"Cupcakes, cupcakes," Roch sang as he headed into the demon dorm. His hands were shoved into his pockets, his steps were quite bouncy. Xiu had offered him cupcakes over the groanspring site, and he was here to collect! She probably didn't expect him this soon--he had practically ran out of his dorm room when he got the offer--but cupcakes! Homemade cupcakes! He could practically taste them already!
He almost knocked on her door, but when he noticed it was open he didn't bother, slipping inside and looking around curiously. The sound of typing caught his ears and he headed inside, seeing the baku ghoul at the computer, typing away on an IM of some sort.
Silently, far more silently than a teenage boy should move, he crossed the room, standing behind her where she sat at her laptop and reading her IM for a good minute before fighting a laugh.
He leaned forward, wrapping his arms around her and resting his chin on her shoulder. "Love Squad?" he asked right next to her ear.
She was SO going to scream, but he couldn't help himself!

And scream she did.
Fortunately for Roch's eardrums, Xiu had managed to clamp a hand over her mouth to cut off half of the scream. Heart pounding violently in her chest, the petite ghoul spun around in her chair to face the reaper. The expression on her face was one of relief, and then she pouted, reaching out to lightly slap the boil on the arm.
"T-that was terrible! You shouldn't sneak up like that!" She scolded, before standing up from the seat. He was here to pick up the cupcakes right? As she moved towards the kitchen area, she cleared her throat awkwardly, looking a little embarrassed. "...H-how long were you there for?" And of course, how long had he been reading over her shoulder? Long enough to get to the "Love Squad" bit, at the very least.
The cupcakes were already packed up and ready, and she held the box out to Roch. "Here are the cupcakes."

He grinned, opening the cupcakes and and pulling one out to munch on happily. "Ohh, these are good," he said. "But long enough. How long have you been part of that love squad thing?" he asked her. "What's it do, anyway? Set everyone in the squad up with a boilfriend?"
He put down the box to take with him later. There was no way he was gonna skip out when something so interesting was going on. "Do you have special handshakes or something?"

Xiu was glad that he enjoyed the cupcakes, but she couldn't linger on that feeling for long as the conversation immediately turned to the Love Squad. "I-I can't tell you that. It...it's a secret!" Well, honestly, she didn't know if it really was a secret or not. They had never really established that fact, but she assumed that their targets weren't allowed to know about them.
There was one thing that Roch said that she had to clear up, however. "We...we don't set up anyone in our squad with a boilfriend! We just...we like to help our friends with their relationships." In theory, calling the Love Squad a group of hopeless romantic matchmakers would have been pretty accurate.
"A-anyways! U-uhm..." She needed to change the subject.

He almost choked on his cupcake. "You do what?" he yelped before bursting into laughter. "You--you try and set people up--you're a matchmaking team??" he seemed stuck on the idea, so much so that he put his cupcake down and wiped away the tears of laughter that had come with his amusement.
His little Xiu--a matchmaker??
"Oh jack," he said, shaking his head. "I want to see how this goes."

The Baku was blushing now, though she had her cheeks puffed out indignantly as well. "We...we're not e-exactly a matchmaking team! We just...if a friend is having trouble, we just want to help a little!" Now was that so wrong? Xiu certainly didn't think so. All they were doing was giving Shun and Mitsu a little push! It wasn't as if they were strangers that the Love Squad were smooshing together.
"W-well, I...I'm not telling you who the first couple we want to help is. It could be any one of our friends, so..." She gave Roch a pointed look. Of course, Roch wasn't their first target (and even if he was, they wouldn't know who to pair him up with...Danny, maybe?), but he didn't know that, right?
Moving back to the laptop, she typed a quick message in the chat before minimizing the window. Ahem.

"But Xiu... don't you think you should KNOW something about love before you go off and try to help someone fall in love? You don't even have a boilfriend yourself, y'know?" he asked logically.
He suddenly felt really sorry for whoever their targets were--wait. "It's not me, is it?" he asked, suddenly terrified for himself. "You aren't gonna run off trying to make me fall for some ghoul, are you?"

