It was the evening before Tahki took the train to Lizzies beach house. Tahki had decided to go into town before she left and grab a cup of coffee at a local corner cafe. It was a trendy little place complete with out side tables with umbrellas. The waitress had seated Tahki at one of these out side tables where the gryphon now sat with a big book opened looking quite studious.
Only, what Tahki was reading was far from educational. Childrens adventure books had always been a bit of a guilty pleasure of the gryphons. She was nose deep in an adventure. The main character in the book had just cornered two thieves but had tripped over him self and was now their hostage. Oh, it was getting good.
"Heres your coffee young lady, " The waitress was greeted with a yelp from Tahki. Her heart was in her throat and now her book was on the ground. Tahki's tail was completely poofed out. All and all the gryphon looked ridiculous.
The waitress shrugged it off like anyone would have given that reaction and went back inside leaving muttering something about ungrateful kids these days.
Tahki, on the other hand, was frowning at her now grounded book. It had landed in a spilled puddle of coffee.
"Ruined another book..."

Tybalt was also in town and was actually on his way back now that he located and captured his runaway minipet. His celestial rune, Tiberia, was not one to sit still and took every opportunity to sneak off when he could. Much to his owners annoyance. In fact, he was in the middle of scolding the creature when they both heard a splash like sound, followed by a startled yelp. It was enough to make both of them stop and look around for the source. Which Tybalt eventually found that it was no one other than Tahki, the gryphon ghoul he met not too long ago, though who now seemed to mourning the loss of her drink... or something...
"Hey Tahki!" He called, careful to make sure he was in view rather than call her name and give her another start of surprise. After all, she did seem to be jumpy by nature. "Spilled your drink--" He started, letting his line of sight followed hers, which eventually brought it to the book that was sitting in a puddle of fresh coffee. "--and your book?" He finished, picking it up with his free hand; looking it over carefully and handing it back. Though not before giving it a good shake.

Hey Tahki
Hrmm? The gryphons ears perked and she looked around to see just who.. Tybalt? Tahki could not hide the surprise from her face to see the dog ghost up and about in town. It was a bit of a shock.
"T-Tybalt?" Had he seen her drop her book? Why did that thought embarrass her so much? Last time they had met she'd lost her headphones. Now she was losing her book. But before she could say anything else the dog ghost was shaking the book dry and handing it back to her.
A few drops had gotten on her from the shaking but she wasn't about to complain to the dog. The gryphon happily took the book.
"T-thanks... Uhh.. What are you doing in town? " Was he on some sort of adventure?

Tybalt nearly groaned at her question, but instead held the celestial rune up by the scruff for her to see.
"This." He continued to hold it there, even while the little critter squirmed and glared. "Maybe... He kinda' just took off on me. Something must have sparked his interest. OR he decided on being pain in the a**. I'm leaning more towards the latter." He shrugged and tucked Tiberia back under his arm; firmly enough that he could not wriggle free and send the black dog off on another wild goose chase.
"What about you? Anything interesting on your end?" He asked, though since he was looking at the book, she could probably assume he was asking about it. He wasn't much of a reader. Never was in fact. He had never really seen much point in books, but he couldn't say that he wasn't curious about them at least.

Tahki let out a small gasp when Tybalt revealed the minipet. She couldn't help but chuckle a bit though when the black dog tucked the mini under his arm. Minipets could be pain in the asses some times.
"He certainly seems to be under control now," She grinned at both the mini and the Tybalt. Tybalts question about what she was doing made her sigh. She had no exciting chase tales like Tybalt about an escaped mini. Her eyes darted to the book and spilled coffee and then back to Tybalt.
"Just taking it easy and grabbing some coffee. I was enjoying a book but its.. err... kind of .... soggy.." The book indeed was soggy. Still, the thing was readable. Kind of. Maybe Tahki could use a blow drier on it later. Tahki noticed that Tybalts eyes seemed to be fixated on the soggy book and couldn't help but smile a little.
"The book was a good one at least. I'd just gotten to the bit where the hero gets in to trouble because he tripped over him self. The thieves had caught him and he was now in a lot of danger. I... Umm... I'm not sure what would have happened to him," Her finger poked the book. It sogged even more. Tahki frowned at it.

