She felt a coward that day. More than once over the course of the past week she had felt the tug of a youma's dark energy and each time Euanthe had turned in the other direction and run off. It wasn't the fact that she didn't feel up to fighting, because when would there ever be a day when she actually wanted to do that? The willingness to do what was scary and unpleasant was one of the things Euanthe was trying her hardest to work on. It was really just that she couldn't see a way how. The monsters she had the misfortune of encountering were agile and quick-thinkers - a challenge even with a partner, impossible for a support-Senshi alone. At each 'ping' of youma energy she'd prayed that she'd find an easy target. Something sluggish, stupid, easy to trick. No luck.
Now as Euanthe sat on a lonely rooftop, legs dangling over the edge, she was praying she wouldn't feel a ping of anything that night. At least this time her prayers were answered, because so far she hadn't. It would have been nice if she could fool herself into thinking that the lack of youma meant that tonight the city would be safe for civilians, but of course all it really meant was that there was a lack of youma near by. Some other Senshi would have to take care of those, wherever they were. Hopefully far away in some other part of the city so that Euanthe wouldn't have to explain to anyone why she was all henshined up and sitting on her a** rather than soldiering onwards in the name of justice.
This would be easier with weapons, she thought. If she was supposed to be a warrior from another planet how come she didn't have some kind of crazy alien weapon thing to make fighting easier? The Negaverse had it damn good and they didn't even deserve it! While Euanthe was stuck sitting around or running from every youma that wasn't half brain dead just because she was saddled with some weak non-damaging magic, Negaverse agents could go around beating to death all the Senshi and civilians they wanted. Man, if only she had some kind of awesome power like Sailor Iris... all this time and Euanthe still remembered with awe the way the eternal Senshi had sliced that youma to bits with her attacks.
Euanthe rested the weight of her head in one hand, sighing. Just thinking about it wouldn't do her any good. People were depending on her now, her allies in the Jovian court needed her to be good. To be a useful Senshi. I will be! She thought, rallying her determination. I won't disappoint them, I can't. Euanthe drew herself into a standing position, vowing once again to make herself better. But how? Well... if she couldn't fight a youma by herself maybe she could find some way to help someone else. With new purpose Euanthe set off across the rooftops at a brisk pace, searching for friendly energy.

Some of the questions plaguing Euanthe had bothered another senshi for quite some time. Going on three years, soon, if the Zodiac Soldier was honest with herself. The question of how to fight a war against an enemy with ever-shifting shape could be answered only minimally from the memories of her past that all Zodiacs bore within them; unlike the White Moon, they knew from their awakening who they were. What they'd done. What they'd left undone.
Elke had only just lifted her transformation pen and become Virgo; the Wednesday-night services at the chapel had only let out mere moments ago. School would begin soon, and then she wouldn't have as much time to indulge vices like the church that she'd practically grown up in. And approaching now was the second year anniversary of Barren Pines, a reminder of Zodiac failures long past and the ones more recent as well. It made her pensive, made her long for the solace of confession and absolution. She'd allowed herself the time in the church, but now she had to patrol.
She took to the rooftops immediately, peered up towards the sky. Soldier Virgo-that-was, Arista, whatever her name happened to be, had never seen the Surrounding from Earth, had never peered up from Earth's sky. Murky memories of life on icy Mercury intruded, a dizzying shift from Virgo to Virgo that provided a look at a distant astral plane, different constellations. All of them, though, inside the aegis of the Surrounding.
Even perfect shields could break. All of them but one.
The blonde senshi turned when she heard footsteps approaching; she tuned into that sixth sense that all senshi possessed, and reached out with her mind to detect the scout headed her way. A rank she'd never held: an integral part of the White Moon's training. "Good evening," she said, once the pink-haired girl came into her line of sight. "Are you okay?"

