Things have been a little rough for the Reaper as he was recovering from over stressing his body. Aside from being sore, it was just a bit easier for him to wear out at the moment... especially when he had tried to sneak in a short workout session when Mitsu wasn't keeping a close eye on him.

He didn't go overboard like last time, but Shun still probably did a little more than he should have given his current state. It was enough that when he was done that night, he decided to relax a bit on one of the benches outside before grabbing food and heading back to his room. Well, he ended up doing a little more than relaxing as not long after he sat down, he ended up dozing off on the bench.

The guy didn't look all too comfortable as he slept there, partially due to the slightly troubled expression that had shown up on his face.

Xiu hadn't had much practice with entering dreams, and the other night had been the first time in quite a long while. That being said, she hadn't meant to jump into Mitsu's dream either at the time. She had just been trying to go through the steps of what her family had taught her, but she had gotten a little carried away.

As she walked down the path, she silently mulled over what she had learned about her poor friend in the dream. She had never really considered what her friends' homes or families were like--that stuff was rarely, if ever, brought up in conversation. The only person who she had briefly learned about was Shun, and even then, he had been somewhat cryptic about what he told her. All she knew was that he didn't have siblings and never had a chance to play.

Frowning a little at this, the Baku was so deep in her thoughts that she nearly walked right past the familiar figure dozing on the bench. As it was, she had taken a few steps past him when she froze, paused, and backtracked. "Aniki?" Voice soft, she leaned down so that she could look at his face, her brows knitting together in concern at his expression. He didn't look like he was having a good dream.

She reached out to wake him up, but stopped midway, a thought suddenly coming to mind. Shun was usually so closed off to most people, and he was a stubborn boil too. If there was ever anything bothering him, he would probably be more likely to try getting through it himself rather than lean on his friends. Pulling her hand back, the Baku stared at the reaper contemplatively. Perhaps...perhaps just a peek wouldn't hurt?

Moving to sit behind the bench--she didn't want to get caught when he woke up, after all--Xiu closed her eyes and concentrated, trying to mimic what she had done the other night. The Baku looked for the path to Shun's dreams, ignoring the other paths that belonged to other students who were dreaming that evening. Finally, she sensed the one that belonged to the reaper and followed it in until a new scene and setting began to paint itself around her.

The realm of the dream did not seem to be so far from reality. Tall buildings surrounded the area, with people filling the streets at the bottom. People were minding themselves for the most part, going on their way at their own pace. It was a pretty diverse city, as a number of each of the factions could be seen wandering about and doing their business.

Rushing along, one reaper child was running at top speed towards one of the buildings, hurrying on up towards his destination. He didn't stop until he practically burst through the doors of one room in particular, where an older man awaited. The room in general, looked similar to a dojo, complete with tatami mat flooring.

Seeing the boy walk in, the older man paused what he was doing and made his way over, looking far less than pleased.

"You're late," he said; the disappointment and irritation heavily coated his voice, "Did you bring it?"

Still breathing heavily from the run, the younger Reaper glanced towards the ground. At first glance, it might have looked like he was scared, but a closer look would reveal a sort of frustration in his expressing on.

"I..I'm sorry. Zarric said the package wasn't ready yet... He needs more ti-"

Cut off sharply as he was struck, the boy staggered, trying to keep his balance. There was a hint of anger in his eyes, mixed with the obvious fact that had hurt.

"Jack dammit. It was a simple task and yet you still couldn't do it right," the older Reaper sighed before turning away.

So this was what Shun's mind was like, huh? Xiu surveyed her surroundings curiously, taking in all the people as they walked past--and through--her. As she had expected, no one could see her. With the exception of the dreamer (Shun, in this case), she wouldn't be able to interact with anyone else.

And speaking of the reaper...was that him as a kid? Despite the fact no one else could see or hear her, the Baku instinctively sneaked closer on her tiptoes, eyes wide with curiosity as she regarded the other man. Could that be...Shun's father, perhaps? For the most part, she watched silently during their exchange, but she immediately bristled when the man brought a hand down on the smaller reaper.

She opened her mouth to yell, but immediately clamped it shut again as she remembered that there was nothing she could do. She could yell profanities at the man and it wouldn't matter--he couldn't hear her. This was all a dream. Tail drooping, she moved towards the child, stopping beside him. Was Shun dreaming of himself as his younger self, right now--as in, was he in that body right now? Or was he watching all of this unfold from a distance? If it was the former, then the child would probably be able to see and interact with her. Xiu stooped down so that they would be eye-level.

"Aniki--" Nope, wait. Something about calling a child her "big brother" seemed wrong. "Um...are you okay?"

"Go continue training. I'll see if I can find someone that isn't so damn worthless for this stupid task," hissed the older Reaper as he exited the room.

Now that he was gone, there was a slight shift in the child's expression as he turned away. Frustration was definitely still there, but it also looked like he was trying to fight back some tears at this point as well. While he was trying to recover from that ordeal, he was surprised to hear someone saying 'aniki' all of the sudden.

Looking up to see Xiu there, the kid looked fairly confused and fairly worried.

"Wh-what are you doing here?" he stammered out, still trying to keep himself from crying. It sounded like he was trying to stay pretty quiet too for that matter.

Xiu was relieved that Shun (look how tiny and adorable he was! ...Could she get away with calling him "Shun-kun"?) had the good sense to keep quiet. Even if this was all a dream, she knew that it would feel very much real to her reaper friend until he actually woke up. "Just checking up on you," She answered simply, reaching out to give the boil a little pat on the head, "Are you alright?"

