Sam was out in his backyard. Technically, he was trying to train himself. What the boy was up to was jumping up around in his own little yard, dodging around obstacles like his mother’s potted plants and the patio furniture set. The only problem was that his backyard was long and narrow. Typical brownstone yard, it didn’t have that much space. There was enough for a one on one game of soccer, but his yard was much smaller than most kids’. It got boring fairly quickly.
Now, the dark haired kid had resorted to target practice. Armed with a super soaker, Sam was taking aim at the plants. His mother didn’t mind if Sam ‘helped water’ them. Jumping up on to the seat of a patio chair, Sam surveyed the area.
A new target had just appeared and caught his interest. From his position he could see over the fence and saw his neighbor come out of her house. Perfect. Without warning, Sam shot at her with his water gun.

Sam must've had a death wish. He had to of pulled something that ballsy.
Needless to say, Talia was absolutely pissed. She had been multitasking at the time, like usual. Shoulder bag on her left shoulder, coffee in her left hand, cell phone squished in between her ear and her right shoulder, and her right hand digging through her shoulder bag. She was quite the sight. She had planned on visiting the book store today to pick up some books for summer reading, so she had actually dressed somewhat casually (casual for Talia anyways).
But no. Some twerp had decided to spray her down with water. She thanked God it was just some little kid, because she was in a white shirt, and it wasn't exactly opaque. Her phone clattered to the ground, and she dropped her coffee out of surprise.
Obviously, Talia was pretty much in a rage.
Black, now drenched, curls whipped around as Talia set eyes on her target. What she would give to just go all Draconis on this kid's a**. Talia's eyes were like daggers as she shouted, "SAM WHAT THE ********>" She didn't even care that he was like 11 at this point. Whoever brought him up needed a serious smack.
Sam. The stupid kid from the block that lived a few houses down. She hated this kid. Sure, he was cute and all, and Talia could actually withstand him at times, but he was literally the most obnoxious little boy on the face of the Earth when he wanted to be. Like right now. Talia seriously looked like she was about to choke a b***h.
Which quite frankly, she might've.

Sam ducked down when Talia screamed his name. He slid across the grass and hid behind the wood fencing, feeling that it would protect him, like a fort. If she couldn’t see him, there was no danger was there?
Instead of showing his face, Sam just called out back to her. “What? I didn’t do anything. It was rain. “ Right. Rain. Totally believable. Sam snickered a bit and between the slats of the fence, shot again at Talia. “It’s a refreshing sprinkle.”

Talia watched him duck down behind the fence, as if that could actually protect him from her rage. God, had she ever been this annoying as a kid? She certainly hoped not.
The good thing about the situation was that the kid was pretty darn stupid. At least from where Talia was standing. He had ducked down behind a fence that was two feet from a hose. Stupid, stupid, unfortunate kid. She almost pitied his misfortune.
Never one to back out on an opportunity, Talia crept along the wall, and quietly slid towards the green roll out hose that hung pathetically on the side of the wall. Did this hose even belong to her half of the brickstone? She wasn't really sure. All she was sure about was kicking this kid's a**.
She turned the knob slowly, the little pieces of dirt from old gardening endeavors sticking in between her fingers. It was gross, but she would feel so much satisfaction from this that it didn't matter. With a snicker, she put it on full blast and sprayed over the fence, right where Sam was sitting. "Oh you're right Sam, it does seem to be raining particularly hard today!" she cooed.
As the water continued to spray, her own body was already drying out from the scorching sun. Her hair would have to be redone, but at least her shirt wasn't quite so see-through anymore.

Talia had gone out of his sight, and he didn’t hear her step towards the hose or her creeping back with the green plastic hose snaking behind her. It wasn’t until water was pouring straight onto him that he knew what was going on. Oh, it was ON now.
Sam wasn’t nearly as upset about the onslaught of water as Talia was. He was infact, much the opposite. As an only child, he had no siblings to play with. The closest he had was Damon and Delphine, and well… he didn’t see much of them. At least not an approvable basis. So this is exactly the kind of thing he figured siblings did, and he liked it. Annoying the hell out of a someone and playing with water! It was the perfect way to spend a hot afternoon.
“Bring it Talia!” Sam jumped back up and shot at his neighbor again with his water gun. He had the biggest grin on his face.

And then Sam died. The end.
Well maybe not really. In fact, if you didn't know any better, the twosome could've looked like happy little siblings just sharing a summer moment together. Two older women in the neighborhood actually walked past them and giggled, obviously reminded of their own summer days of playing in the rivers and parks together.
Talia actually smiled now. She had already cast her belongings aside, clearly giving up on actually making it to the library or the bookstore any time soon. She pointed the hose at Sam and said, "Sam! Didn't your mother teach you any manners?"
A very ladylike thing to say when she was chasing him with a hose like a two year old herself. Talia had no siblings, not even a dog or cat to be amiable with. She had books. Miles and miles of books. This was actually rather entertaining, however awkward it would be for the two of them afterwards.

“She did,” Sam replies, and bent over in a bow. While bent he picked up a lonely garden pail that had been sitting by the fence. His mother had probably used it for holding tools or something earlier in the week and simply forgotten to bring it back inside. Dropping his water gun, Sam used the bucket as a shield, letting it fill up with water.
When it was decently somewhat full, Sam tossed its contents back at Talia. “She taught me ladies first.” He laughed, “First to get soaked anyways.” Laughing up a fit, Sam crashed onto the soft fluffy grass, perfectly pleased with himself

Talia winced as the cold water hit her in a wave instead of a small stream of water like previously. Okay that one actually hurt a little. Come to think of it, her mascara was running. Her shirt was still totally see through too, wasn't it.
All at once, realization hit her and she realized what she was doing. As Sam crashed onto the grass laughing to himself, Talia went and turned the hose off. Well this was incredibly awkward. Talia had no clue what to do with children.
Luckily, the saving sound of a bell began chiming out a familiar tune; The Entertainer. That sound in the summer time? It could only mean one thing ...
Ice cream!
Talia laughed to herself as she remembered summers past where she would race after the ice cream truck and beg her mother to buy her something (she always would). Pulling out her wallet, she handed it to Sam and said, "Go buy yourself something kid." As she sat down on the grass herself, she called out, "Get something for me too idiot!" He wouldn't run away with her wallet right?

“Thanks!” Taking her wallet, Sam rushed away towards the sound of the ice cream chime. It took roughly five minutes before he had come back. The song has caused the few children that there were in the neighborhood to rush out as well. A bit of a line had formed.
When Sam returned, he had two Klondike ice cream cone bars in his hand. Both were entirely chocolate, even the cone. Sam handed one off to Talia and unwrapped his. Then he happy ate away at it. Best surprise attack ever.

Talia awkwardly tousled his hair as he sat down. Siblings did that to each other right? This was weird. Weird weird weird.
As she sat and ate her ice cream, she was almost started by the realization of her age. She had told someone else to go get ice cream for her, and she was feeling like an older sister to this boy. When she was younger, she would've never allowed someone else to pick her ice cream, and she assumed everyone else was older than her.
Holy crap, she was a senior in high school, soon to leave her home and go to some college. Holy crap holy crap.
Feeling rather awkwardly sentimental, Talia abruptly stood up and finished up her ice cream. Brisquely, she said, "Well that was fun, let's do it again sometime," but her heart wasn't in it. She was too focused on the concept of growing up.
Talia nabbed the wallet from Sam's hand and said, "But next time, ask before you hit someone with water." She winked playfully and picked up her things, and then rushed off to her room to drag out all of her dolls and play with them one last time as a child.
