Of all the places in the school, the gym pool was the place Merope liked the most. There wasn’t anyone hovering a bookshelf away spying on you, hissing at you to be quiet. Nor was there the self-conscious awkwardness that came from meeting up in a bedroom (not that Merope minded his hoard scattered about everywhere, but not everybody enjoyed sitting on a pile of metal. Even he was starting to get tired of it).
Though the pool did have the extra awkwardness of a bathing suit. Merope sat on the pool’s edge, tapping the dust bunny jar as he waited for Mot. Professor Savage asked them to study the creatures -- surely she wouldn’t mind if they did some experiments with them, right? Merope had a couple of small boats all ready to go for them, too!

When Mot had set up the day to meet with Merope to do homework, he never quite expected to meet at a pool. Sure, he loved water. It just seemed an odd place to get work done. Then again, he had no ide what exactly this homework was supposed to be about. Research the dust bunnies? So far all they did was make him sneeze. No so much fun. They could so go back to the human world as soon as possible. Regardless, perhaps it would prove to be an interesting day.
Mot stepped into the gym and took long strides toward the undead student, waving his free hand to greet him, the other being occupied by a jar of dust bunny. "Howdy, Merope~. Wait long?"

Merope reached up and waved to Mot as he appeared, shaking his head after he asked the question. “Nah, not too long.” He nodded towards the pool, adding, “I didn’t have anything planned for today and took a quick dip, but that was about it.” And by “dip” he meant “get into the pool and flail around for a bit to try and swim but not.”
The undead boil tapped the jar that was next to him, annoying the dust bunnies inside. “So,” he began, “Do you have any idea what we’re supposed to be doing? Professor Savage mentioned studying these, so I thought-” he broke off long enough to hold up a plain boat, adding, “We could study how well they react to boats and water, or at least study how one of them reacts to it. Or something. What do you think?”

"Not a clue." Mot answered with a smirk, tapping the jar of fluff against his leg. Merope's suggestions were considered with a light hum, tapping the jar some more. The fluffs within were simply irate by now.
"So what you're saying is..." Mot started, turning on his heel to look out toward the pool, "Experiemnt on them? Because I'll tell you right now I am all for that." Hey, maybe there was a way to make them less likely to cause him to sneeze his brains out! Oooo, now they were scientists! How exciting.
Perhaps the critter were buoyant as well. Ah, so much science to do, and so little time.

“Well why not?” Merope laughed, his glow brightening up as he gestured out to the pool with the boat. He was glad his partner for this assignment was fine with experimenting -- it certainly beat staring at the jar and writing notes down.
“I brought a couple boats,” the undead pointed out, “And we have water here. Aside from boating and water, I don’t know what else we could test.” Merope paused, an idea striking him, “Unless we want to see if it’s possible to race a dust bunny on a boat? Could be more entertaining...”

How was it Merope happened to have little boats for the dust bunnies already? Perhaps the undead was much more interested in this homework than he let on. Mot crouched down, looking over the boats curiously. "Racing, huh?" The cowboil smirked, tapping his jar again. "Okay! Let's do this. I mean.." He cleared his throat, attempting to keep his game face on. "This is purely serious business. To be recorded very seriously."
He set down his jar of bunnies. "Then again, you don't suppose testing their buoyancy in water would be cruel would you?" Mot still wanted vengeance for the sneezing the little devils had inflicted on him. "Never mind. Let's race."

Merope's secret was simple: the boats were left over from one of Professor Savage's more interesting classes. While they were a small model boats, Merope did not take the extra time to spiff them up and make them look more unique. That was something he would need to fix later, providing he could resist the urge to sink them.
"Of course! Boats are serious things," Merope laughed, handing a boat to Mot before grabbing one for himself. "Savage taught me that -- I didn't even know what a boat was until she had me wreck some of her model ships! Ahh, those were fun times."
He grabbed his jar and removed the lid, considering the reaper's question. "Well," he began, "They're dust bunnies made out of dust, right? And professor Savage did ask us to study them... she didn't say how!"
(( I figure we could "race" them by rolling either a 4 or 6 sided dice, and first one to 10 "wins"? XD ))

Oh that Savage. She certainly had a thing for boats, or wrecking them anyway. The fact Merope had an equal love of them certainly painted a picture of how the undead viewed the professor. Teacher's pet, maybe?
Merope agreeing to the bouncy testing had Mot grinning mischievously. It was good to have the undead on the same boat as him, as it were, in regard to the fate of the dust bunnies. "Fantastic. Let's get this started." He took the offered boat and set it down, opening his jar to snag one of the bunnies.
It did not go quietly, sensing master's disdain for it's mere existence. It squeaked noisily, sulking once it was put inside the boat. It's ears flopped down in defeat, looking up at it's former comrades looking for sympathy. However, they seemed to be making bets against him. Woe.
Mot set the boat down into the water and waited for Merope to do the same. "Okay... three, two, one. Go!" With that, he pushed the little boat forward. Time to see if Dust bunnies could race!
The dust bunny made a soft skreeeee of distress as it floated on out.