Before Euanthe could make out Virgo proper she'd noticed a glimmer and gone toward that until she was able to make out the girl herself. Virgo's energy was... the same, yet different? Being only a scout, detecting and analyzing the various pings of energy she encountered was a very murky affair. Euanthe had only been able to consistently identify youma, and only then since there were just so many of them. She paused then, wondering if the person up ahead was one of those Corrupted Senshi that she'd had only just recently been warned of. But this wasn't that same sort of darkly chaotic feeling. It seemed safe.
"Hello," Euanthe called back as she closed the distance between them, cheered by Virgo's friendly greeting. "Yes, I'm fine! Thank you, I- Oh!"
She stopped walking, then took another step forward, another step back. "Oh," she exclaimed again, "Oh wow! Your fuku! It's... amazing!" Judging from her wide-eyed expression and the distinct squeal that had made its way into her voice any and all serious senshi business was utterly forgotten, at least for the moment. "It's such a beautiful color! And your veil! It shimmers! And- and the sleeves!"
Another moment of nearly-sparkling eyes and Euanthe seemed to remember that she was here with a purpose. "I'm sorry. That was not professional," she said, flushing with embarrassment. "My name's Euanthe. It's nice to meet you. I like your dress."

Virgo smiled, looking at the White Moon senshi. She certainly did seem quite new, didn't she? Virgo didn't know that she'd ever seen a fuku like that before... high, laced shoes like her own, but covered in butterflies. And that shade of pale green, so misty and soft! True, she already felt very predisposed to like the taller senshi simply because she'd started off with a compliment to Virgo's own outfit; no matter how long she was a senshi, Virgo would always be proud of her Soldier's uniform. It had taken her so long to obtain it, and she had been the first to don the rarified long bow in this life. "Thank you," she said, "and yours is lovely, too. I love your shoes." It seemed so normal, talking about each other's outfits like at any moment they couldn't be attacked by a monster. Virgo didn't know how to express how much that little moment of normalcy meant to her, so she simply smiled a little bit wider. "My name is Virgo--Captain Virgo of the Zodiac Guard. My sphere of influence is Innocence." After a moment's thought and careful aura examination, she asked suddenly, "Are you alone, Euanthe? I don't sense any other senshi... Is your team sick?" The pink-haired senshi did have a team, didn't she? Oh, Virgo hoped so. If not, she'd simply take the girl under her wing for the evening, and help her find a team in the morning. "Or do you not have one?" That would be a sadness upon myriad, repeating sadnesses, she decided.

"Thank you," Euanthe said, barely able to resist doing a little curtsy. She really didn't have a choice in what she wore, like all the Senshi, but it was nice to get compliments and take credit for it like she'd put the outfit together herself. The fukus were probably the only fun part of this job, unless you were one of those really combat-ready Senshi. It was a breath of fresh air, to talk about essentially nothing at all. Such blitheness was absent in every other aspect of being a soldier. "A Captain?" The young Senshi blinked rapidly. The mention of military rank automatically made her think of the Negaverse, but Virgo was clearly not a part of that group. She was sure that she hadn't heard anything about any Zodiacs either. "So, you're not a 'sailor'? But you have a sphere, which means that you're a Senshi, right? I hope I'm not- not being rude. I've never met any Zodiacs before." Euanthe laced her hands together, rather happy she could say that, yes, she was part of a team. "I have one. Well, I mean, I am part of a court. The Jovian Court. We're the moons of Jupiter, and friends too. We don't have a princess, but everyone is very nice." But, of course, that didn't explain why Euanthe was out on her own right now. There had been that excursion with Babylon to meet Lina, but really she could only count that and the meeting in her 'court duties' tally. In truth, Lene was busy. Lene had school, and ballet, and homework, and hobbies. Euanthe had work and duties and scary monsters to fight. Euanthe was inadequate, Lene sounded like a better deal most of the time. But tonight was about fixing that. "The court itself is kind of new, but a lot of the members aren't," she said, cheerfully. "I'm not really very useful yet, as a Senshi. My sphere - tragedy - it doesn't lend itself to damage. I can't take down a youma on my own. So, for the court, I want to find ways to improve- Oh!" She stopped herself suddenly, remembering her original intentions. "That was why I came over. I wanted to offer my assistance, um, however I can. If you need any."
