::As the blue and yellow zoid drifted effortlessly across the barren wastes of the desert, Ryojin Toyotomi's emerald gems glanced nonchalantly out of the command deck's large glass window over the gloomy expanse of sand. Sighing the team's captain leaned back into the comfortable seat, twisting off the cap of his bottled water to take a sip. The Hover Cargo was en route to the large metropolis found on the other side of the extremely barren and harsh desert. Team Chronos who consisted of Ven Reiger, pilot of the Rainbow Jerk, Devi pilot of a Shield Liger, and Ryo the pilot of the newly repaired and painted Shadow Fox. All three zoids were in safe keeping inside of the cargo, while the pilots leasurly roamed among the command deck and their quarters, which consisted of a bed, a closet, a desk, and a dresser each fitted out with their own lighting.::

::As Ryo flipped a few switches and grabbed the controls of the Hover Cargo, he smirked. It was nothing like his Shadow Fox. The controls were very lucid and somewhat lethargic in response, not anything like the sharp and agressive maneuvering of the Fox. Nonetheless, the team did not need a death machine to transport their zoids from town to town all they needed was something sturdy and dependable. While the team could have chosen a Whale King, it was simply overkill. There was no way they would be able to use the zoid's ability to carry 25 of its smaller brethren. The Hover Cargo was perfect.::

::Leaning back into his seat he glanced over to the radar as it audibly panged twice every few seconds. Noticing no disturbances there, he smiled to hismelf confidently. Flipping the autopilot back on, he stood up and roamed away from the command deck of the zoid, glancing down the hall where his teammates presumably were. He stood there momentarily and pursed his lips. Turning back around, water bottle in hand he sat back down in the middle of the two seats of the command deck. Glancing down once again at the radar of the Hover Cargo. This time however there was a small dot. Narrowing his emerald eyes, he grabbed the mic and switched it over to the intercom of the zoid. Sighing, he pushed the button to activate the mic and began speaking in a very informative and authoritative tone, in total sarcasm.::

This is your captain speaking, I would just like to inform the crew that there is some activity on the board. It seems that we have some company. It would be wonderful if my team members would join me on the deck. Thank you.

::Chuckling he ended the transmission and sat back sipping the water, pondering on the approaching dot on the radar. Shrugging he'd wait til his teammates popped in before making any decisive actions. In the end it would probably be nothing but another transport zoid. If so, at most all he could expect would be a small skirmish. Smiling he nodded satisfied. He was ready for another fight. After ending the fight with Ven, he was on edge. Even though he had held himself back from using the strike laser claw on Ven's Jerk, he still had the urge to use it on someone else. Grinning he bit his lip deviously taking another swig of the water.::

Devi had been exploring the intricate workings that were the interior of the Hover Cargo. Her own room with almost everthing she needed. Better than the tiny hotels that she sometimes stayed in. Less noise from upstairs, but definatly more from below. But that wouldn't be a problem, since she could sleep where she felt like, no matter what the conditions. A few bumps here and there came from the rocks that the huge machine crunched over, but that was really all.

Suddenly, Ryo's voice came over the intercom that was wired throughout the halls and rooms. It was a suprise, and a definite change from the rumbling. He was obviously trying not to act shocked, but maybe he really should have been. Not many people went this far into the desert without a Zoid, whether it was a normal one or a transport. But really, she didn't care. Shield Liger was prepared and just itching to battle anyway. It hadn't seen any action for a while, and they were both getting a little anxious.

"This could be interesting..."

She went through the halls at a quick pace, maneuvering herself so that she would end up at the source of the transmission. Ryo would be there, and hopefully, Ven would be as well. Company, whether in a fight or in a calm situation, meant something was going to happen. Something that would possibly be more amusing than sitting in her room looking at magazines and watching T.V. Of course, there had been a few news reports about Zoid battles, but they were all coming in from the other side of the desert. The one they were closing in on. When she had finally reached her destination, the doors flung open. Automatic doors. Awesome. Her own room had normal doors, but she had requested for those.

"Ryo... This thing is gigantic."

