Jonda stepped out into the river, dipping his black muzzle in and drank the cool water, letting it slide down his parched throat. He'd just come from the forest where shadows and fog had seemed to chase him relentlessly. His hide still jumped nervously. Jondayla closed his light blue eyes as he brought his head back up and angled it towards the morning sun.
Becca and he had seperated for a few days, her reasoning, to let him meet some new friends and not hide behind her all the time. Jonda scoffed as he stretched his foreleg out and leaned his head low again, this time inspecting the bamboo leaf around his back ankle. Everythng was quiet except for the gurgle of the stream.

Borealis watched the black-and-white stallion curiously. For a blinded horse, he certainly had put up quite the chase. Typically, when Borealis ran with the fog, he saw no one. The shadows he loved so well tended to unnerve other Azrein, but Borealis liked it that way. Less chance of wandering into unnecessary, unwanted conversation.
But today, today was different. Borealis inched himself quietly toward the water, hoping the cool breeze would be enough to hide his scent and the sound of flowing water enough to hide his steps. He might be seeking companionship, but that didn't mean he needed to be obvious about it. At least there's no chance of being seen...

Jonda sighed as his body relaxed a bit. His muscles quivered from the exertion he'd given himself from running so far and fast. Blue eyes then gazed into the water at his reflection, studying himself as if to see what was in him that made him so nervous around everything.
A smile caressed his face as the wind shifted direction and lifted his mane up, cooling the back of his neck. He breathed deeply, blissfully, until a new odor rushed into his nose. Nervously he looked around, his eyes darting from place to place, trying to find the source of the scent. His hooves shifted nervously and it wasn't until he studied the oddly shaped fog cloud closer that he noticed the azrein. Ready to bolt he waited for the other azrein to make a move.

Borealis closed his eyes and shook his head. So much for going unnoticed... Bending his head down to drink, he popped one eye open to look at the other stallion, who appeared to be shaking in his horseshoes, looking at Borealis with a frightened stare. Great. Probably going to call me horn head as soon as he stops quivering like a coward. "Not that I particularly care, but why are you looking at me as if I'm going to grow another head?" Borealis swished his tails in annoyance. "It's not like I asked you over, anyway," he grumbled Tossing his mane flippantly, he met the other's eyes with a steady glare. "Seriously, why are you here, if not to bother me with your nervous condition?"

Jondayla narrowed his eyes at the strange azrein, as he gained his composure and stopped shaking. He still stood light-hooved, ready to flee at the slightest hesitation. I came here to drink.. I got here first..." He stumbled out, his blue eyes watching the horned creature cautiously.
His ears flicked backwards, in case this azrein was one of the six, ready to attack.

"Oh. Well, drink then. As long as you aren't here to poke fun at me, then whatever." Borealis' curiosity had gotten the best of him, though. "What's got you horrified, anyway? Something I should be wary of?" He beat the urge to look behind him, knowing that, in a worst-case scenario, he could always leave an unseen threat in his dust.
Borealis stamped his foot impatiently when no reply was given. "C'mon, I know you can't see, but what is it? A smell? A noise? All of the above?"

Jonda shook his head and tried to relax a bit. It wasn't as if this azrein would kill him before he could run.. right? Though if this was the monster in the mist...
"Nothing.. I just... was frightened by you..." Jondayla looked away. Almost everything frightens me... though I don't know why..." He responded softly, his eyes looking the other over carefully.
He doesn't look too frightening.. Besides Jonda.. running from everything has made you fast.. You could leave him in the dust if he tries anything funny.. Jonda assured himself. Wait...? Can't see?
W..what do you mean, can't see? I can see perfectly fine...." Jonda said, his eyebrows knotting in confusion. Was this other azrein commenting on his light blue eyes?

"Oh. I just assumed you were blind." Borealis frowned ruefully, upset with himself. Just like everyone assumes I'm a freak. Maybe I'm not so much better than they are, if I can do the same thing. Pulling himself up to his full height, Borealis decided that he would make up for his mistake. Can't have this guy thinking I'm a bully.
"I, uh, I didn't mean to hurt your... Um, feelings?" Borealis glanced nervously from side to side, checking his peripherals to make sure no one else was around to see his attempts at friendliness. "Oh! And I, well, that is to say, um... I wasn't trying to scare you back there, you know, in the fog... Yes? Right." He bit at his lower lip, worrying at it a bit, and his tail streamers twitched their ends in the damp grass. "Just don't like having my space invaded, okay? Don't like being bothered, that sort of thing." Borealis snorted derisively. breaking eye contact. He hated being thrown into conversation unawares; made him feel itchy and uncomfortable, and the inevitable silence between speaking caused him to fidget.
"This is the part where I tell you my name, correct?" he asked, lifting his right back hoof to scratch at his left hind leg absentmindedly. "Because I'm Borealis, if that's the case." He attempted a smile, then saw his reflection in the lake and thought better of it. That's just going to scare him more...

Jonda listened carefully to the other odd azrein. No.. I'm not blind.. and no.. You didn't hurt my feelings.. Just shocked me." He said carefully as he watched the other's movement cautiously.
"Its fine.. the scaring part?.. I'd have been scared even if you hadn't been in the fog... I'm very jumpy.. Kinda has to do with... Well.. stuff when I was younger." He explained as Borealis started to look uncomfortable.
"I'm Jondayla.. Jonda for short if you like..." He commented, calming down a bit, his hide stopping its jumpy, fear-filled jerks.

"Jonda, huh?" Borealis let out the huge breath of air he didn't even realize he'd been holding in. "So." He rubbed his neck against his left shoulder, eyes glancing around, a mildly embarrassed look across his face. "Heh, heh, yup." Slowly, Borealis stretched back up; his tails hung still and perfectly straight with nervous energy.
"Look, uh--Jonda? Yeah, I've never really, um, introduced myself to someone--" well, not successfully, anyway, Borealis finished in his thoughts. He worried his bottom lip with his teeth absentmindedly. "I don't... I don't suppose you've, um, been on my side of the conversation before? Know what gets said next, that sort of thing?"
If I could only smack myself in the face with my hoof...

Jonda looked at the other, slightly bigger azrein with his head cocked to the side, black mane falling over and hiding one light blue eye. "Well.... usually the other would say something along the lines of "Its a pleasure to meet you, I am..." and say their name..."
Jonda's tail twitched as he studied the other. It seemed as if he wasn't the only azrein unaccustomed to meeting others. Oh what his chosen would say if only she'd see Jondayla now.
