Fall was coming.

It might still be a month or more away.. but smuldering 90 degree nights were slowly fading into the past, the temperature beginning to tank nowadays as the sun disappeared from the sky. On this particular night there was even a mild breeze, one that made the senshi of magnetism shiver as she stopped for a moment on a low rooftop. Not that she minded.. she liked the fall.

The soft small of oil and chemicals was subtle on the building, the cars parked nearby it as much of a sign of what the building was as the actual sign in the window. Leaning against a metal rod extending from the roof Polaris' eyes scanned the area slowly, looking for any sign of life. Not that she felt any youma in the area.

All the metal in the area.. the cars... the scrap.. the tools.. the equipment.. even the building. She felt strangely comfortable, strangely as ease, which was perhaps why she lingered so long. Strange how something like being a senshi could change your appreciation of silly things like that.

But seriously.. if she ever had to battle someone.. here wouldn't be a bad option. Well.. except for all the poor civilians that had all their stuff trashed.

Asclepius was on the next rooftop over, kneeling over the remains of a youma. It had not been a terribly difficult fight; what the girl was trying to do now was the harder part. Brush in one hand and glass jar in the other, she tried to sweep the crumbled dust the monster had left behind into the container. A moment later, though, the remains faded off back to where ever youma went after senshi killed them.

Including the stuff she had already gotten into the jar.

With a heavy sigh, the girl stood up straight and rubbed one eye with one finger, and scowled into the now-empty jar. How else was she supposed to get some sort of sample from a youma for her studies? Take one alive? Back to Pollux's hideout? That sounded rather like a bad idea, especially if it was somehow able to escape. Asclepius was not sure all the youma were smart enough to report on locations, but it was a risk she could not take.

Defeated for the moment in her scientific endeavors, she abruptly sensed another senshi nearby. On the roof of her father's garage, it felt like, just next door. Someone stronger, as well. Might as well introduce herself.

After fetching her backpack and stuffing the brush and jar back inside, the girl watched to the edge of the roof and waved with her free hand.

"Hello there," Asclepius called out.

In her little daydream about epic battles in places that really gave her the upper hand, like that one time in a kitchen oh yes that had been amazing, Polaris was oblivious to the task of concentration and care going on on the next rooftop over. It wasn't in fact until a voice interrupted her that she suddenly noticed she had company, offering an immediate friendly smile even as she attempted to gather her thoughts.

"Oh, hello. Sailor Polaris, senshi of magnetism" She introduced herself politely, her hand lifting as well in a soft wave. The other girl was lovely, obviously a senshi though her outfit was actually.. quite unique all things considered. It was beautiful, and Polaris wished she had one as covering and elegant. Her moment paused a moment on the backpack hitched on her shoulder. Not part of the costume... was it?

"Are you out patrolling tonight?" And with barely a pause in between. "Would you like some company?" Polaris loved to team up. With anyone and everyone. Make new friends, keep the old and all that girl scouts stuff.

"Asclepius, senshi of Medicine," she replied, then glanced back over her shoulder at where the youma had fallen before, and shrugged. "Yeah, you could say I'm out patrolling. Looking for youma." She considered a moment, and shrugged again. "And sure, I guess I could use some company."

Holding one of the backpack straps at her shoulder to keep it secure, she hopped over to join Polaris on her rooftop, then threaded her other arm through the bag's other strap. She could use someone to talk to, perhaps a pair of outside eyes on her problem that could offer another fresh point of view. Asclepius was not precisely sure Chaonis would have been the best pair of eyes for the job, and, well, she would have had to call him and wait for him to decide to show up anyway.

She was somewhat reluctant to open up to strangers, but at least she would be talking about her research. Varied experience and all that could only help.

"Do you know if there's any way to keep the dust that youma leave behind around? It all seems to disappear, but I need to keep some."

Oh Medicine. It was an interesting power source, and Polaris could hazard a few guesses at what kinds of power she would have. Really sometimes when she heard of powers.. like Madness or Fortitude.. she really had to scratch her head.

Companionship accepted Polaris wanted a moment to see if she'd suggest a direction for them to go, but was instead greeted with a strange question.

"Leave the dust behind..?" She wanted to keep some? Well that was a little weird, not a request she'd ever heard before. Nonetheless a question was a question. Pausing a moment she racked her brain trying to remember any signifigant information over the years.

Finally her head shook, an apologetic smile on her face. "I... I've never seen it stay. Even if you cut off a part of the youma from the main body.. the part immediately turns to dust and fades."

"I even lost a set of keys to.. where ever it is that stuff goes." Not to mention a lot of random metal trash. "It seems like anything impaled in the creature goes with it too when it dusts."

She was entirely unhelpful.. which was quite frusterating for the senshi who prided herself on being in the know and helping others. Curiousity got the better of her though. "Why do you want the dust anyway?"

Asclepius nodded at Polaris' response, glancing back to the spot where the youma she had killed had been before it had faded. And winced at the thought of losing keys like that.

"Ah, thanks, I'll keep that in mind," she replied with raised eyebrows. Then she looked to Polaris again. After a moment's consideration, the Senshi of Medicine answered her question: "I'm trying to see if there's some way to make a medicine that will purge the corruption from people. Maybe from youma, too." Asclepius walked in a small circle around the scuff-marks on the roof where the youma had died. "I figured they would be a good place to start."

Then she scrubbed one toe across the roof grit and sighed, crossing her arms. "They just don't like to stick around long enough to study, you know?"

She waited patiently, curiously, as the other girl seemed to debate whether or not to offer her an answer. In the end though, she did and Polaris thought about the words for a long moment. It was an interesting idea, one she never would have thought of, one that even now twisted around in her head. Was it possible? Even if they got a sample of the creatures what would the girl do to figure out what she wanted to know? Polaris was obviously no scientist herself.