Her feet carried her to the radar, where she began to look at the blip. The tiny dot didn't seem that frightening. Though what it represented could mean a lot more than a speck on a screen. It seemed there was only one of them, but who really knew if more would be coming or not. The more, the merrier.

::Smiling as he swiveled in his seat he stood up walking over to Devi. He looked at the closing in blip and put his hands on his waist. Ryo had never been one to really be on a team, but he never obliged to it. He knew very well that to survive and progress in the modern world, you needed a team. The responsiblity of being the team captain never really donned on him. He assumed the position after the battle with Ven, and Ven didn't seem to mind. Chuckling he gazed at the blip for a lingering moment, noticing its closing distance between the two.::

Well we do kind of need to keep the zoids somewhere right? Might as well go for the full nine yards. Now wheres that Jerk pilot of ours.

::If Ven had been around, he would have probably sent him on a scouting trip to see what in fact was gaining on the team. Clenching his jaw he'd have to wait it out. If something did happen, it'd just be him and Devi. Which would work, but most likely they'd be outnumbered, as teams consisted of usually at least three. Sighing he crossed his arms as he leaned against the thick glass of the command deck's full window. Nothing but dust and sand surrounded them as far as his eyes could see, all they landed upon were the biege dunes. Glancing back over to Devi he made a wry smile.::

Well I suppose we could just wait it out. My plan was to get Ven to scout it out. But since he isn't present at the moment I'm afraid our only option is to wait.

::Sighing he glanced back outisde when his dazing was interupted by an alarming bell, sounding from the comlink. Turning towards Devi he gave her a look of curiosity before shrugging and turning the device on. A sinister voice poured out from the command deck's speakers.::

Attention passengers of the Hover Cargo. This is Lietenant Ninai of the Backdraft Group. Stop your zoid at once and allow us to inspect your transport. Any resistance will result in attack. I repeat...

::The lieutenant began his sentence but Ryo flipped off the comlink chuckling. Now he knew what his options were. Sighing he made a few coordinate changes and the Hover Cargo pulled over slightly, the dot on the radar moving further left. The transport zoid slowed down and finally stopped. Flipping a few more switches a door just off to the left opened up and the entrance to the zoids hanger opened. Grinning at Devi his eyes gleamed with passion.::

Inspection my a**. You ready?
PostPosted: Sun Feb 26, 2006 4:32 pm

Devi watched the tiny blip and the comlink quietly. She didn't care about some man who said he was a lietenant. Whether or not he was one didn't matter either. She wouldn't be scared of anyone, even if they could say that she if she was killed or not. She'd fight them to her heart's content, as long as it meant that she didn't have to put up with their rambling. And at the moment, she might have had to if Ryo hadn't turned it off. She would have done it herself if he hadn't.

"Looks like we might have to cause a little 'problem' to distract Mister Ninai. It was getting a little quiet around here."

She chuckled. The 'distraction' might just cure her temporary boredom. If this guy was going to try and steal something, they might as well not listen to a word he said. And what fun would it be if they just peacefully went through the desert? It'd be just as bad as if they just kept battling all the way through.

She walked towards the door, and towards the place where her Shield Liger was being stored. A little help for what she was planning to do would definatly be appreciated. She didn't need it, but it would help, and after all, they were supposed to be a team. They were supposed to work together, and they were all in the same boat. Kind of. She had her hands in her pockets now, and turned to Ryo again with a smile. She was smiling kindly, but she was planning something that she really shouldn't have been smiling about. At least it wasn't boring.

"You want to come?"

::He laughed for a moment as he shook his head playfully while toying with a few controls. A moment later, an audible thud was heard and the Hover Cargo shook for a moment. The engagement of the anchors would ensure that the thing stayed in place. Just in case. Smirking his emerald eyes gleamed brightly as he walked over to the girl patting her on the back.::

What do you think I am? Crazy? Of course I'm coming with you. I wouldn't pass up a chance like this. I take all opportunities to obliterate members of the Backdraft Group.

