My brother has asked me to put together a list of death&black metal bands for him, and i'm looking for some new ones other than:
Cradle of Filth, Arch Enemy, Deicide, Burzum, Cannibal Corpse and Children of Bodom.
Since that isn't very many, I'd be glad for any names you can give me.

Ok, first of all. CoF & CoB are neither Black or Death Metal. And Arch Enemy is Melodic Death/Gothenburg.

Ok now to the bands who are Death/Black and damn good ones!

Nile, Immortal, Hour of Penance, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Satyricon, Grave, Dismember, Vital Remains, Catamenia (Ok they are Melodic Black, but still!), Beneath The Massacre, Behemoth...

Try God Forbid, The Haunted and It Dies Today (their really good but theyre actually metalcore)

Dungortheb, Bloodbath, Hypocrisy.

three of my favorite death metal bands right now.

Old Man's Child, Emporer, The Black Dahlia Murder.

TBDM isn't really black metal... but damn close. i like to call it American Grindcore/Death/Black/Thrash Metal.

Well, you can try these band too, I saw people posted some that I was already thinking, and there's some like Dying Fetus, that are inbetweeners cuz they have the core element to them too... But nevertheless try these too, they're really good!

Dimmu Borgir (one of the more know bands out there, they fall unto Black Metal, or so im told, they have the melodic element once in a while)
Carpathian Forest (straight out Black Metal, im not really sure if they have the melodic element on them cuz its been a long azz time since ive heard them...)
Marduk(Black Metal, a lot of people have heard of em too, but not as much as Dimmu Borgir would be.)
Mortician(These boys are DeathGrind, youre gonna hear a LOT of gain on these guys, they're a sure sound system blaster!)
Regurgitate( along the lines of Death and something else, perhaps grind. If you've ever thought that Scope would be an excellent tool in the making of Death Metal, rinse these guys out. It'll leave your ears minty deaf!)
Hope this helps you out... Bye and G/L! m/ twisted m/

Holy ******** this thread is s**t:

CoF, AA, CoB, God Forbid, The Haunted, It Dies Today, Hypocrisy (with the exception of the first two albums), OMC, DBM, Dimmu Borgir (with the exception of the first two albums), Marduk....NONE of this s**t is death metal or black metal.

For death metal try:

Amorphis -- The Karelian Isthmus
Arghoslent -- Incorrigible Bigotry
At The Gates -- The Red In The Sky Is Ours
Darkthrone -- Soulside Journey
Entombed -- Left Hand Path, Clandestine
The Chasm -- Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph, Conjuration of the Spectral Empire (he should probably try that first)
Eucharist -- A Velvet Creation
Immolation -- Close To A World Below
Morbid Angel -- Altars of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick, Covenant
Necrophobic -- The Nocturnal Silence
Therion -- Beyond Sanctorum

Black Metal:

Aeternus -- Beyond The Wandering Moon
Burzum -- Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, Filosofem (if he hasn't heard those two)
Bathory -- Under The Sign: The Sign of the Black Mark
Beherit -- Drawing Down The Moon
Blut Aus Nord -- Ultima Thulee, Memoria Vetusta I - Fathers of the Icy Age, The Work Which Transforms God
Countess -- Heilig Vuur
Darkthrone -- A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under A Funeral Moon, Transilvanian Hunger
Destroyer 666 -- Unchain the Wolves
Dimmu Borgir -- For All Tid, Stormblast
Drudkh -- Forgotten Legends, Autumn Aurora, The Swan Road
Enslaved -- Vikingligr Veldi
Fullmoon -- United Aryan Evil
Graveland -- Thousand Swords
Hellhammer -- Apocalyptic Raids (EXCELLENT first wave BM)
Immortal -- Pure Holocaust
Mayhem -- De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Megiddo -- The Devil and the Whore
Misantropical Painforest -- Winds Saturate With Inhuman Longing
Moonblood -- Blut Und Krieg
Nokturnal Mortum -- Goat Horns
Summoning -- Dol Guldur
Xasthur -- A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors

Note that I've avoided the best of death metal (in most cases) and went for stuff he could probably handle, instead. I gave no such mercy when it came to black metal.

I've only heard Australian and Anti-Christ off of that album. It's a pretty good song too.
