Most of the day had been spent traveling, and as the day wore on Taiga called for a rest. A small camp had been chosen for the night, beneath the shade of a rock outcropping over a small dip on the earth. It was cool despite the warmth of the day, and water was not more than a couple minutes walk away. However food would not be as easy to find. Tai had suggested they go in search of something to eat, whether it be something small or otherwise, at least have something they could regain some energy from. He raised his nose and sniffed the air, something was nearby. Hopefully something they could eat. “Mana.” Taiga turned to look at her. We should find something to eat before resting for the night. I think I smell something nearby, we should check it out.”

Food did sound absolutely lovely. Again they had been walking for the entirety of the day and again Mana was exhausted as she was every day it seemed, but the rumble of her empty stomach pushed her. Her mouth moistened a bit just at the thought of a meal. The lioness nodded several times over, quickly moving up beside the larger of the two. “Right behind you.” It always was a bit of a treat to watch Taiga hunt, he was much better at it then she was. Though usually he didn’t take her with him due to her having little to no experience actually hunting anything more than a few types of birds, or possibly small lizards. Anything larger and that required planning and a huge amount of effort she usually failed at.

With Mana in tow he made his way towards the scent, coming to a sudden halt once the forms came in to view. They were still some distance away, and had not noticed them yet, but he could tell it was a small herd of something that was good enough to fill his stomach on that day. “Mana.” His voice was hushed, despite their distance from the prey. “You can help me with this one. You go right, get as close as you can without being seen. We’ll have to get one away from the rest, alright?” His gaze was ever focused on the food ahead, stomach growling impatiently. “Now, just try to be as quiet as possible.” His stomach managed to take control, and any further plan he may of had was pushed aside for now as he stalked away from the lioness, circling around away from her, and around the herd ahead, before he fell in to a crouch to move closer.

With a quick nod, she lowered herself to the ground. Of course she was nervous as sea blue eyes scanned the horizon, looking the herd over. Mana spotted one, quite possibly one of the oldest and sickest of the lot of impalas. Trying not to make a sound, she began to move, slowly at first but she got to a decent speed, causing the herd to stir and panic. That was until she tripped over the shell of a turtle that had been crossing her path, heading toward the bit of water that the impalas had been gathering around to drink from. Taiga had seemingly forgotten to explain anything to her and with no teaching in the ways of hunting, she was an absolutely failure at hunting even the typical small prey of regular lions.
A frown formed on her face as she looked up to see the herd receding into the distance, though her vision was already obscured by the dry grass. Though the pout was more from her own disappointment. The lioness smacked a pebble away from her body from a fit of frustration as she pushed herself up onto shaky legs, stumbling slightly as she did so.

Taiga lay crouched within some brush, his eyes focused on the group of Impala ahead. He was unsure where Mana had hidden herself, but hoped she was out of sight. He slunk slowly forward before laying his body back along the ground, eyes focused on one of the beasts in particular. It was the closest to them, a rather old and sickly looking one , but he wasn’t picky right now. Before he could make a move though movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention, and he turned to find Mana charging at the herd, only to go toppling over in her attempt.
As he pulled his attention from her he saw the impalas had departed, and were getting further away. With a low sigh he drug himself up to his feet and moved towards Mana, coming to a slow stop at her side as she herself stood back up. “Well we seem to have lost this meal, but there is surely something else around here.”

Mana was still frowning even after Taiga’s attempts to make it seem like it was alright. It wasn’t. She was a horrible hunter and showing that blatantly in front of him was quite possibly one of the worst experiences in her young life. “I doubt it. I probably scared whatever was around off.” With her falling and failure is what she wanted to add at the end but she kept quiet about that bit. “Maybe I should stick hunting for lizards...” She said with a dejected sigh as she knocked the same pebble once more.

“Well I’m sure you could catch lizards with the best of them, hmm? Now come on, there is surely something around here.” It was then his gaze fell upon something wiggling in the grass. An upended turtle lay there, attempting to right itself. “Well, we could always try to eat that, if nothing else. i’m sure turtles taste just as good as any impala.”

“I’m honestly not that hungry now,” That was a blunt lie on Mana’s part, but she just didn’t want to have anything to do with trying to catch or kill anything at this point and would rather try again in the morn perhaps. “Besides have you ever tried to crack a turtle shell? It’s not exactly the easiest thing to do. Just let the poor thing go.” Another sigh, but at least she was starting to get over it. A night’s rest should clear her right up and make her right as rain once again. “But if you want to try, be my guest. I think I'm going to sleep out the rest of this dusk and maybe try my hand at hunting lizards later this evening.”

Taiga poked the turtle with one paw before flipping it back over so that it could be on it's way. "Alright, well maybe a rest isn't such a bad idea. I'll keep watching for anything bigger than lizards though and try and bring something back later." He watched the turtle for a moment, which was still from hiding, before turning to head back towards their little camp. "Don't worry though, we'll get sometime in our bellies before we leave here. He flashed her a large smile.

Mana nodded despite herself. It was still embarassing and would remain so until she redeemed herself...somehow. The pale lioness made her way back, limping slightly at the tinge of pain in her back leg kept her from walking properly while her head was slightly lowered. Maybe later she would try again if they could find something else to hunt though she had nearly convinced herself that it would end just the same if not worse.