::He playfully pushed her as he walked by the girl trotting into the large hull of the Hover Cargo. To the left was the Shield Liger, and off to the right was his Shadow Fox. Both zoids lay dormant along with the Rainbow Jerk. Grinning he turned his head back to Devi and threw his head in the direction of the zoids. Climbing up to the cockpit of the Fox he punched in his passcode and the beast came to life. Lights and screens flickering in an electrical salutation. Grinning as the Fox gave a light yip. He flipped a few more switches and punched in a few more buttons. The Cargo released the zoid from its restraints. The floor underneath the zoid turned slowly, ending its rotation towards the magnetic launch rail. Grinning he gripped the controls. Giving a wave to Devi and the Shield Liger he shoved the controls forward. The G forces pushed him back into the seat as the Fox accelerated at an amazing rate, pushing it to its top speed of 290 kilometers per hour. The Fox shook and vibrated as its allow claws capable of charging dragged along the rail. The Fox was pushed off the rail, and it glided momentarily in the air before gravity took its toll. The Fox hit the desert sand running, barking loudly. Turning sharply, Ryo took notice of his surroundings the Hover Cargo a few kilometers off to his left and the approaching Whale King just in front of him. Pulling the controls back, the Fox came to a stop. Flipping some more switches over head in the cockpit, Ryo engaged the optical camoflage, his Fox dissapearing seamlessly into the desert as if a mirage. Gritting his teeth he had no clue of how many zoids or pilots were on that transport. Looking back off to his left he pursed his lips hoping that Devi would hurry up.::

Devi's eyes watched Ryo's quick movements. He was always the first off. She sighed deeply before running towards the Shield Liger. It might be the only breath that she would be able to take until this thing was cleared up. The Backdraft Group... She had never really heard of them, but she didn't really pay attention to Zoid teams. She just watched the fights. Half the time she'd be saying to herself: "I could probably do better than those sissies." Of course, that type of comment got her kicked out of a couple of places.

Shield Liger was ready for her before she even got near it. It's head tilted slowly down, preparing for its pilot to enter. Finally, a battle. It had waited too long for this. Devi was in the cockpit in a heartbeat, already messing with the controls. They beeped to life the instant she activated them. It was nice to feel control at her fingertips again. Anytime she wanted, Shield Liger was ready. And she was prepared now. Her hands gripped the two main controls -the ones that moved Shield Liger's limbs- and pushed them in such a way that they made the Zoid burst back to life. All the gears were turning, ready for another fight. Life was all around her, even if it was mechanical life. It was what she dreamed about. This was her fantasy, and her dreams were coming true almost every day. She loved it. The power, the amazement, and the feeling of being able to do nearly anything. She was like a little kid in the candy store everytime she got in that tiny area that was her cockpit.

"Launching Shield Liger!"

She really didn't need to say that she was out of there. Shield Liger was already bursting out of one of the Hover Cargo's Zoid launch pads. All the weapons, all the limbs, everything was responsive and online. Perfect. So far, all the repairs were perfect.

::The Shadow Fox prowled the desert dunes in complete invisibility. The optical camoflage along with the recently enabled anti-detection scrubbers made him practically impossible to track. The emerald eyes of the pilot scanned each screen glancing from time to time out the main window at the advancing Whale King. Frowning he looked back to the multi-sensor and noticed three more incoming zoids, with the Whale King coming to a stop. A flash of blue caught his attention from the peripheral. Devi's Liger was in full glide, gracefully lingering in the air as gravity seemed to forget to take its hold on the zoid. Chuckling he watched the blue liger fall closer and closer to the desert floor. Turning his com-link on he addresed the approaching Devi on their private Chronos channel.::

Seems to me that we have 3 incoming zoids. See if you can distract them for a bit while I bring the Fox up from the back. From there its fire at will. Hope to see you and the Liger in good shape afterwards.

::Smiling from his concealed cokcpit, Ryo reared way off to the left of the Hover Cargo, attempting to get as far away from the other incoming zoids. Opening up the multi-sensor once again he listened in on the incoming pilots.::

...seems to me that we might get somethin' out of this one boys. Keep your wits about you nonetheless.

::No doubt it was Ninai from the transmission earlier. The other two voices seemed unfamiliar yet all the more unintelligent.::

...aye Lieutenant. Suppose what do you think if they fight back?

