Nuala was bored...not just bored...but BORED out of her little mind. She'd fished, she'd swam, she'd woven more wreaths then she could wear or give away, she'd learned the new song Tam had taught her and she'd even trimmed and cleaned out the roses by the pool.
Idly tracing a paw in the water of said pool, watching the reflection of the roses wavier all kinds of ripply, Nuala blew air out her teeth. She didn't want to hunt, that was too sweaty, and Tam wasn't back to dance for or to tell her story....damn lion...he was never back when she needed him to be.
BORED!

It was not often that Kimya ventured quite this far from his new pack's home, or from Daktari's side. But he had been following a trail from close to where the pups had been kidnapped and it had led, in bits and pieces, all the way out here, to this strange forest-covered land. The trail had been a mix of strange scents and prints, neither of which he could make out but that he was determined to track down. The faintest glimmer of hope for finding his best friend's kids was to be seized with both paws and shaken until it had given up any secrets it may hold.
So far, he had been following the difficult path all day since before dawn, and he would soon need to stop to rest or he'd be food for the vultures out here. Lifting his black and grey head, crimson eyes roaming the area until he spotted a river. Suddenly realizing how thirsty he was, he left the tracks and trotted down tot he bank, dipping his head in grateful relief as the cool water soothed his parched throat.

Nuala lifted her head off her paws at the sound of someone approuching the river on the lee side of the bank. Her ears perked forward, maybe it was Tam? or Merah..or even someone new to play with? Happy at any of those thoughts she stood up and jumped into the trees, slipping along the branches till she was above the river, peering down at the new comer.
OH! It's a hyena! EEEEEEKKK! That was like finding out there was a giant spider on your tail or a huge pouch rat in your nesting bed. How absolutely disgusting, and worse...it was drinking out of the river. EWWWWWW!
Totally grossed out, the pale pink leopard jumped from one branch to the next till she reached her outcropping and the small arsenal of rocks she had stockpiled there for just this type of emergency. With her tongue sticking out and a less then skilled paw she lobbed the first one, sending it right at the hyena's feet, the missile landing with a loud thunk and a puff of dirt.

So absorbed in his thoughts was he that he didn't notice the pink puff of leopard until the rock landed next to his paw. Startled he jerked back, water dripping from his muzzle as he cast about for the intruder. Spotting the very pink feline he frowned a moment, before she reached for another rock and made to lob it his way.
Flattening his ears back he scrambled back up the bank, hackles rising along his spine despite himself. "Hey!" He barked, his normally husky, soft-spoken voice raised in clipped anger and confusion. "What are you doing?! I'm just drinking!" Backing up as the rock flew his way he watched it land to his other side, not much closer than the first. Well, at least she couldn't aim for beans... or he might have been brained by that first throw.

" You're slobbering in the river, getting your nasty hyena germs all IN it." Nuala hollered at him, another rock flying with as much success as the first two. " I have to swim and fish in there...now its all drooly. EWWWWW!" Another rock became airborne, this one hitting the water with a loud splash.
" Just you wait till Tam gets home! He'll make hyena pie out of you!" Two more rocks came in rapid succession, this time hitting way behind the hapless canine. " Not that we could eat it...EWWWWWWW hyena germs! EWWWWWWWWW!"
The leopardess was really working herself up, and the more excited she got, the more rocks got thrown, making a steady rain out them. Lucky for the hyena, the worse her aim got as well.

Kimya flinched at the ear-splitting cries the feline uttered, pining his delicate ears back against his head in an attempt to dull her shrieks. Ducking under a rock that sailed a little too close to his head for comfort, Kimya simply watched her silently, sending a silent 'thank you' to what ever god had given her such poor aim, even as he wondered which of them was responsible for her temper.
"You do know that not all hyenas are bad yes? Just like all leopards are not all pink. hating all of us because of a few is short-sighted." Sighing heavily as he sidestepped another badly thrown missile, he flicked his tail.

Nuala blinked at him, her paw stopping in mid-throw, the rock falling with a thump to the ground under her ledge, " You're not a germy, smelly, foul mouthed, poop eating hyena?" She asked, her voice uncertain, but oddly innocent and naive.
" You're not gonna chase me up a tree, call me names and tell me I'd make a nice cape for you to wear? and then dance around laughing like an idiot till I cry myself sick and Tam has to come and beat the laugh out of you making you bleed like a stuck wart hog?"

