►History◄
Asta was born in 1333, sixteen short years before the Black Death hit Norway. People around her were dropping dead, almost literally by the dozen. Her family retreated to her mother's home village, but the sickness followed them quickly. Astrid's family began to die, slowly and painfully as those who came down with the disease were prone to do. The young girl prayed to her gods, to any god that would listen, but no relief came. Her mother was the first to go, followed quickly by her youngest sister. It was only when her twin brother suddenly collapsed when she became desperate; in the middle of the night, she went out into the forest. She prayed, though to what she knew not; it was only when a strange woman appeared before her that she began to regret her actions.
This didn't stop her, however, from accepting the lady's hand when it was offered. She stayed on her knees before her, one arm extended up as the strange woman turned her palm over in her hand. The figure asked what she was willing to sacrifice for her brother's life. Asta, who loved her brother more than anything, offered herself and everything she had to whom she knew to be Hel, the goddess of the dead. Hel smiled, and while she was generally considered a merciful goddess, made the girl a deal. If Astrid were to walk to world for all time, and be Hel's eyes and ears in the human world, Hel would refuse her brother at her gates until he had lived a long life. Astrid accepted, and in return her brother was cured of his disease; Astrid took her only remaining family and fled civilization. They lived in the mountains for a time, Astrid carefully keeping her secret from the only person she had left. However, when she no longer aged, it became obvious that something was wrong. By this time, most of those infected had died, and the death rates had gone down. Astrid's brother returned to the village where their family had died, while she continued to wander the mountains. She felt not cold nor warm, forever in a neutral state.
She continued to wander the world, collecting records and information for her mistress. While the rest of the world moved on, towards monotheistic beliefs, Asta clung tightly to her goddess. She learned new languages as she went, aided by the gifts given to her by her goddess. While she carries a slight accent, her English is very good; she came to America early on, directed by her mistress to what would grow to be an important country. She wandered the country, traveling up through Canada to stay in Alaska for a few decades before eventually moving on. Astrid came to Reed's by command of her goddess, who wished to learn about the other supernatural beings that populated the school.

Asta has graduated high school and moved on to college. She is currently chasing after her Bachelor's degree in German, and intends to stay at the school as long as possible, even if she has to study for every degree they offer. The vampire has been seeing Fancy Alien Danny on occasion, and she still drinks from him when she needs to; she has become quite dependent on his blood supply, and has become quite attached. Whether or not these feelings are romantic, even she isn't sure.

►Grade Level◄
College Junior
►Personality◄
While she generally keeps to herself, Asta is far from a wallflower. She likes to be close by when the action happens, even if she doesn't contribute. She is an observer, one who is always watching and collecting new information. She reads constantly, but will immediately drop whatever she is doing if something catches her eye. She doesn't react easily, but becomes easily attached to other beings, if only for a short time. She is one who is quick to laugh, even at things that aren't necessarily funny, and enjoys nothing more than new information and being amused. Asta approaches the world from a logical point of view, and can be slow to pick up emotional hints.