::The transmission crackled momentarily as a third pilot spoke up. This one a female.::

Don't be ridiculous even if they were pilots they are nothing compared to us.

Shut up the two of you. End your chatter and lets get back to bussiness.

::Ryo almost broke out laughing, but stifled his cries with some excellent will power. Subduing any thoughts of humor, he had his plan all worked out as long as Devi gave him enough time he could do this perfectly. The Backdraft pilots were inexperienced, their commanding officer was only a lietenant. He brought the Fox around and slowed his full sprint at 290 km/h to a fast trot of 200 km/h. He did not need to outrun the Black Rhimos in the lead. The two following zoids included a Gun Sniper as well as a Zeek Dober. This was going to be smooth as long as everything went as planned. Ryo was certain of that, as his wry smile turned into a sadistic grin as he closed in on the back of the three zoids.::

((Got permission from Kenji. *Nods*))

A figure stood atop the head of the glistening Breaker, scarf wavering in the wind. This specatator wore a blue helmet and was pressing the right index finger on the side of the right earpiece, zooming in with the built in scope. Her target, Ryojin Toyotomi. A red circle infront of her eyes focused on a Shadow Fox.

Funny.. that name sounds familiar... 'She' shrugged off the thought, no, not just 'she', but the Crystal Comet did.

She changed her focus to the opponents of Mr. Toyotomi, a Black Rhimos, a Gun Sniper, and a Zeek Dober. Debating on whether to interfere now or hold her ground and watch her target's move.

The Crystal Comet switches her scope over to the Shield Liger that launched out recently, Team members... this may be hard... but I could just say I'm only challenging him.

Devi laughed again. Three Zoids. Just enough to keep her occupied for a while. She'd have to make sure she didn't damage the Hover Cargo, or made sure that they didn't. They wouldn't be too much of a problem. After all, Shield Liger could probably outrun them any day. All Devi had to do was time it right.

"I think I'll manage."

Shield Liger started running at the other Zoids from an angle. Gunsniper was better at shooting targets that were in front of it, so as long as she kept moving, she'd be safe from it. The Zeek Dober would be a problem though. It could move faster than the Shield Liger, though her Zoid was more powerful. She just needed to distract them long enough for Ryo and the Shadow Fox. Liger could keep it up for a while. Thank god for repairs. She prepared the Shock Cannon for a first strike. She flipped on the com-link that would go through to everyone.

"Hiya boys!"

She said it as annoying as she possibly could. She had to mock them before she blew their Zoids up. They probably wouldn't get a good shot at her if she managed to damage their Zoids enough. Anything to help, because Ven might actually come out of the Hover Cargo at any second. Milli-seconds after she opened the link, she closed it, and sent a shot right at the three sitting ducks.

: biggrin evi's idea of the plan may have been slightly different, but it worked out to Ryo's advantage. While the Gun Sniper escaped unscathed from the shot peeling off to the left, the Gun Rhimos was not quite so lucky. The heavier more cumbersome of the three zoids got hit on the left back leg, sending the zoid into a limping sprint after the blast. The Zeek Dober, the quicket of the three dodged her shot with ease, running full ahead into Ryo. Grinning, he turned off the optical camo to reveal the Fox's already charged Strike Laser Claw. It was way too late for the Dober as the Fox darted into the air, paw pulled back. Trying to pull out, the Dober's pilot grimaced as impact was made. Metal was cut through and through, leaving the Dober without a leg, as the slash went through the zoids right shoulder. Chuckling, Ryo darted away, engaging the leg anchors and spinning the Vulcan around, two shots penetrated the Dober's Photons, rendering the zoids main weapon's useless. A moment later he came down upon the zoid, using his uncharged claws to shred the remaining 30mm pulses. Grinning, Ryo slammed the controls back, the Fox dodging the Dober's snapping jaws with a graceful hop. Apparently Ryo had taken the female pilot down.::

You b*****d! You destroyed my beautiful Dober. You goddamn b*****d!

