It was a beautiful day out. The white lion yawned hugely as the heat from the sun baked his back comfortably. Spina accused him of using his turn at hunting as an excuse to doze and laze around. Well, she was right, but he did also hunt and bring home food, so what was she complaining about?

Besides, if she insisted on spending some of her time hunting for things to decorate their den instead of for meals, why couldn't he search up some sunbeams, and a good place to catch them?

Women. He'd never fully understand them.

Pale blue eyes scanned the sun kissed land, a mask of worry and confusion painted on his face. He knew he was on familiar grounds, that much was kind of obvious to him. But he could not say what grounds it was, or why he was even out in the first place. The last thing he really remembered was padding along and watching a bunch of zebra and gazelle do their herbivoric thing, but then everything just went blank. He could not remember a thing past waking up this morning.

Flicking an ear, Tok gave a blink before slowly turning his gaze to the sky above and then back to his surroundings. To his surprise he spotted another lion who seemed quite comfortable under the heat of the African sun.

'Huh, maybe he can tell me where I am.' Tok thought to himself as he rose from his spot and made his way over towards the other male.

Antallian's ears flicked slightly as he heard a different sound from the normal noises around him. Looking around, his eyes came to rest on another white lion, though this one had a purple mane, in contrast to his own sand. It was a stranger too, but that was hardly surprising. Everyone was a stranger at some point.

Still, Bauble wasn't one for staring contests. If he knew someone else was in the vicinity, he was going to make conversation. On his terms.

"Well 'ello there," he greeted the other male cheerfully. "Come 'ere often?" Yes it was the worst pick up line in the book, but it was a male he was giving it too, not a female, right? He should get some kind of credit for that.

Though the other male's choice of words were a bit off sounding to Tok, he was happy to know that the stranger was at least someone of a friendly nature, and someone who might actually know the area around them. Though the information he might receive wouldn't really help him much, he could always hope it would have a chance of jump starting his memory, right? Well that or for all he knew he would just forget 5 minutes later and end up "lost" again.

"Ha, I wish I could answer that, but to tell you the truth I am not so sure if I have been here before. I seemed to have lost track of my mind once more, and can't seem to find it. It's a pity really..."

Tok gave a frown as he settled a bit away from the other male. While he seemed friendly enough he didn't want to push his luck by invading on the sandy named lion's personal bubble or anything.

"Do you happen to know what area I am in?"

Hooray, someone who would talk to him! Civilly, even! Antallian could almost kiss the stranger. Then the sense of what he was hearing began to penetrate. This male...couldn't remember anything? That was nothing the white-and-sand lion had ever heard of before, nor was he sure how to help it.

"Well, that's a right problem fer sure," he commented, trying to figure what the best answers were. "We're here in the Rogue Lands, unclaimed by any o' them prides. An' this happens ta be the region I live in so you could say I know it better'n most." He paused, then added "But it's got no name that I or anyone I've talked to knows."

He doubted any of that would help. He could certainly help the other lion get somewhere else, but it was looking like the other male wouldn't remember where he was going!

He slowly nodded at the other male's words while trying to keep a hold on them. It was be a sad waste of the other lion's time if the words were to just fly past Tok, but sometimes such things are inevitable. He only wishes he could understand his condition and learn how to handle it, but short term memory didn't seem to be a common thing, so he doubted he could find anyone that could help it. It didn't matter much though. He just learned to live with it, plus sometimes it just made things interesting and amusing, especially when his memory did flood back for a few moments.

"Rogue lands, huh? Well that does sound familiar, so I don't think I will have much to worry about then, that is until I have to head home. I just hope my memory comes back before that." he said with a slight chuckle.

"Sometimes my condition is a problem, well most of the time it is, but alas, all I can do it learn to live with it. I find it amazing that I've made it as far as I have in life. Though sometimes I have a strange feeling that I am forgetting some important things..."

Tok didn't know how right he was. It was a sad thing for him not to remember that he had 15 or so cubs running around in some pride.

"Oh well though! You have to make the best of what you have, right? By the way, my name is Nigliktok, but you may call me Tok if you wish. I'm sorry if I disturbed your nap."

Antallian was somewhat fascinated, if slightly frustrated, by the other's words. He...couldn't remember things. Memory was one of the keys to survival as far as the sandy-maned lion was concerned and what made him worry over how the purple-maned lion - Tok - would manage.

"Name's Antallian, an' I wasn't sleepin' yet," he replied in kind. "If'n I knew a healer or apothecary I'd prob'ly take you to 'em," he commented. "But I don't know any that're in the area right now."

He cocked his head to one side as something occurred to him. "You can't've forgotten everythin', right? What do you remember?"

