It was simply another day for the red coated cheetah. Another day to attempt to increase his wealth in trinkets, shells, horns and what-nots. Another day to listen to his brother whine. That last bit was the whole reason he had wandered away from the small den that Picolit and himself called their home if it was even that. It was so brightly decorated by the other sibling that it continually gave Rosso a headache.
His small paws carried him easily over the drying grass that was spread beneath the trees that provided shade from the sweltering African sun during high noon. With tongue dry, thirst drove Rosso on to make his way to a small spring of water that had yet to fall victim to the brutal master of the Savannah; the sun. The small feline opened his mouth, attempting to keep his body from heating too much even with the help from the shade of the thin canopy above him.
Neck craned upward, Rosso looked toward the sky, looking for signs of clouds to aid in the cooling of his thin body but alas, there was no white to dot the blue sky.

Pinot scowled in to the spring of water she had come to rest beside , ears flicking back as she turned her head to examine her fur in the water’s surface. “Dreadful heat is doing nothing for my poor fur.” She lightly dipped a paw in the water, shaking excess water off before rubbing said paw across her cheek. The ruffled fur flattened for a moment before springing back to stand outwards. Pinot huffed loudly and stomped the paw down. “Curse you sun and your spiteful heat! You surely do this to me on purpose just to irk me.” She stared for moments more in to the water, eyeing her disheveled fur with disdain. No longer wishing to stare at her tousled fur she turned her head to instead gaze out between the few trees that separated her from the open savannah from which she had left to rest in the forest’s welcoming shade.

Upon finally arriving at his destination, the rosy cheetah paused suddenly, stricken by the sight before him. A sudden pounding his chest caused him worry that her heart should burst right from his chest, but that worry was soon pushed aside as Rosso soon caught himself as he stared at the lady that was seated beside the usual watering hole for him and his brother. She was gorgeous.
‘Come now Rosso, compose yourself. No lady could possibly like a man staring at her in such a manner.’ He reminded himself prior to puffing his chest out lightly, steadying his unsteady legs before making his way towards the leopardess. Rosso stopped just as he was withing view, dipping his head politely. “Greetings upon you, my lady.”

The sound of paw steps behind her warned her of company, and though she wished it to be Noir bringing back something to eat she was disappointed as soon as the hopeful thought sprang forth as she realized they did not sound right. The steps were too light, and not only that but a voice soon followed upon their cease. Pinot did not turn right away to look who this stranger was, though she was pleased at the manner in which he addressed her. After a few more moments of feigning disinterest she slowly turned her head and gaze to find it was a cheetah who has spoke. She looked him once over before replying,” Greetings upon you as well, cheetah.” Pinot made no effort to hide the suspicion or aversion in her voice, watching closely this stranger in case he bore her any ill will.

A small smile spread over the cheetah’s snout as he was granted a reply by the leopardess. “And what is the name of the fair madam that graces this humble cheetah with her presence?” Rosso questioned as he raised his head to look over her burgundy body once more. And once more the ever-growing familiarity of the thrumming in his chest grew louder again. “Forgive me, I did not mean disrespect by not introducing myself first. I am Rosso, m’lady.” The smile grew larger as he spoke, moving his eyes back to hers, almost losing himself in them for a moment.

The cheetah did not seem to have any immediate intent to harm her, however Pinot was not about to drop her guard with this stranger about. When he asked for her name she raised her chin towards him, staring down her nose until he moved to introduce himself. She regarded him curiously for a moment before offering her name in return. “I am Pinot.” The male, this Rosso, was staring quite a lot at her though. His motives, at first unclear, were starting to seem bit more obvious to the leopard lady. This amused her. The corners of her maw curled in to a smile that was ever so slight that it may not even have been noticeable. “So what is it that you are doing out here?”

Rosso had nearly forgotten the whole reason for his being near the small water source after seeing the beauty of the leopardess. “I was originally going to drink from the minute pool, though it seems to be better suited to your use then mine.” He glanced around the surrounding area, head cocking slightly to the side at the lack of anyone other then the two of them in the immediate area. “May I inquire to why you appear to travel alone? Surely you are deserving to be surrounded by many others who follow after your step. As it is also dangerous out in the wild by one’s self. Perhaps you are waiting for someone? Would it not be better to wait for them in the coolness of my den, away from this harsh sun.”

At his statement she turned her attention momentarily to the water she sat beside, brow furrowing lightly upon seeing once more the reflection that had upset her before. She quickly looked away, back to Rosso. With her head raised once more she spoke, “I am indeed waiting for someone. I have taken rest by this pool while my aide searches out something for me to eat.” Her eyes narrowed at the last of his words, her previous suspicions of the cheetah only growing further at this attempt to seemingly lure her away. Whether his intentions based cruelly or otherwise, she believed this to surely be leading to an attempt on her life.“Such gall you have!” She stood quickly, her voice gaining a hiss as she continued, “I don’t know what reason you think I should have to wander off alone with a knave such as yourself, but I shall not be fool enough to put myself in such a position! The sun may be harsh, but I have sense enough to stay away from it when it’s heat would surely see me dead.” Pinot huffed loudly before turning sharply away from the cheetah and stalking off around the pool of water away from him.

“My lady, please!” Rosso pleaded, taking one step forward as she rose to leave. “I meant no such disrespect to your person. I merely wished for your own well-being.” Her calling him a knave though hit deeply at his own ego. He was no man-servant to anyone, no lion, no leopard and certainly no cheetah. No one. “Your beauty seems to be misleading. I thought you a flower that a god had blessed this land with. You are more a weed then I took you to be.” His lips sank, his eyes narrowed in the other feline’s direction. “Good day madam.” The goodbye was still said kindly enough, though it was likely just a mock affection, though it may not have been. With a huff though, he turned and left the pool to return to the shared cavern, unsure if he would share the day’s events with his brother. Despite the ending to the encounter, a dull pain pulled at his chest in the aftermath of his words, stinging, almost in regret, though he chose to ignore it.

A weed! This lowly beast had dared to insult her? Pinot spun quickly to face the offending cheetah, only to find he had turned and was already walking away from her. Her fur pricked on end in her fury and ears swiveled back to lay against her head. A low growl escaped her throat as she attempted to spit forth whatever insults that she could quickly bring to mind. “You impudent little wretch!” She spat after him before turning once more to stalk off in to the trees.
