Adalia couldn't really say that she'd ever been on a date before. She'd had a lot of guys attempt to ask her out, but the dark-skinned girl had always managed to slip away before they'd ever been able to pop the question – this time, however, she hadn't. This time the boy in question, Devlin, had gotten the opportunity to ask her out, and for once, Adalia had made no attempts to scurry off somewhere to hide. Quite honestly, she'd surprised herself by doing so – admittedly though, Devlin wasn't like a lot of the other guys that she'd met before. He was...different. Nice too, of course, but different. Perhaps that was why she was giving him the chance that she hadn't offered to anyone else.
Hopefully, she thought as she finished braiding her long black hair, it was wise judgment on her part. The young woman quickly gave herself one more quick look in the mirror before she scurried out into the living room, where the babysitter was already playing with Alice. The young teen, Sarah, would be staying with both the little shadow and Devlin's own son, Elijah, while the two of them went out. If all went well, Sarah wouldn't have too much trouble with either of the kids. “I gave you my phone number already in case you need to call us, right...?” Sarah looked over from where she was sitting on the floor with Alice, playing with her dolls, and nodded, giving Adalia a bright smile.
“Yup! Don't worry, Ms. Rogers – I'm sure that everything'll be fine!” The girl's confident beam helped to reassure Adalia, who nodded slightly in response. “You just make sure that you're all ready for when your date gets here.”
“Alright; thank you again, Sarah. I know this was short noticed...” Adalia glanced towards the clock and saw that the time read 5:56; they were supposed to leave for 6:00, so the young woman figured that Devlin would probably be arriving any second now. Again, she hoped that the evening would go well.

"Mine!" was the announcement Elijah gave as he and his father arrived at Adalia's apartment door. The infant was reaching for the doorknob excitedly. He wanted to see Adalia! He wanted to see Alice. He liked Alice. At least, he thought he liked Alice. "Mine, da?"
Devlin shook his head. "It's like this," he demonstrated, knocking at the door. Well, that was how Vate had instructed him anyway. The elf didn't see why he couldn't just open the door--but his cousin had told him humans found that very rude. He hoped he looked alright. Oh, he was worried. What did humans wear on these date things? He had chosen a nice dress shirt and some jeans in hopes it was what people wore on special occasions. He didn't know.
He knocked again, glancing at his watch. 5:57. He knew Vate said it was important to be 'fashionably late', but he preferred to be on time--exactly on time. "Adalia?" he asked through the door. "You ready to go?"

Adalia hurried over to answer the door as she heard the knock, followed by Devlin's voice on the other side of it. "Yes. I'm all ready." the young woman said softly as she opened the door. "Did you get over here alright...?" Alice leaped up from where she'd been sitting on the floor and scurried over as she heard the tell-tale sounds of Elijah's cooing, chirping in delight.
"Lice! Ali, ali li, lice!" She waved to Elijah from her spot next to the door and beamed, twirling on the spot after a moment. She was so excited! Not only was she going to get to play with the impling baby, she would also get to play with the new babysitter, Sarah! She seemed like she was a lot of fun! "Lice!" The little shadow girl giggled, watching as Adalia moved aside to let Devlin in.
"Devlin, this is Sarah. She'll be watching Alice and Elijah tonight." The young teenager stepped up as Adalia introduced her, smiling at the man.
"It's nice to meet you, Mr. Veri." she said before turning her gaze towards the child in his arms. "And this must be Elijah! You're just as cute as Alice is!" She cooed at the baby for a moment and giggled. "If you're both ready to get going, I'll take both of them - don't worry, I'll take good care of them while you're gone!"

"Got lost a few times," Devlin admitted apologetically. He hadn't meant to get lost, but apartments were so big, and even if Adalia had given him the number, how was he supposed to know he was supposed to look for it on the door? At least he had started early, so he had still arrived on time. Being on time was important. "But I got here alright."
Elijah waved back, cooing merrily. He would play with Alice today! This was exciting! And there was a new person, too! He waved at Sarah, wondering if they would all play together.
"Hello, Sarah," Devlin was a bit cautious about leaving his baby with someone he didn't know, but Adalia seemed to trust her. He nodded. "Nice to meet you." He smiled, and looked down at the baby in his arms. "Yes, this is Elijah," he said. "You'll be good for Sarah, won't you, Jah?"
The infant gurgled in response, reaching for Sarah. He wanted to be held by the happy person!

"Oh, I'm sure we'll have a great time!" Sarah grinned, moving to lift the baby from Devlin's arms as he reached for her. "Won't we, little one?" She giggled a bit, cooing at the child before tickling his belly. After a moment, she lifted her head up again, grinning at Adalia and Devlin. "You two should probably get going - you don't want to be late! Go, go, everything'll be fine!"
Adalia blushed slightly as the babysitter shooed her and Devlin out the door, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she heard the door behind them shut. "Ah...s-so..." She smiled to her date shyly, trying to muster up the courage to actually make eye contact with him. "S...Shall we get going...?" She wished that she weren't so painfully shy - she couldn't help it though. She was still getting used to spending time with a man so casually.
Back in the apartment, Alice chirped, towing Sarah over to the middle of the living room to where her toys were currently piled. "Lice! Ali li, lice, Alice!" There were dolls, blocks and the like there, and it was clear that she wanted to play with Sarah and Elijah. Her babysitter laughed, taking a seat on the rug next to the little shadow before shifting Elijah down into her lap.
"Well Elijah, I think Alice wants to play with us - does that sound fun to you?" So far, it seemed that this job would be easy enough - heck, it might even be fun, provided that the kids stayed in a good mood.