"More or less." He agreed. "He won't be running off anytime soon, I can assure you that. Maybe I should get a harness for him though... Just in case." He thought aloud looking down at the critter as it squirmed again.
A futile attempt.
"You could try opening it up where the worst of it is and using a blow drier on it." He suggested, echoing her own thoughts. "It doesn't seem like it's taken too much damage. Probably stained though. But so long as you can read the words, it's not a big deal right?" Then again, Tahki might be the sort who liked to keep her belongings in top condition.
"Ahh, so it's officially a cliffhanger now, eh?" He asked, showing off his serrated teeth in a wide grin.

"Harness?" Tahki tapped her chin, "T-theres a place in town you could get one I think? I'm.. oh your right.. I suppose I could blow dry... hmmmm.." The gryphon eyed the book. The black dog was right though, it wasn't ruined.
"Cliff hanger, story of my life," Oh wait did she say that out loud? The gryphon covered her mouth with her hand and bit her lip. "I-I mean, stuff like this likes to happen when I get to the good part in most things." She had a number of video game stories mostly where the power would go out right at the best moment. She'd not have reached a saved point or something and would have to go all the way back.
"So.. Uh.." Tahki pointed to the mini, "I don't mind maybe going with you if you want to check that store out... I'm done with my coffee," The coffee cup just laid there on the ground. Tahki was sure the waitress would love to see this mess when she came out. Just LOVE it.
"I need to square up with the waitress first.."

"Is there really?" He asked, looking around slightly, as though expecting the shop to be in sight. Which of course, it wasn't.
"Hmm? Story of what?" He asked, turning his attention back to her when she spoke quietly. Obviously he missed too much to understand what she really meant and instead assumed she was talking about the book, or at least a book. It wasn't until she spoke up again that he clued in to what she actually meant. "Oh! Yeah, life sucks like that a lot." He agreed. Not that he could really relate to what she was referring to. Had barely touched both books or games.
"Really? That would be great!" To be honest, he preferred having company and so didn't mind people tagging along when they wanted to. Unless of course, he couldn't stand them. Then it would be a different story. Luckily, Tahki was someone he did like, so there was no problem.
"You wanna' get another coffee to go? My treat." He offered, since after all, she didn't really get to enjoy her last one.

"Oh .. Uh the book is actually about a boy trying to find his way home from a magical world but he ends up on many missadventures and ... Ummm... Well I m not really sure beyond where I'm at... " Tahki eyed the book and frowned at it harder this time. But that frown faded fast with Tybalts excitement about Tahki keeping him company. It made her even forget the spilt coffee and the book until Tybalt offered to buy her one.
".. Really? W-what? N-nono its okay I can buy for my self. But I'd love to have another cup of coffee." She eyed the spilled mess on the ground. "Maybe this time I'll get to actually enjoy it."

"Well, as soon it's dry you'll be able to find out." He nodded. "It shouldn't take more than a few hours... I think... Though you might want to separate the pages from time to time... So that they don't stick together." He suggested, only because he had something similar happen to one of his school books a while back when he carelessly left it on a table in his dorm. Never again. Or at least not with minipets hanging around. Some times he swore they were out to cause trouble.
"You sure? I really don't mind." He assured, leaving his offer open if she changed her mind, as he readjusted Tiberia under his arm; who had settled for glaring silently. Not that Tybalt would pay it any mind. He was not exactly thrilled with him to begin with. If he wanted to sulk than he could go right ahead and sulk!
"Eh, I'm sure you will." He responded with a smile at her last comment. Besides, its not like she'd drop coffee twice in one day, right?