What did he remember? As he tried to gather that information his mind slowly went silent, empty, cloudy. It was as if his mind didn't want him to know what he could and could not remember, which he knew would someday come to bite him straight in his hind side.

Sighing, the male gave a pout and a slight shrug. "I can obviously remember my name. I have a good feeling that I am not a part of any pride. If I was there would probably be someone looking for me, right? I guess the same can go for family. If I had any family they would be looking for me too. Hm..."

As he tried to dig deeper in to his memory, his ears flicked around, and nose twitched. "Nah, I can't really remember anything except some basic information, and I HOPE some of the basics of surviving too." he said with a laugh.

" I must seem like a sad sad little lion. It would be nice if I could get some help, but some things just can't be helped. I thank you for your thoughts of helping though."

The white and sand lion listened carefully. It could be good or bad, from the little he knew of prides, that Tok was fairly certain he wasn't in one. A pride would know a lot more about him, true, but it could also come with responsibilities he had no recollection of. A job. A mate. Kids. As a rogue though, the chances of the white and purple lion running into someone who'd actually known him were significantly lower. Even if he did have a job, mate or kids. Which was possible either way.

Antallian shook his head. "I'll tell you true, I've never heard o' somethin' like that before," he told the other male. "Seems quite disturbin' to me," he added with a shudder.

"But, if'n there's a bit o' help you need, learnin' or relearnin' yer way around, them basics, the lot, p'rhaps I kin be o' assistance?" It...stung, a bit, that there didn't seem to be anything Bauble could do to help this guy. But he just didn't have the experience. So he'd do what he could. Better than nothing, right?

If he had turned his head any faster and harder, then poor Tok might have had a chance at getting some form of whiplash. Was the older male really offering him help? Did the guy even know what he was possibly getting in to? Tok just hoped taking up such an offer wouldn't turn out bad for either of them.

"Really? I-I mean I don't want to end up being any kind of burden to you, Sir. I don't want you to feel as if you are my babysitter or something...", he trailed off as he lost himself in thought once more.

Only the gods above knew he needed some sort of guardian in some form or manner. At least then he would be safer than he was when wondering around on his own with no sense of direction, no sense of 'home'. Maybe he handicap was a punishment from above, or some sort of curse. Maybe he had it for a reason which he didn't know of yet. Who knew. If he did, then he sure didn't remember anymore.

"You know if I have another episode I could end up forgetting who you are, but it would be nice for some part of me to at least know there is someone I can rely on if I ever run in to them again. So I will take you up on your offer, with a prayer that I won't end up forgetting your face."

Even odds that Ina was going to kill him for this one. Sure, she'd brought Buni back, but the sandy lioness was a good friend. Antallian's biggest fear right now was that Tok really would end up being like...a really big baby. Well, he didn't talk like one or act like one, but there was still the possibility.

Please, oh gods, let him have chosen correctly!

"Nah, y'seem like a pretty t'gether fellow, savin' the not rememberin' bit," Bauble dissembled a bit. "So long as that's the case, you 'n' me 'n' m'mate should get along jest fine," he replied with a smile.

"Tho' I kin tell you this: Ina won' like it if'n you don' find a place o' yer own soon. Don' matter if it's close or not, but she don' like others in our den fer too long," the white and sand lion warned. One of Inatarni's favorite sayings was that houseguests, like an uneaten dinner, tended to stink after three days. And worse than that in high summer.

"Oh no. No. No" Tok said while letting out a light chuckle and waving a single paw around. "No, I would never allow something like that to happen. I know I have my problems, but I would never allow them to become a burden for those around me. I promise I will be out in no time at all, I promise."

With that said, Tok gave a confident nod. However his confidence could only go so far. He could speak all he wanted, it was just a matter of actually remembering his word and getting it done that was the problem. Still, he was sure his promise could some how overcome his problems in the end. There was no way he was going to let his new found friend down.

"I'm sure though.. I have a feeling things will turn around eventually. It's just a matter of finding my why there."

Antallian nodded, content for now. Sure 'Tok was an odd one, but he'd met stranger in his time, and he got the feeling the other lion meant well. He didn't know why the other male would be incapable of remembering his past, but he didn't seem to have much trouble with the present.

"If'n that's all settled, seems t'be time an' past t'go home," the white and sand lion commented genially. "Let me lead you, an' show you the way."

:Right behind ya Antallian!"

With a big goofy grin on his face, Tok excitedly jumped to his paws, his tail swishing around like some kind of excited pup. After all, it wasn't everyday he got to meet a new friend, or was offered a temporary place to stay. 3 days might not mean much to some, but it meant a lot to him.

Hopefully the start of this little adventure would go better than his other ones...

FIN!
