Potions !
At hogwarts: Potions is described as the art of creating mixtures with magical effects. It requires the correct mixing and stirring of ingredients at the right times and temperatures. It is related to Chemistry, but with a more sinister twist. As to the question of whether a Muggle could brew a potion, given the correct magical ingredients, Rowling has said, "Potions seems, on the face of it, to be the most Muggle-friendly subject. But there does come a point in which you need to do more than stir." Snape's lessons are depicted as unhappy, oppressing times set in a gloomy dungeon in the basement of the castle, whilst Slughorn's, who replaces Snape as Potions Master, is shown as more cheerful and even fun at times.

LESSON PLAN
I WILL POST INGREDIENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE WE BEGIN A POTION. (THIS IS SO THAT EVERYONE IS DOING THE SAME THING SO THERE AREN'T A MILLION DIFFERENT WAYS TO MAKE ONE POTION...)
EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED WILL BE LAID OUT ON YOUR DESK FOR YOU BEFORE YOU BEGIN. IF YOU DO NEED ANYTHING ELSE, EXTRAS ARE LOCATED IN THE CUPBOARD AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM.
We will be doing ONE lesson per week, with homework when I say there is homework. *cracks whip*
SEPTEMBER:
This month's focus will be on healing simple things like common colds and coughs. You will be allowed to take these potions from the room. This is to ensure that barring a more serious illness, you will NOT miss class. MUAHAHAHAHAAHAHA.
4 - 11: Grand Pepperup Potion
12 - October 2: Cough Potion
OCTOBER
This month's potions will focus on changing your physical appearance...these potions are particularly effective on HALLOWEEN...*Hinthint*
3 - 9: Aging Potion
10 - 16: Beautification Potion
17 - 23: Hair-raising Potion
24 - 30: Invisibility Potion
NOVEMBER
This month's potions are just more complex potions that I think everyone should know about.
October 31 - November 6: Fire Protection Potion
7 - 13: Antiparalysis Potion
14 - 20: Befuddlement Draught
21 - 27: Love Potion Antidote
DECEMBER
This month's lessons will be on potions that involve magical creatures.
November 28 - December 4: Unicorn Capturing Draught
5 - 11: Doxycide
12 - 18: Dragon Tonic
19 - 22: SURPRISE PLANNED

INTRODUCTION I am Professor Akahana, head of Ravenclaw and resident Hogwarts Potions Mistress. I've been teaching for three years. (Since the start of the guild a year ago. biggrin ) There are rules in my class:
RULE #1: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE POTIONS. TO. THE. LETTER. Any deviations can result in loss of limb, death, or simply my hand gracing the back of your head with its presence.
RULE #2: Treat your fellows as you would have them treat you. Should I have to assign detentions for roughhousing in my laboratory, they WILL NOT be nice detentions.
RULE #3: DO NOT TAKE POTIONS FROM THE ROOM UNLESS I HAVE SAID SPECIFICALLY THAT YOU CAN. ANY potions removed from the room without my say-so will result in loss of house points.
RULE #4: Talking amongst yourselves is encouraged. If you can help the person next to you to better understand what they have to do, then please, by all means, help. I'll also allow the discussion of other things so long as you are actively working.POINTSHomeworks are assigned rarely and are worth 15 house points. Potions are assigned weekly and are worth 10 points upon completion. Attendance (Checking in with me once a week through PM) is worth 5 points per week. ( 1. Follow Gaia ToS.
2. Follow all Hogwarts rules, set by Headmistress Sing.
3. Please use the English language in my dungeon. No u's r's c's...no l337 speak or however it's spelled, I don't care, I don't use it, neither will you when I'm teaching.
4. Homework is to be posted neatly here in the classroom.)

Ayamae walked into the classroom and immediately waved her wand at the cupboards in the back corner of the room. Ingredients burst forth from them and set themselves neatly out on the tables.
She sat down behind her desk and stared absentmindedly out the window. She wished that she were still up in the hospital wing with Donny...

Ayamae leaned back in her chair and tapped the blackboard with her wand and bright purple letters formed on it. It read:
WELCOME TO POTIONS
Underneath, more letters began to form, spelling out the name, ingredients, and instructions for the first potion.

GRAND PEPPERUP POTION
INGREDIENTS:
2 tsp. powdered bicorn horn
1 minced mandrake root
1 tsp. octopus powder
3 cups of water
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1: Heat up the water until it starts to bubble. It shouldn't be a rolling boil yet.
STEP 2: Add the 2 tsp. of powdered bicorn horn.
STEP 3: Mince your mandrake root.
STEP 4: Bring your water to a true boil.
STEP 5: Add your mandrake root.
STEP 6: Let the mandrake root break down and become soupy. This may take about fifteen minutes.
STEP 7: Let the mixture cool.
STEP 8: Stir in the octopus powder.
STEP 9: Put some in a test tube, stopper it, and bring it up to the rack on my desk for grading. You may take the rest with you if I deem your potion acceptable for consumption.

Fionna had enjoyed walking to DADA with Lucas. They had snuck in some conversation during class as well. The more time she spent with him the harder it was to ignore her feelings for him. They kept seeping in through her barrier and she sometimes almost acted upon those feeling, but she quickly noticed and shut them back down.
These thoughts were going through Fionna's head as she entered the potions classroom. She noticed she was again the first student in class. She seemed to be early often. Fionna smiled and walked inside noticing the Professor up front. "Hello Professor." She said before picking a desk and depositing her belongings. She looked at the board to see they were getting started right away this year because there was already a potion on the board. That was fine with Fionna. She started to get out her book and kit to begin the brew.

Fionna looked back at the Professor and replied, "Oh yes, it was quite good. A tad boring at times, but fun for the most part. What about yours ma'am?" She nodded not wanting to get into details about her personal life with her Professors. She let her bag drop to the floor to make space for her cauldron and other supplies.

"It was satisfactory. I'm actually kind of glad to be back."
She pulled out her flask and took a swig. It is good to be back...she thought.

Ghaleon Elmerast, Ravenclaw, 5th Year
Ghaleon always enjoyed going to potions class. His father was a potion maker himself, though by no means was he fantastic at it, always made Ghaleon feel a bit closer to his father. Or at the very least helped Ghaleon to stop anything to chatostrophic from happening while at home.
Looking around the class he saw Fionna (whom always seemed to get to each class just before himself) and the Professor. "Hello Professor" He spoke to her before looking for a seat, figuring he'd take one of the empty ones by Fiona, hoping she wouldn't mind. "Hello" He said to her nicely as he started to prepare for the potion brewing as well.

Potions at last Helen thought to herself; I can't wait. She walked briskly to the far table nearest the cupboard - it was always good to be near it, in case of accidents that required one to restart (though Helen wasn't in the habit of botching potions). Her mother was a talented cook and also quite good at potion making. Helen had learned quite a bit from her mother about it, and felt confident in front of a cauldron. Her wand was even made of Hemlock - the best kind of wood for mixing potions. She sat at the desk, and within the space of a minute had already gotten the water onto boil and was mincing the Mandrake root with the expertise of a finely trained chef - without waiting for others. She was so happy to finally be in her comfort zone - she had missed cooking! Though she now realised that perhaps she would be scolded for plunging into things.

Ayamae leaned back in her chair and looked out the window at the grounds of the castle. She wanted like crazy to spend some time there later with Donny...she snapped out of her daydreaming and addressed the class.
