So I'm really upset right now because a guy asked me out on a date yesterday and I had to tell him I'm a lesbian. Telling people doesn't bother me since I'm very open about it, but it was frustrating when he kept pushing "why don't you try again, won't you change for me?" As if I can change! And then an ex boy friend from two years ago did pretty much the same thing... Telling me that I was lying and that he knew I wasn't a lesbian.

I'm sorry, I'm just really frustrated right now and need to rant crying

My goodness. I'm sorry. That's pretty rude though, asking you to change just for them. You can't change who you are. Well you can...but I hope you know what I mean by that. sweatdrop ~hugs~ I'm so sorry some people are so stubborn.

That's dumb. :/ I hate that people feel like you choose to be attracted to the same sex.

Something like this has happened to me before. This girl in middle school had a HUUUUGE crush on me, and when I told her I was gay, she thought I was just saying that so she'd stop bothering me. :/ Yeah, I wonder when people will understand...

Changing your sexual orientation is possible. I'm living proof that it is.

Do you have a time machine? Our sexual orientations are determined by our genes, the hormones secreted by our brains as a baby, and the chemical conditions of our mother's uterus.
You need to be able to defy physics if you think you can change those.

Well, this is what science and medicine tells us.
Why should I believe otherwise?

You believe what other people tell you. But let me tell you that everyone thinks differently. And that phrase "Be who you want to be." is very true. If you really want to change then you will change.

If you want to get epistemological, everything is just a story, and what is 'true' are the stories we actually believe. If I believe that I am a solipsist, then you are nothing more than some creation of my subconscious and perhaps I'm just a brain in a jar. So let's not go down the 'nothing is really true you just believe what you want to' road.

And the 'be who you want to be' does not really apply to this sort of thing. Do I like the fact my hair is turning grey at age 20? No. Can I just, will it turn blond again? Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Sexuality is even more complex than hair color. You can't just deprogram it.

I guess you don't get the part where your sexuality is an immutable, physical manifestation of sexuality - not an element of your personality.