Kimya actually stared at her as she spoke, expression going from confused to horrified and finally utterly disgusted and a little sympathetic. "Of course not." He replied with a rather offended snort, ears pressed back against his head once again. "I am a hyena, but I am not smelly, foul mouthed or poop eating. And I certainly will not chase you or call you names." Lifting a lip in distaste as such an idea he flicked his tail against his flank as if trying to shake off the very image of a hyena behaving so appallingly.
"If that is the only hyena you have met, then you need to meet more of us that actually behave ourselves appropriately. Me and my... Daktari are warriors and have honor. As do many of the hyenas I know or have met. Yes, some are less than pleasant, but I have met leopards who scream and chase me with the intention of ripping my fur from my body, simply because I happen to be passing by."

" Or throw rocks at you...badly," Nuala said a little sheepishly as she climbed down from her outcropping, " I am sorry I called you poop eating, and smelly...and said you slobbered in the river and that you had germs."
She came to sit at the edge of the bank, curling her tail over he paws demurely, her green eyes showing how very sorry she was. There wasn't any way this feline could ever lie, her eyes really were a window to her soul. " Would you like something to eat? I have a meal stashed, well actually Tam has a meal stashed, but he always leaves enough for me to eat and anyone I bring home."
She wrinkled her nose at the hyena, " He says I like to bring home strays, and that one of these days I am gonna feed one and its not gonna leave."

Kimya had to smile a little at that and nodded in agreement. "But you didn't hit me so no harm, no foul." Seeing that she had calmed down, he let himself relax, hackles smoothing back into place as he reached over and knocked one of the closer rocks into the river.
He didn't exactly trust her, but he could tell she wasn't going to throw anything else at him, she was far too innocent and contrite for that. Her offer of a meal puzzled him and he tilted his head a little disbelievingly. "Well... I would be very grateful for something to eat. I haven;t had time to hunt for myself much of late...." He mused almost thoughtfully. Pausing he studied her a moment. "This Tam of yours wouldn't mind a hyena sharing his kill?" There was a slight smile to the male's muzzle as he asked, and the faintest of teasing glimmers in his gaze.
Her comment made him chuckle, a rare thing for the dark-coated hyenas these days, and it briefly lifted the blanket of weary sadness that seemed to perpetually cover him in an invisible shroud. "Well.. that is certainly a possibility.. but have no fear, I have a pack to go home to tonight."
After another moment of consideration the hyena male made his decision and neatly jumped the river that had separated them, though he paused a few feet downwater from her, not willing to get too close before he was sure she had settled and wouldn't chase him.

Nuala giggled into her paw, " Tam would like you, you're pretty and he likes pretty things. He'd let you stay for as long as you liked, a lot of different creatures come to our pool. Some like the roses, others just sorta wander in..."
She didn't mind that the hyena was keeping his distance, she supposed she would have too if he'd thrown rocks at her. Still she'd better warn him about the roses, " When you pass under the thicket, stay to the left, or the roses will stick ya."
The pink leopardess led him under the treeline, past some thick under growth, that began to be interwoven with thick vines with wicked looking thorns on them. Just when it seemed it would be choked off, the whole place opened into a deep, clear pool, surrounded by well tended, wild, white roses. some with blooms as big as Nuala's head.
" Here we go, home sweet home." She purred happily, leading the hyena toward the far end where meals were stored, " help yourself. There is plenty, and you can drink from the pool, just don't drool.." she added, clearly teasing.

One dark brow lifted at her comment. No one had ever called him pretty before and the idea of it being true amused him, though he didn't take it seriously. He had been called many things, spooky, dark, shadowy, creepy, even handsome once.. but never pretty, and he was more inclined to believe the common comment than a single apparently scatty pink leopardess. Still, she was almost charming in her own way and she clearly hadn't meant any real harm with those rocks, more of a case of misunderstanding he assumed.
"Well, thank you for the compliment." He replied, rather amused. Tilting his head at the warning he nodded, even if he didn't fully understand. he was not one to waste words on useless comments and he assumed all would be made clear soon enough. So, padding after her as she vanished into a thicket, he was careful to stay to the left as warned. And he was glad when he saw what was surrounding them as they moved deeper into the undergrowth.
Finally they emerged and he was grateful to be able to lift his head, bu then he froze on the spot, startled by the beauty of the little cave of plants. After a long moment of staring round, he finally padded after her belatedly, though his gaze was roaming the flowers with more than a little respect and awe for their size and the thorns they wielded. Catching up he just about caught her comment and chuckled softly. "I promise I wont drool... don't want to spread hyena germs..." He returned with a touch of old his humor in his voice, though it faded quickly. The hyena was certainly carrying some kind of heavy burden, as was obvious by the sadness deep in his red eyes and the torn, weathered look of his coat.