::Chuckling as he shut the girls channel off, he glanced upon his art for a moment, he was interrupted from his gaze as the Gun Sniper signature on the multi-sensor came closing in on him. Sighing, Ryo pushed the controls forward again when another "pang" sounded on the multi-sensor. A fourth zoid was on the premises. Narrowing his eyes at the sensor as he began his retreat, it was rougly 8 kilometers away from the action. Quite a noticeable distance to be an ally of the Backdraft pilots. Shrugging he needed to take care of the matter at hand. In doing so his thinking had almost gotten him killed. Just as he looked up, he caught something out of the corner of his eyes. Ryo's mouth uttered morter, but he did not say it. Clenching his jaw, he jumped the Fox as far right as he could and then engaged the leg anchors upon landing. The explosion from the Gun Sniper's morter shot barely grazing the side of the Fox's armor, no severe damage taken. Sighing he disengaged the leg anchors and brought the Fox up to a full sprint, hoping that Devi would soon join in.::

Her smile shown clear on the uncovered portion of her mask, to anyone close enough to see it. Watching her target take down the Zeek Dober showed her that she was in for it. Cringing slightly while she watched the Shadow Fox rip through the Dober's armnaments.

Well, it's what I should expect from a listed mercenary for the Republic... Her focus drifted from Toyotomi and onto the Gunsniper. One left.. might as well. And with that the Crystal Comet dropped down from the head and into the cockpit in the chest. The hatch closed and she was greeted by the flickering on of the screen.

She positioned her Crystal Breaker, putting the Gunsniper into her general path. With a quick glance down at her radar, Around 8 kilos... and a hand resting on the thrusters... she moved her Breaker forward and over the cliff ledge, then quickly pushed forward on the handle and a burst of light and power erupted from the Breaker's feet turning the decent from the cliff from a power fall to a swooping dive that quickly pushed the blue Breaker forward and towards her target.

The Crystal Comet quickly prepared the particle cannon and aimed it at the upcoming, distracted Gunsniper. She pulled back on the thrusters and the Breaker flew a bit forward due to momentum before grinding to a halt from deployed anchors. Before stopping completely, the vents on the Breaker all opened up as the jaws of the azure machine opened up and discharged a powerful particle blast at the Gunsniper.

Devi was still smiling. At the moment, the Backdraft Group was on the run. Shield Liger was now ready to pounce on the Gun Rhimos. Ryo seemed to be taking care of the Zeek Dober -which was actually better for Devi. Her Zoid was high-speed, but didn't match the Dober. Sheild Liger's paws were pounding against the ground as it pushed off. The Rhimos was a slower Zoid, so she didn't push Shield Liger all the way. This battle seemed to be going by quickly...

Ryo had pretty much taken care of the Dober by now, all she had to do was worry about the Rhimos and after, the Gunsniper. Well, hopefully the Gunsniper couldn't do much to them before they had a chance to shut it down. It could be a prolem unless they kept moving around and stayed away from it for a while. It didn't have many shots. Well, she hoped so anyway.

Her hand moved towards the control of the Laser Claws. The Rhimos was already damaged, probably almost ready to collapse. She would end it without giving them a chance to strike back. Who knew how many Zoids the Backdraft Group might have hidden in that Whale King. Her hand was just about to activate the energy boost to the claws when a particle cannon fired. That couldn't possibly be Ryo. The Jerk didn't have a particle cannon either, not to her knowledge.

So who was helping them?

::Ryo's hands seemed moisten minute by minute as he continuosly dodged the morter fire from the Gun Snipe. The insignificant pilot had no merit to be battling Ryo. Grinning he slammed on the right hind leg anchor, causing the Fox to spin lightly in its tracks 180 degrees. Disengaging the useful tool, he began to sprint the Fox full speed at the still shelling Gun Sniper. Something out of the corner of his eye persuaded him to pull back once again. Ryo knew that color. That sickening blue indigio reminiscent of the Death Saurer. The particle blast was avoided mostly due to Ryo's ability to get the Shadow Fox directly behind the targeted Gun Sniper. However, the next dodge was just short of impossible. There stood Ryo's Fox, in seemingly slowed down time, with the hulking mass of the Gun Sniper flying towards him. Gritting his teeth, he engaged the strike laser claws, dodged to the side and managed to knock off the incoming tail, leaving the already mauled zoid even more destroyed. Glaring out in the direction of the attack his eyes widened. It was a hybrid. No doubt about that, it seemed to be a Crystal Saurer, Geno Breaker mix.::

Holy. Crap. Devi, I'd suggest taking care of that Black Rhimos ASAP. We have a new problem here...