"Hmm.." Tahki poked the pages and nodded. The logic of separating the pages made sense to the gryphon. There was nothing worse then reading an old book only to find that pages were stuck together. The gryphon was already fast at work stuffing paper napkins between the pages.
"Oh.. I-if you want to then sure, but I'll get the next thing kay?" Tahki couldn't take advantage of some one like Tybalt. Or anyone for that matter. It wasn't in her. Accepting gifts or kindnesses had always been something Tahki struggled with.
It wasn't long before a slightly annoyed looking waitress appeared. Her eyes were on the mess of coffee on the floor and the over use of napkins between pages. She gave an annoyed grunt at the two teens to alert them of her presence.
Tahkis cheeks flared bright red.
"Oh.. umm.. I m sorry miss I'll clean it up...."

Tybalt gave a slight snort, and smiled. "I'm sure. Consider it a gift between friends." He said, only to shake his head at her offer. "Naw, it's fine. A gift is a gift." He assured and hoisted Tiberia, who was starting to slide back, up securely under his arm again.
When the waitress made her reappearance, Tybalt also, even though he came after the incident, shied a little before the angry waitress. Then again, he usually did in the presence of an angry adult. "I'll... go get some paper towels." He said with a weak smile; leaning towards Tahki and whispered. "Are the people here normally this cranky looking?" He asked. "She looks as though she's gonna' burn a hole through our skulls." The last part came out as a snicker as he walked into the shop, minipet and all ( despite the 'no pets aloud' sign hanging on the door ) before he returned a minute later with both a handful of paper towels in one hand and a coffee in the other.
"I asked for what you previously ordered." He said not sure if she wanted the same, or not as he placed the coffee cup on the table next to the one they were standing at.

A gift? It made Tahki feel a little bad but she accepted with a shy nod.
"O-okay." She'd have to secretly do something for Tybalt when he was least expecting it.
The waitress glaring at them made the gryphon a little uneasy, until Tybalt got up to get some paper towels that was. His whisper did wonders for her esteem and even got a bit of a giggle.
"I think someones in need for a trip to christmas land," She whispered back to the black dog. Tybalt and his mini had disappeared into the coffee shop and where quickly back with paper towels. Tahki had already started cleaning with a hand full of napkins when Tybalt had reappeared with the coffee.
"Whoah your good!" She pointed to the cup, "Thats just what I wanted." A smile appeared on her face. As quickly as she could, the gryphon tossed the used napkins in the nearest trash can as if she was playing basket ball. Most of them made it in.

Tybalt had snorted in amusement at her comment. Though he wondered if a trip to that horrid Christmas town would improve the waitresses personality, or make her far worse than it already was. He was sure it was the latter. He honestly could not see any 'joy' of being in that land. At least for their kind anyways. It was an awful place.
He shrugged, though he did smile and his tail wagged slightly at her praise. "Guess I was just lucky they remembered your last order." He said honestly, though his smile remained and only grew wider when not all the paper towels successfully made it into the waste bin. He'd leave those for the cranky waitress.
"Come on, I think we should go before the 'that' returns." He said, jabbing his thumb over his shoulder in the direction of the waitress, who was thankfully, out of ear reach. Unless of course she was a creature with acute hearing.
"Where about did you say this shop was?" He asked curiously. glancing up and down both sides of the street.

Tybalt did not have to really convince Tahki much more then he already had that it probably was in the best interest to quickly leave before the waitress came back. On a normal day the gryphon would have picked up the paper towels before leaving but the waitresses attitude made her leave them laying where they were.
"We should go this way," Tahki pointed left. "I think? I mean I'm pretty sure. Yeah its this way," She was only about sixty percent sure to be honest but who needed details? Tahki quickly grabbed the cup of coffee and started off toward where she pointed. The coffee could be sipped on the way over toward the store. The waitress had already ruined the little cafe atmosphere.
