So I have no idea why I picked up this book. Probably because I've been thinking about looking into glamor magic for the hell of it while i cant completely devote myself to my Kemetic studies because of school. I haven't started really reading yet(thank the gods for school whee ). But I was skimming through and it looked like a pick a goddess and go book.
But I was looking over the section on goddesses that she chose to list and instruct on how to work with them and what they'd be best at helping you with. Now I know nothing about Scathach but I doubt she was a punk rock warrior goddess. I don't think Huesuda is a gothic goddess either. But Freya is in there. And of course Aphrodite would be in there. But what gets me is why Mary's in there as a moon goddess. Guess I'll just have to read to find out.

I'm almost afraid to ask but, just what does she have to say about Freyja and Aphrodite?

I'm taking this straight from the book.
Freya: the air goddess Try when: -You seem to have lost your focus or direction -You are the new kid on the block (at school or work) -You are dealing with argumentative people -You want new ideas, inspiration, and assistance with decision making
Freya, the goddess of air, is the goddess of the east who rules the realm of intellect. She carries the sword of illumination. The sharp blade of her sword is symbolic of her intellectual ability to cut through ignorance and confusion. The air goddess bring mental healing, inspiration, and clarity. She encourages you to use your awareness wisely. Clear thinking is an important quality for any goddess girl.
The air goddess is in charge of new beginnings and spring-cleaning. She is the goddess of spring, dawn, and the new moon. Her cleansing winds can sweep through you to blow away outworn attitudes, rigid ideals, and old values and beliefs. She will help you let go of ways of thinking and blocked emotions that keep you stuck.
-more yadda yadda about the air goddess-
There are more stories of air goddesses in many different cultures. Freya is an air goddess from Norse mythology. She is also the goddess of rain and ferility, as the rain caused vegetation to grow. Freya wore a beautiful cloak that looked like a cloud, which acted as a barometer of her moods. When she was happy the cloud cloak would lighten in color, and when she was sad it would darken like a raincloud. When she was angry the cloud cloak became a thunderous storm cloud.
-whole more yadda yadda. Too much to type-
Aphrodite: the beauty goddess Try when: -You want to feel more beautiful -You feel insecure about the way you look -You want to promote self-love and confidence -You want to attract others with your beauty, your beautiful spirit, and your unique, beautiful looks
Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, and wisdom. She always has tons of guys falling all over her. She is radiantly beautiful and enchanting. When Cleopatra wanted to get Mark Antony to fall in love with her, she dressed up as Aphrodite and sailed into Antony's port in a golden ship with billowing purple sails. Cleopatra knew the power of using her imagination, spirituality, and physical props to invoke a goddess. She also knew the power of Aphrodite to attract love and beauty.
-more stuff set up like the other goddesses-

I've heard of her having a falcon feather cloak that allowed her to fly but never a mood ring cloud cloak.I would really like to know what the source for that story is. I've also never seen any association with rain. She's a goddess of sex, magic, and to an extent battle. About the only thing in here that looks right is that she's a fertility goddess. Also, any sword she carries is likely to be symbolic of nothing. It's a sword. When the Norse gods carry weapons they are for smiting things, not to clear up your confusion.

Yeah I figured it was totally off as I started typing it. I was thinking "Really? Really? Really? Nuhuh. Can't be." I don't even think I'm going to get through the whole book. I'm thinking I'm going to end up rage quitting on this book.

Gotta love it when folks cram deities into soft-poly aspects, categorizing them as something they never were to the cultures they originate from. confused

I looked on Amazon, it had like five five-star reviews. And one four-star. And that was it. I was horrified so I wrote a one-star review.
Everyone could do that and then no one would buy the book 4laugh

eek How could people think that's good? I mean you'd have to probably strip it all the way down to the bare bones before you have something reasonable to work with.
So going to give it a 1 star when I find it.

Yeah, she references "The Goddess" as (and this is a direct quote) Quote: "the divine feminine - the one whom ancient peoples worshiped as the mother of all." She's also talking about paleolithic times as if the things she's describing are known facts. They are not. We have hints and guesses from that time. That is all. So we're back to that load of rubbish. She also recommends Edain McCoy and Silver Ravenwolf for further reading. Bleach.