It was no secret that Savage was his favorite teacher. The fact that they were both aquatic creatures had something to do with it, along with how nostalgic her classroom made him for home. But, hey -- being a teacher's pet simply met they might be able to get away with doing this if they both missed the mark completely with the assignment, right?
Merope opened his own jar and fished a dust bunny out, squeezing it and nearly dropping it as he pulled it out of the jar. The creature gave an irritated hiss as it was set down in the boat, appendages tightening into a small ball as best as it could in order to avoid contact with either side of the vessel.
"You're on!" Merope laughed, giving his own boat a quick push.

"Come on, Dusty! Full speed ahead!" Mot cheered loudly, watching the agitated mini pet shiver inside its vessel. His tone was dripping with something that was nowhere near encouraging. The boat drifted further away toward the 'finish line'. Mot secretly hoped his boat sank and drowned the bunny on board, though he did nothing to help it along.
Evidently he had a vendetta against the dusty critters.

So far so good! Merope had a hard time sitting still on the edge of the pool. His fingers twitched; he wanted to sink a boat so very badly. It was such a delight to hear the sharp snap of wood that buckled under the pressure and feel the crunch of it between his palms. "Come onnn," he urged.
After a moment, Merope slyly looked towards Mot. "How well do you think these things can pilot the ships?" He mused, looking around. "I wonder how well they're good at dodging things thrown at them. While on a boat. You interested?"

Mot paused.
A grin slowly grew wider and wider.
"I like the way you think." In the distance, Dusty skree'd in opposition, as if it sensed doom. The reaper only took that as an A-OK with the plan. Not because he misunderstood. Not at all. He was just letting his inner jerk out for a bit. "What do we have for projectiles?"
Dusty's boat slammed into the other side of the pool.

Projectiles? Hm. Merope considered their options. "I have a couple more boats, but those won't move very far. I think I..." The undead boil trailed off, hands digging into the pockets of his shorts. "Yesss! I have some!" Triumphantly, he held up a few water balloons, minus the water. "I've been stocking up on these for my club that I've been working on," he explained, "One of us will need to go use the faucet in the boy's locker room to fill them up, though. Aside from those, I guess we have more dust bunnies?"
The dust bunny on his boat, oblivious to the danger, had inched its way over to the middle of the boat. It reached up and licked the sail, and was debating whether or not to try it when its ship careened into the side of the pool after Mot's boat. The creature shrieked, then running for the back of the boat.
...where its weight tipped the boat backwards. It managed to scurry to the middle of the boat again before it managed to capsize itself.
Merope stared at the boats, then lowered himself into the water. "I'll move them towards the middle of the pool," he volunteered, "That way they can't jump out over the side, okay?"

Water balloons? Oh this was going to be fun! Mot grinned devilishly, imagining the chaos he could drop on the dust bunnies. The remaining dust bunnies in his jar could feel the malicious intent wafting from their captor, and began flailing wildly in their container.
"Okay! I'll fill those balloons for you." Mot offered, taking a handful and making his way to the bathroom with a hop in his step. Chucking water balloons at animated allergens. What better way to spend an afternoon?
Mot returned soon after with an armful of wiggling, jiggling water balloons, his pace slow to avoid spilling them. He himself was fairly soaked, evidently having fought with a sentiment faucet intent on bullying him. "O-okay! I got the ammo ready."

Merope nodded as Mot took the water balloons, throwing him a quick salute. "Excellent! Alright, now to move the boats..." He slid into the water and waded towards the boats on the other side, reaching out and carefully hooking his fingers over the sides. It was hard to simply pull the boats towards him. It would be so easy to drag them under, to crush them between his hands while the dust bunnies... What would they do? Merope eyed the boats suspiciously, ignoring this hisses and glares that they sent his way. He wasn't sure what they would do, and to find out now would be rather unfair to his partner.
The curiosity was quashed as Merope moved the boats towards the center of the pool, moving the two apart so that neither bunny could leap from one ship to the other. He waved to Mot as he reappeared, moving back to the side of the pool. "Great! Here, let me take a few," Merope reached up, carefully taking two water balloons at a time to stack them in a row on the pool's side. It wouldn't do either of them any good if Merope accidentally popped one with his claws right now.
"Ready to fire?" Merope asked as he picked a water balloon up, turning his attention towards the boats. "Their ships are pretty thin and easy to break, so probably one or two balloons'll sink'em."