::The hybrid zoid was flying down the dune in their direct direction. Ryo clasped the controls for dear life. He began starting out in the other direction, sprinting to his full 290 km/h, the Shadow Fox relatively unharmed at the moment. Clenching his teeth he engaged the optical camoflage, once again the Fox dissapearing in the biege sea of sand. Slamming on the leg anchors he hoped that the zoid would lose the Fox in the mirage of the desert, along with some help from the Fox's stealthy components.::

The Breaker was at a complete halt as the Crystal Comet watched the Gun Sniper fly. Now where did... oh... Smiling, she watched the Shadow Fox pop out from behind the Gun Sniper and was slightly surprised she almost hit it. She was about to open an audio only com link when the Fox ran off and disappeared into the dunes.

"Dammit! Toyotomi ran off!" The Crystal Comet would stay calm as she resisted to slam her fist into the dashboard.

I could make a broadcast... then again, I could alert the Shield Liger I saw... Her gloved finger hovered above the switch, debating as she looked down at the radar. Stupid... stealthy... fox... She flipped the switch for the audio broadcast and cleared her throat, "Attention Ryojin Toyotomi," her voice echoed and was carried quite far across the dunes, "I hereby challenge you to a Sanctioned battle. Battle mode 0992. A clean one-on-one fight. Do you accept Mr. Toyotomi?" She paused to wait for his answer. Her Crystal Breaker was looking around, grumbling lowly at the annoyance of disappearing prey.

Devi's attention was diverted by the blast. Her hand flew off the Laser Claws controls and soared to the Energy Shield's. It was an instinct by now. Loud noise plus blast equals almost instant activation of the Shield. The Zoid training had drilled that into her mind. She was just about to activate them before she realized that she was far out of range. A blast of that magnitude.... It managed to nearly crush the Gunsniper completely. The cannon had to have a hell of a recoil.

With those few seconds, the pilot of the Black Rhimos saw an opening. He moved the head down quickly, preparing to drill into the distracted Liger. The man -probably the lietenant- now had a smirk on his face. His hands were shaking with anxiety. He had a small window in which he could win, and it was now. With a quick twitch of his hand, the drill started up. It went slowly at first, but soon it was spinning rapidly. Once at a decent speed, the Rhimos charged forward. Shield Liger was standing like a sitting duck.

Devi nodded as Team Chronos's leader gave her her first in-battle order. It felt strange to be taking orders.S he nodded silently before the com-link was broken. She turned back to her opponent. He was charging now. Someone stuck between a rock and a hard place. He really had no choice, but she was still suprised. She thrust her hands back onto the leg controls, turning to her left. The horn only managed to skim the back leg. If that horn hit at the right place... Shield Liger wouldn't be getting up anytime soon. She cursed under her breath and slammed the controls to a stop. The Rhimos was still limping towards her, its wound helping her out more than she thought. Her left hand moved to the Laser Claws again, but she didn't wait this time. The Claws were charging before the Rhimos even turned. By the time the limping Zoid came within range to hit her, Devi and the Liger were already prepared. The Liger's front right paw lifted to the air, and went straight at the drilling horn.

When the two Zoids collided, there was a noise loud enough so that anyone outside of a Zoid would probably be deafened. Metal on metal, scraping against each other. The paw pushed down on the horn, which was still trying to drill. It was failing miserably. Devi moved the controls again, and the paw swiped. The horn was broken off in an instant, much like a toothpick. The left paw came up as the right hit the ground, and smashed right into the Rhimos's front right. This time, the claws left the Rhimos completely helpless. It collapsed, having already had about half of the power in its left leg gone. It's horn was on the ground, disgarded and almost completely useless. Devi had won against the Rhimos, but now Ryo had another battle waiting.
