After a brief conversation, they headed to the entrance of the training grounds, walking up to Matthew with a nod. "Long time no see, eh?" Kirin joked, rolling her eyes while running a hand through her blonde hair. The other soldier beside her was Matt's brother, Nickolas. He took off his helmet and shook his head, his brown-ish hair with green highlights flying over the place before smiling up at his older brother with his odd green eyes (which matched his highlights). "Hey there, Matt. Off duty already?"

Matthew took his helmet off as well and brushed his brown hair out of his face, It had been a while since his hair was cut. He smiled at his younger brother and Kirin, but he never understoon why Nick had put green highlights In his hair. Strangely enough, he was fine with It and so were their parents. "Hey guys." He said with a nod. "Sort of, I'm switching shifts with the North gate guards. I just stopped by to see how your training was going. Kirin's not giving you a hard time Is she?"

Nick glanced to the side at Kirin, who punched him in the arm a moment later. He only yelped slightly and rubbed his arm but he couldn't help laughing at the same time. "Nah, we're good~" he laughed. Kirin rolled her eyes and smiled again, nodded back to Matt. "You're brother is learning fast, I'll tell you that much."

Matt chuckled. "Thats good, a fast learner will last longer on the battle field." He said with a smile. "At least, that's what my trainer always told me and the others I trained with. Anyway, I gotta go befor Tanner gets mad again." He slipped his helmet back on and ruffled Nick's hair before running off to the North gate, along the way he met up with Tanner who was a bit mad for having to wait on his friend but was fine after a few. Matt took the right side while TK look the left side of the gate. Both had their Lancer's out, locked and loaded. Matt glanced around the mountains and endless land scape around the Safe Zone, he suddenly began to wonder If this peacefull little place was going to last for a while, or If the Locust were going to attack like they always do.

Nick grunted as his hair was ruffled, but he put his helmet back on and followed Kirin back into the training grounds. Once Nick was back with those of his own age group, Kirin headed off to find Matt and Tanner again. She glanced over the landscape for a bit before sighing. "How long do you think it'll last?..." she asked softly, a soft depressing look shining deep in her eyes.

"Who knows... could last until tomorrow, a few weeks or even a year." Tanner said as he shifted his weight to his left leg.
"He's got a point. The locust could attack any m-" Matthew was cut off by a distant roar that made him jump a bit.
About a 100 yards from the North gate was a Corpser that popped out of the ground and went back In. A few moments later, Ravers came flying out, followed by Nemacyst((morders)). The battle alarm went off, COG's kicked Into gear. Most of them rushed to the North, South, East and West gates to protect them while the others helped the savillians onto King Ravens and other COG vec's to be sent to another Safe Zone or ground base.
With the COG soldiers rushing past them to set up a barrier around the Safe Zone, Matt had enough time to squeeze past them. He ran to the tent his parents were waiting at, he helped them to a King Raven and left to help other's when that one left safely. After the svillians were out of the Safe Zone, Matthew went to the training ground to find his brother but was knocked back when about five or six Nemacyst came crashing down, they exploded Into firey patchs. There was pieces of training gear everywhere and a few wounded COG soldier's, Matthew stood up and shook his head to clear It. He could barely see through the smoke that was coming off of the fire patchs. "Nickolas! Nick where are you!" He called, hoping his brother would reply.

Kirin hurried after Matthew and helped a few other civilians get to King Ravens before following him to the training grounds. She had to make sure the other trainees were okay. She managed to stay standing at the explosions yet stayed by Matt's side so she didn't lose him in the smoke. "Nickolas!"
Nickolas had taken cover with a few of the other trainees at the explosions. Once he checked on the others, he perked up as he heard his name. "Matt?! Rin?! We're in here! There's a few of us wounded, one or two are serious! We need to get them to safer grounds!" he called through the smoke.
Kirin listened to Nick's voice carefully and nodded to Matt. "I know where they are. This way, and stay close. Can't be losing you in the smoke," she ordered and led the way. She took a rather short route, easily finding the trainees in the smoke while avoiding the fire patches. There were indeed a few injuries, but two of the trainees were severely hit by the explosions, unable to get out of the way in time.

Matthew followed her, he was worried about Nickolas and the other trainees. Once he and Kirin found them, he helped carrie the wounded to one of the last ground vec'. "I think that's all of them." He said before sighing.
"Sargent Matthew, I need you, Kirin, Tanner and Nickolas to head to the old mining factory at mount' Haji. We have reason to believe there are locust there and they are turning the mountain Into a missle factory." Victory Haffmen said through their Inner coms. "I'm assining you four as Alpha squad from this day forth."

Once all the other trainees, both wounded and unharmed, were set for now, Nickolas couldn't help freezing up when he heard he was part of the Alpha Squad. "N-no way..." he said softly in total disbelief.
Kirin smirked a bit at Nickolas's shock, but she merely nodded a moment later. "Yes sir. Come on Alpha. Tanner was back at the entrance on a Lancer last time I checked. Let's grab him and head to Mtn. Haji."

Matthew smiled behind his helment, he patted Nick's back. "Don't worry bro, you'll get more trainning along the way." He said with a light chuckle before looking towards the north gate. "Tanner you still alive buddy?" He asked through the Inner com.
"Still kicking, we managed to fend them off. I heard what Haffman said too, I got a vec' here for us to head out." Tanner replied.
"Good, lets go Alpha." Matthew said as he jogged towards the gate.

Let's go Alpha. Those words rang in his head and Nickolas couldn't help grinning widely. He hurried after his brother with Kirin following behind him. Kirin grinned as well, knowing Nick was probably the happiest guy on Earth right now. Of course, there would be many dangers ahead, and she knew he was still in training technically. Matthew was right too, however, when he said Nick would continue getting training along the way. Besides, is there even a better way to get expierence other than first-hand expierence?

Once they were at the gate, Matthew looked around for Tanner. Thankfully, he was alright. Tanner was with two other gears that had a armored car, from the look of their gear, they were from one of the COG base's.
Matthew walked over to him. "Tanner, we gotta go. Got direct order's from Hoffmen."
"Direct order's from him? That's something new." TK said as he looked at his friend.
"Yeah I know." Matt chuckled.
The gears beside the armored car glanced at eachother before looking at the small group. "We can give you a ride If you want, this Is the last vec' for miles."

"That would be great," Kirin said with a small nod to the other gears. "We're heading to Mtn. Haji," she added. She had to make sure they were at least going in the right direction. If the gears were heading in the opposite direction, there was no point to getting a ride.
Nickolas followed Matthew over to Tanner while Kirin was with the vec and the other gears. He couldn't help grinning the whole time. "I just... can't believe I'm part of Alpha... D-do you think I'll be alright? I'm still not done my training..."
