I'm currently running a linux box (Slackware 10.2) and wouldn't mind opening up a shell account or two for the guild to use, you would connect via Secure Shell (SSH). Currently have compiled in GCC (C and C++), along with PHP... Might venture into compiling in python and Perl, if any of you are interested in wandering around a linux environment and exploring programming on this platform, post here or e-mail me (sinlin@gmail.com), or catch me via IM.
If people are interested i'll explain how to compile programs using GCC and it's equivilant for compilling C++ programs (dont know the command off hand).

I prefer Windows.
While Linux is much more flexible, Windows is like a strong backbone. 3nodding

xD Windows, I only use for it's familiarity and applications. There's no way I'd want to leave Dreamweaver behind. xD I just love that program. And photoshop too. <3
Linux I'd like to use mainly for different programming things. n_n

They're just that though, an emulator. whee Things like WINE aren't emulators though, if you had that one in mind. xD That actually stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator. xD
I have a laptop and a desktop. I tried to change my desktop to Linux, but I wasn't able to find a driver for my wireless card that was linux compatible so that I could connect to my router. n_n;

*wanders in, salutes* This sounds like a cool thing. Prof. Meow Meow I have a Linux browser on my Xbox. Linux is an OS; there's no such thing as a linux browser. Prof. Meow Meow I prefer Windows.
While Linux is much more flexible, Windows is like a strong backbone. Ar, what do you mean by that?

As for the C++ compiler complement to gcc, it's g++. I switched to Debian from Windows (actually, I can still boot into Windows, but I never do anymore because I prefer Linux so much) a bit over a year ago, and I had to get my Microsoft MN-510 USB network adapter working. I ended up using ndiswrapper, a program that acts as a wrapper around the driver that was used on Windows. It works like a charm.

I have linux running on my server, and I like it. Though I would not use it for my laptop computer becaus it is just not good for portability and programs. I use Visual Studio 05, so I need XP
