This is a private roleplay between Cais [Never Crazy] and Jianyu [kuromeez].

Setting:

Two enemies meet at the docks only to find themselves having to work together. Will they survive?
PostPosted: Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:05 am

Cais shook his head of water as he sat on a shoddy wooden bench. The warm summer air kissed his skin as his body dried under the high sun. He had been diving for hours, splashing against the surface and skimming the ocean bottom just as he always did to wind down from a busy night beforehand. In this case it was just another evening of chasing battles, leaving areas of freshly spilled blood in search of the fighters. Cais hadn't even come close.

A small sigh escaped him as he slipped his shirt back on, cracking his neck back into place with a shudder. Drops of water fell from his hair as he leaned back into the bench, staring up at the sky in deep thought. It had been ages since he had been in any sort of fight and his new weapons were itching to get a taste of it. Cais glared and bent forward, allowing his head to droop while a swirl of distaste and hatred flared up from within. He wasn't sure what bothered him more - the fact he hadn't had a battle or the fact the war continued without him - it was maddening.

The dock around him was eerie and quiet as most were already out at sea; Cais loved the peace that brought. Staring out from under his glare he viewed the sparkling water with a small smile. Despite the drawbacks from his failures during the evenings he found small solace in the moments of the day where he could reflect back on it. Even then, however, he wished he could be doing more as a fighter rather than lounge.

With a grunt he leaned back, feeling his heart pick up a little. Such a strange sensation... Cais blinked and looked around as he sensed a strange vibe approaching. With a quick motion he shrugged it off and resumed watching the ocean and the boats tied to nearby. He was nearly lost in it...

It was unusual for Jianyu to be found at the docks early one day, talking to one of the men who held a large bag of wriggling, flopping, slimy fish in one hand and was gesticulating wildly with his other as he spoke. However, it was one of those rare days where Jianyu had been sent to gather certain bits of information, and as the morning drew on he had been subtly drawing out the necessary men to speak with. So far none had guessed at his real intentions, but it was turning into afternoon now, and most of the ships had departed for their daily trips, leaving Jianyu musing to himself at the beginning of one such dock.

He almost turned around and went back to his camp, except something had caught his eye - something familiar and disgusting. A head of pale green hair, a small, wiry frame...

Knowing full well he should just let it be, should just walk away, Jianyu's eyes narrowed in irritation. He stepped along the dock, moving at a slow pace towards the figure sitting alone on a bench near the end, his gaze directed out at the roiling, crystal blue water, apparently lost in thought. He had looked around a few moments ago, but Jianyu had not been near enough for him to see him.

Now, however, he stood behind the bench, looking down at the figure with a deliberately calm expression on his face.

"Well, well, well..." Jianyu drawled, slipping around to step in front of the bench, one hand resting casually on the crossbow at his hip. "Do my eyes deceive me, or has the little rat grown up a little?"

Cais felt an unsettling sensation on the back of his neck which made the small hairs stand on end. He was about to move an arm back to force them down again when a voice broke out against his nerves. Clenching his mouth he moved quickly, standing to face the source of the noise. The long brown hair caught his eyes and he felt an immediate rush of anger wash through him. "And if my eyes don't deceive me, it seems you've gone from skulking at night to terrorizing in the day time." He grunted out, moving back from him while discreetly shoving his hand into one of his weapons.

Adrenaline was already rushing through his body, though he remained still and glared towards the other with a seething anger. With him around it took very little to get Cais upset, just the mere sight of him drove his temperature up. "What brings the Captain herself out here anyways?" He said with a smirk, crossing his arms over each other and tapping the blades on his hand against his arm gently.

Cais had little more he could manage to say as the anger continued to build. Surely there should have been some instinct to let everything prior go and just walk on, surely his other Nobles could have and yet Cais couldn't resist it. He refused to, not when it was him. Fierce eyes looked back against the other. This time he wasn't going to let him get the better of him. Surely this time.

Jianyu knew very well that he should have left well enough alone. It was the middle of the day, however, and the dock was deserted - it should have been a sign to Jianyu to simply walk away, let the matter go.

Except he didn't. Instead he had already walked up to the bench where the lone figure sat, staring out to sea, and before he knew it, Jianyu had already spoken to him.

There were very few people that Jianyu disliked as much as Trinh Cais. He knew of Xiu's past, he and Bataar had been former lovers and were now best friends, and he even felt a grudging sort of respect for Sakngea, who had attempted to strangle him the last time he had seen the boy. However, Cais was a different story. The complete and utter loathing for the young man was rooted deep within Jianyu, something he could not so easily rid himself of.

"I never terrorize," he said lightly, absently plucking a stray thread from his tunic. He was being deliberately cool headed, though he wanted very much to aim a kick at the side of Cais' head just to knock some sense into him.

Jianyu's expression darkened at the clear slight - herself - though he maintained the calm expression. "I do, however, feel a need to notice when there are certain rats about that need exterminating."

"And what of you?" he said, his voice level. "What does someone like you have to do with the ocean? Feel a need to throw yourself in? By all means, please don't let me stop you."

Jianyu had a way of making Cais want to punch him square in the nose, and this encounter was no exception to that. His fingers clenched tightly into a ball around his bladed weapon - how he would love to scratch out his other eye. He felt his head jerk away from that thought and he remained with a frown, staring up at him with the same indignant glare he often looked at him with.

"Of course not, you'd never do that." He chided, annoyed at the calm demeanor. Cais had an inclination the calm facade was a front, but even with that knowledge it still bothered him to see the same smug face every time. His next comment forced a small growl from the back of his throat. Rat. "And so you set yourself out to destroy other life, I see. Sounds like a righteous mission."

