Normally I stay away from the front page but this is pretty big and pretty good news if I do say so myself. The biggest nuggets of news have been highlighted in bold.

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce that it has entered a comprehensive licensing partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. for the worldwide rights to publish card, roleplaying, and miniatures games set in the popular Star Wars™ universe!

”Being able to publish gaming products in the Star Wars universe is quite simply a hobby-game company’s dream come true,” said Christian T Petersen, CEO of Fantasy Flight Games. “I’m confident that both Star Wars fans as well as FFG’s regular customers will be blown away by the game experiences we have planned for this legendary IP.”

“As a leader in hobby gaming, we’re excited to be partnering with Fantasy Flight Games,” said Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing. “Fun and adventure are hallmarks of the Star Wars saga, and FFG perfectly captures this in their games.”

FFG’s first two Star Wars game lines will be the X-Wing miniatures game and Star Wars: The Card Game, both scheduled to launch in early 2012.

Just the beginning...

X-Wing is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, pitted against each other in fast-paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, X-Wing recreates exciting Star Wars space combat throughout its several included scenarios. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission!

Star Wars: The Card Game is a cooperative card game that puts 1-4 players* in command of the Rebel strike force and mission team. Players will launch fleets of starships and direct some of the most famous heroes in the Star Wars galaxy as they confront the might of the Empire. By working together, players can fend off Imperial assaults and complete their mission, winning the game! With a wealth of characters, starships, missions, and enemies, Star Wars: The Card Game immerses players in gripping galactic conflict.

Visit our X-Wing website or Star Wars: The Card Game website to learn more, and keep checking back. These two exciting titles are only the beginning, and we’ll be announcing additional Star Wars card, roleplaying, and miniatures games in the coming months!

* Players can create two standard tournament decks with the contents of a single core set.

I'm guessing Star Wars is no longer the fad it used to be around here.

Interesting but I'd like to see pictures of these 'stunningly detailed and painted miniatures'. Couldn't find any at all on the website.

There could be a very decent Star Wars space miniature game for sure. Thrawn pincers and what not.

The FFG forums had a Gen-con shot of a lone X-Wing pitted against two Tie Fighters. The game uses no grids or tiles and seems to work a lot like Aeronautica Imperialis, only the spinners with the speed and altitude are hidden from your opponent and you both perform actions at the same time, unveil them at the same time and then move your models.

The models looked good, Micromachine quality according to some posters. These are show models though and the actual production models could be of a lower quality.

It once was, a long time ago, in an era far, far away..

somehow I feel that this will end up in another "collective card/model game" trying to rip you off even more than GW does, which is no mean feat...

The card game is of the LCG (Living Card Game) variant, where you buy packs and boosters with pre-determined cards and where you play against the game, not each other.

Looking at the track record of FFG so far, they've yet to release a product that contains random contents like Wizards of the Coast did with their DnD and Star Wars miniatures. I could be wrong though, however I do feel certain about this.

While I am looking forward to their X-Wing game, I'm also anxious to hear how they're going to do the proposed RPG and miniatures game.

Tell me about it, I'm moving to Australia where GW charges $62 AUS for a tactical squad of marines compared to just £23 GBP here in Britain. At the current exchange rate that's £16 GBP more!!!!

While I understand your grievance, having spent several months in Australia myself, let's not turn this into a GW bashing thread, instead stay on topic. Stay on topic Gold Leader!

I might get into it, just depends really being that I have tons of Fantasy Flight games, but I rarely play any of them because my friends are not always up and we tend to do other things. But I guess because the card game is 1-4 player, I can just play it by myself like I do with Arkham Horror when I'm bored.

Oh yes, LCG can be played solo.

Chances are Andy Chambers will be writing the miniatures game rules when he's done with Dust Warfare.

I've recieved word that the models shown at Gen-Con were resin prototypes and that production models will be semi-hard plastics. Expansion ships, both common and piloted by named characters (Luke Skywalker was named as almost done, with more to follow), will be sold as single ship blisters with their own stat cards and whatnot.

For now they will only tackle the movie vessels. Expanded Universe is as of yet out of the question.