She was silent for a long time, thinking, one finger tapping her cheek. When she finally spoke it wasn't words of discouragement, in fact it was quite the opposite.

"Yeah.. it seems the best way would be to catch one alive.. but considering the fact that detached apendages fade away.. I don't know that you'd even be able to get a sample that you could take away and test on."

"Maybe... maybe a sample from an actual person? A Lt or a corrupted senshi?"

"Do you think you'd be able to work from something like that?"

Polaris wasn't adverse to trying to assist in such an endevour even though.. obviously the other girl hadn't even ASKED for her help yet. But still! Polaris was never above sticking her nose into everything and making it her business too!

"An actual person?" Asclepius replied, clearly more than a little surprised at the idea. "You mean like blood or something instead, right? They're not made of dust, too, and I just don't know it yet?" Of course she had never killed a person, never seen one of the Negaverse killed. And rather did not want to, either, if she could avoid it.

She tossed her head slightly to get some hair out of her face, and thought about it a moment longer. "I guess blood would be ultimately useful, too, but I guess my logic was that I could try getting some of the dust from a youma first, so that I might have a better idea what to look for in the blood of the Negaverse."

Asclepius crossed her arms and shrugged a little, then, scowling in thought at the horizon. "I guess anything I could get to sample would be worth a look, although it sort of seems like the Negaverse is sick in their spirits, doesn't it?" Hazel eyes glanced back to Polaris to see if she agreed. "Like it runs in their souls, not their veins."

And then she laughed a little, shaking her head. "I'll work from whatever I can find, I guess, but I am definitely open to suggestions." A faint smile crossed her lips. "Seriously, any help at all is welcome, since I feel sort of like I'm ... inventing a whole new field of science. But I can't just not try, you know?"

Her shoulder's shrank a little at the response. Not because Asclepius was at all rude in her answer, no! But simply because the answer was indeed.. quite logical and probable. Which also happened to make her wrong and leave them with no better answer then they'd started with. A finger lifted to her lip to tap it thoughtfully. "Actually... you're probably right."

Souls.. some might argue about whether they existed or whatnot, but for someone who believed so strongly in morals and righteousness as Polaris it made perfect sense. "It probably is much more connected to the soul and heart then something physically in their blood."

But then... her mind shifted towards the couple of corrupted senshi she'd seen. With cracked skin and gaping black holes in their body. That certainly seemed physical in nature. And yet... people were corrupted through starseeds she'd always heard.. not by some weird injection.

"I see what you mean. You're facing a real challenge and puzzle."

"Even if we captured a youma and held it I don't know that you'd be able to run tests soo..."

Her lips had puckered, brows knitting in just a little. But in the end her face softed and she gave a small shrug and apologetic frown. "I can't really think of anything right now, so I guess the best help I can offer is trying to keep my eyes and ears open."

"We can swap senshi info on our phones and then if I find out anything that I think might be helpful I can send it your way." That seemed the best option in her mind! Collect information and give it to someone else who had a better expertise or basis to actually work with it. Two minds were better than one after all!

Asclepius nodded taking her phone out. "Always a good step one, at least," she agreed, activating the function to collect Polaris' information. "Anything you can find and pass along would be appreciated." Holding the phone up, she scanned the other girl, and flashed a quick smile. "And let me know if there's any help I can offer.

"Medicine isn't just my sphere - I'm studying to be a doctor, so I can offer help with first aid and so forth, no questions asked, of course, since I know our need for secrecy." One foot scuffed the roof a little as she glanced away. "I'm less of a fighter, but I can still help that way, too, if you need to call me." In spite of the fact that the senshi of magnetism felt more powerful, more experienced.

"Oh wow." Both her tone and face showed how very impressed the senshi of magnetism seemed to be with Asclepius' field of study. Going to school to be a doctor was time intensive and difficult for anyone. The classes were sometimes hard and even if it came easy to you the field was still always incredibly competitive. The fact that the other girl had the time and energy for such a high endevour AND to be a senshi was amazing.

Not to mention super useful. Of course she was looking at things in terms of cures and careful study. It made perfect sense now.

If the other senshi felt at all inadequete about not being much of a fighter, Polaris didn't seem to share the opinion, clapping her hands together once as she smiled brighter. "That's such a very useful set of skills for someone on our side. We sure are lucky to have you."

"I hope I don't have an occassion that I need to ask for help, but if I do I'll definately give you a call"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 17, 2012 11:24 am

Asclepius did wonder, rather anxiously and on a regular basis, just how easy it would be to manage her time once classes started up again in full force, and whether or not she would continue to have time to fight monsters and work on her magic pill to heal magic sicknesses, as well as try to get an education in the real world.

But Polaris' praise and smile made her feel a bit brighter, as well, and she found herself smiling back.

"Oh, I'm used to the standard 'see you again' being tremendously awkward when working in an emergency room," the senshi of medicine replied with a slight laugh. "I guess let me know if you learn anything new, too, and I'll be sure to pass along if I somehow make any tremendous breakthroughs." She looked around, then waved to the other senshi. "I guess have a good night. Maybe even a boring one."

Asclepius' candor drew forth a soft little laugh from the senshi of magnetism, ending in an agreeing nod.

"I most definately will. I'm glad I had a chance to meet you." The medicine senshi was easily one of the more unique aquintances she'd met in awhile, and perhaps one that would someday even be able to teach her something useful. Either way, one could never have too many allies.

"Good night and good luck!" Giving a soft two fingered wave she dissapeared over the edge of the building, setting off to find what else the night might have instore for her.