A small smirk lit his face. "I'm sure you'd just love to know hm?" He said, tapping the blades quicker against his arm. "And why? Too lazy to do it yourself?"

For some reason - and Jianyu did not know why, exactly - Trinh Cais was the one person that he loathed more than anyone. Perhaps it was that childish arrogance; the way he seemed to take offense at the world, ignore reasoning, do what it was he felt like doing without taking into account the consequences. Or perhaps it was simply the fact that he, a Noble, had slighted Jianyu purposefully and with spite, lacking any sort of respect.

Either way, Jianyu was not inclined to be taking a liking to Cais anytime soon.

"Nope, never," said Jianyu, purposefully accepting the sarcasm as truth. "My intentions are quite honorable, though with you...well, we'll see."

He scowled, momentarily dropping the facade he was carrying. "I do not destroy life as the Nobles do," he said, an uncharacteristically ugly look on his face as he surveyed the young man in front of him. "That is something the Retainers do in order to 'prove their purpose.' Why do you stand on the side of such a pathetic faction? They will not win; you and I know this as much as the rest.

"And I am not too lazy to throw you in,"
continued Jianyu, once more making his face impassive. "However, it would take a great deal more effort than you are worth, so you should just save me the trouble and throw yourself in."

"Naturally." he said, nodding back to him. Same could be said for you. He thought.

It was interesting to Cais to watch as Jianyu's face moved from calm to upset. He found it amusing in a way, but frowned all the same at the words, crossing his arms tighter around himself. "Tough talk against the Nobles when I have seen my share of leftover carnage thanks to the Legion." He said with a growl. "You assume a lot about the war, are you sure it's a good idea to underestimate your enemies? You like so many others cling to something that isn't going to stand the test of time. Even you should know that change is inevitable." He grunted again, moving his other arm slowly into his other weapon, clenching his hand to tightly hold it.

He was swiftly losing his patience. The urge to punch him in the face was growing deep within him, he was sure he wouldn't be able to hold back from it much longer. "Or you could be a man and do it yourself."

Jianyu did not need to look at Cais to know that the Noble was thinking ugly thoughts about him, since Jianyu's own most likely mirrored Cais'. He could not explain why he felt such a seething hatred towards the boy - perhaps it was the arrogance he saw within him; the haughty way he held his head, the dismissive snorts he gave when he felt as if he were the one who would be victorious. It grated deeply into Jianyu's nerves, made him wish for nothing more than to run an arrow through the young man's chest.

"At least the Legion do not slaughter mercilessly," Jianyu said darkly, his eyes flashing dangerously. "We do not take lives that are not meant to be taken. I speak a lot of war because I have seen much more than you have, Cais. You are but a child; I am, and always will be, much more intelligent on this subject matter than you ever will be. You see the war through the eyes of someone who does not fully understand it."

It was steadily growing; that blackness, the twisting, curling hatred that filled his stomach, clouded his mind and negated his proper senses. Jianyu could not control it, though he wished he could - sometimes.

"Fine, then," he said, and reached out, his fist lashing out and embedding itself into Cais' stomach.

A shudder of loathing moved up through his body as his eyes stared him through like a poison. No one else could move him this way straight into hatred. With a growl Cais tightened his grip around his weapon, the blades brushing against his skin with agitation.

"And I'm sure you all abide by that 100% of the time right?" Cais spat back bitterly. "But I'm sure you know so much more about that Captain." He continued, his bright eyes flashing with the overwhelming anger growing within him. It was obvious they were past words now, after all, what were words without action?

Just as that fact had dawned on the fighter he felt it, a swift and precise blow to his stomach. With a quick motion he wrenched free of it, coughing slightly with a defiant gaze back to the perpetrator. After a moment of catching his breath he shot back a dirty look, despite the pain. "About damn time." He grunted, taking off with a running start and threw his entire body into him, tackling him down.

Anger was driving him now.

"I know a great deal more than you do, yes," said Jianyu, then gave a grunt of anger as he was suddenly thrown backwards, Cais using the force of his entire body to shove the both of them down onto the docks. Jianyu's head hit solid wood, sending pain ricocheting through his skull. Making a noise like a an angry cat, he shoved his leg upwards between his body and Cais', pressing his knee against the boy's stomach and shoving with all of his might.

It successfully managed to pry the other away, but Jianyu was back to him in a second, grabbing onto Cais' shirtfront and throwing him back, wanting to land another hit.

Except there was something at the end of the docks - a pile of rope, haphazardly left for the boat that was tied to the end, and Jianyu's foot caught in one of the thick bands. A shout of anger and surprise escaped his lips as he toppled over the side of the dock, dragging Cais with him, the ropes wrapping around him in a tangle of rough string.

"Fire and damnation - "

If regret was in Cais's vocabulary it would be what he would be feeling as he felt the sharp rebuttal of Jianyu's knee into his sternum as he was flung from his body. The small sense of pleasure he had at the sound of his skull hitting the dock was short lived as he grabbed at the spot, but it was too late as the iron grip of the other was on him and tossing him. "Grngh!" He let out.

Taking but a second in an attempt to recover he felt an actual word begin to form on his lips but it was stolen as he felt gravity catch a grasp of him and the bumbling body of the other while an entanglement fell over him. It was hard to tell precisely what had happened and the young fighter scrambled to get out from the sort-of net that had fallen over him.

"I didn't know girls could weigh so much!" He hissed angrily, shoving at the other as hard as he could. Despite the no-knowledge of his surroundings, he couldn't help himself. In any situation his hate would be the first to lead and his brain to follow. Always.