"I...I don't think I have to have a boilfriend to know what love is like!" The Baku immediately protested, looking a little flustered. Sure, she had never dated before, but that didn't mean she didn't know what love was! At the very least, she knew what familial and friendship love was like. Romantic love...
...W-well, it was a little hard to judge that in high school, wasn't it? There were crushes, but...
She felt a little bad when Roch seemed to panic at the idea of being the Love Squad's first target. She had been about to smile cryptically and shrug, but...
it wasn't very nice to tease. As it was, she did end up smiling anyways, but it was a wry smile. "No, I was kidding. It's not you." Not yet, anyways, but perhaps someday in the future...

Ooooh, she had just wasted a precious chance, and he knew it. She could have tormented him with that one for weeks! But... oh, but this was so easy--too easy. He shouldn't, Roch thought, looking away, a tiny grin pulling at his lips which he quickly stopped.
He really, really shouldn't.
"Well that's good," he said, sighing loudly with relief. He kept looking away from her, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Cuz, y'know, I'd have to turn her down. Then I'd feel guilty." And what you're about to do doesn't make you feel guilty?
Oh, his conscience was dueling SO hard with his evil streak right now. That... was a bit surprising, really. That'd never happened before.

Perking up, the Baku looked at Roch with interest, her eyes widened. "You'd have to...turn her down?" She repeated, unable but to help looking a little curious. She knew that, if he had personal things going on, that she shouldn't prod, but...if he was really uncomfortable with it, then he wouldn't confide in her at all, right? So it wouldn't hurt to ask.
"Roch, could it be that you...?" The idea surprised Xiu. For some reason, she hadn't expected the reaper to be the type to crush on anyone.
Except his guitar.
She was probably looking too deep into things. For all she knew, he would have to turn the ghoul down because he just wasn't interested in a relationship, or because he liked boils.

"I--" He stopped, glancing at her. He wasn't lying. That was a positive note. But--
Oh, if he had a soul to lose, he'd be losing it right now.
"Xiu... y'know..." he said, looking away from her even as he turned back to her. "The closest thing I got to... I mean--this is really awkward," he said. "No, I shouldn't," he added abruptly. "I mean, I ain't got a lot of close--CLOSE friends. I mean, sure, I got people I hang out with when they're around, but-- I really don't wanna lose one of the close friends I got."
That was truth too. It even showed in his voice. But it could be interpreted SO wrong.

Xiu didn't understand. What was Roch talking about? She didn't understand why he thought that he would be losing a close friend, but perhaps it was simply because she didn't see a connection between this and what they had just been talking about. Frowning slightly, she moved towards the couch and sat down, patting the spot beside her.
"Do you want to talk about it?" There was Xiu playing the role of a therapist--also known as a "concerned friend"--again. What he said...he seemed so serious about it, from the tone of his voice. She couldn't help but be concerned.
Smiling slightly from where she sat, the Baku gave a little wave of her tail. "You don't have to tell me right now, but I'm always here to listen if you need someone to lend you an ear."

"You are, aren't you?" he said with a snort. He ran a hand over his face, feeling so torn. "Xiu. You can't be on the love squad thing," he told her, turning to look at her. "Because, seriously, if you even had half a clue you'd have realized that the closest I get to liking someone is YOU."
Count to five, let it sink in, and then tell her you were pulling her leg. That's right, man, five... four... three... two... one...
His mouth refused to move.

How eloquent, Xiu.
That was the first and only thing that left her mouth. After that, she was just staring at Roch blankly, her mouth opening and closing. Clearly she had just heard him wrong! Or he was just joking! She waited for him to burst into laughter. After that, she could pout as usual and complain that he had shocked her into silence, and...and...
Why wasn't he saying it? Perhaps...oh! She just misinterpreted him was all! That must have been it, right? "Y-yes, I...I like you too, Roch. You...you're a...a really great friend!"

His face was blank for a brief second, then slowly, dangerously, an evil smile crossed his face and he stepped forward, reaching up to gently touch her chin with his knuckle.
He'd been joking before, kind of, but she'd just flipped his switch, and he was pretty sure he couldn't turn it off just yet. "Xiu," he said quietly, his voice a bit rough, "you don't believe me?"
Well he was lying, right?
He WAS lying, right?
Holy candlejack... was he lying??
"What should I do to make you believe me?" he asked her, looking straight into her eyes.