She was trying to make sense of everything right now. This little boil was Shun, that much was obvious. As for that man...could her previous guess have possibly been right? "Who was that guy just now?" She asked, gesturing in the direction that the other reaper had left in. It didn't hurt to ask for confirmation, though she wasn't sure if he would be willing to divulge in such information.

Falling silent now, she looked over the boy closely, head tilted as she examined his features. Yes, she could see some similarities between this child and the grumpy reaper that she knew, only he seemed a lot more...vulnerable right now. The fact that he was trying to fight back tears was evident, and the Baku gave him another pat on the head and a smile.

She was feeling a little guilty for barging in on Shun's dreams like this, though. She was learning about things that she probably wasn't supposed to know. Should she...turn back?

Young Shun still looked a bit confused and he flinched slightly when she reached out to pat him on the head, as if he was almost expecting to be smacked instead. It generally was how things went.

"You don't want to know him," he said quietly as he shifted away from Xiu when she patted him on the head again. The boy didn't flinch again but he did tense a bit just out of instinct. It looked as if he was going to say something but the older man's voice rang out from the other room.

"Shun I don't hear you working!"he shouted while peeking in, seeing the kid just standing there, looking a little nervous on his own. He could also see the look on the younger Reaper's face and quite frankly he did not appear all too happy to see that. Making his way over, he stared hard at the child before striking him down.

"Stop standing around doing nothing. And for the love of Jack, what did I say about crying?" he man hissed.

Now on the ground from that hit, young Shun let out a sort of whimper while slowly pushing himself back up. The dojo around was slowly shifting to something darker and more sinister, and the walls didn't seem to be completely solid.

"I-I'm not..." he started, trying hard to control himself, "I'm not c-crying..."

She had been about to say something else when a loud voice boomed from behind them. Leaping to her feet, Xiu eyed the man with wide eyes, shrinking a little as he walked closer. Perhaps it was her typically cowardly nature, but the Baku couldn't help but feel a little frightened in this man's presence. However, this fear immediately faded when--in her opinion, with no reason to--the older reaper suddenly reached out and hit the boil again.

Instead of feeling afraid, she was horrified now, her hands cupped around her mouth and her eyes wide. Even if she didn't quite beilieve it, she tried to convince herself that this was just a random nightmare that Shun was having, and not a reflection of his past. What kind of childhood was this? It didn't help that she was helpless in this situation either--as much as she wanted to yell at the man and take a swing at him, he could neither hear nor feel her.

Xiu was vaguely aware of the changes that were spreading around their surroundings, but she tried her best to ignore it. "S-shhh, Shun, it's okay." What else was she supposed to say?

Gritting his teeth and shaking a bit as he was struggling, Shun glanced up at Xiu for a moment as she was trying to comfort him. It didn't really help all that much, especially since the older Reaper was right there, looming over him.

"Pathetic. It just so happens that my son has to be a worthless little piece of s**t," the man hissed while pushing the kid back down with his foot when he was trying to get back up.

"And don't bother trying to lie to me. I can practically see the tears in your eyes," said an identical man who suddenly appeared on the other side of the child, stepping on his back to keep him pinned down. His voice was practically dripping with venom as he spoke.

"G-get off of me," whined the young Shun. The waver in his voice made it pretty obvious that he was losing in his attempts to keep himself from crying.

"URUSAI!" boomed the second man as he took his foot back to kick the downed boy hard and swiftly, sending him a good few feet.

"Such a weakling..." the two said in unison, their voices were starting to become a little distorted as well, "Always failing. Always breaking my rules."

Whimpering on the ground, the boy looked over towards Xiu with a sort of conflicted expression.

Jack, it felt terrible being so useless in a situation like this. It was only a dream, but until he woke up, it probably felt pretty darn real to him. All Xiu could offer were comforting words and hugs, but none of those were very helpful. Even if she tried to get in the way of another strike, the hand would simply go through her and hit the young reaper again.

Was this really what Shun's past had been like? It was no wonder that he was always so impassive considering that he was being hit for simply looking like he was about to cry. Xiu had thought that her own childhood had been hard with her overbearing parents, but this...this was clearly different.

Trying her best to avoid looking at the man and his doppelganger, she cast her eyes downwards when Shun turned to look at her. There was nothing she could do right now. This wasn't her dream, so she was unable to manipulate anything within it. She couldn't make the man disappear, change their surroundings to block him off, or do anything really. Only Shun could manipulate his own dream. The only problem was that, unless he was a lucid dreamer, it probably wasn't going to be an easy task.

With a bit of hesitation, she shuffled over so that she was between the boil and his father...or fathers, rather. Trying her best to block the men from view, Xiu lowered her voice. "Shun, you...you need to find a way to get out of here. You need to...change where you are, or make these men disappear, or...or something!"

"If I could make them disappear, I would have done that years ago," came a voice from somewhere behind Xiu. It was more mature than the voice young Shun had. If she were to turn around, she would see the Reaper in his present state, leaning against the back wall. It was hard to say long long he had been there. He appeared to be chained to the wall, which would at least explain why he hadn't done anything if he had been there the entire time.

Bits of the world around them were starting to crumble away, as the scenery continued to deteriorate. It was a little hard to tell what it was shifting to at this point.

The boy on the other side of the room was still there, huddled into a ball. Though he bit his lip to try and keep from making any noise, the tears had started to flow.

"Tck," one of the older Reapers started before a wooden weapon had suddenly appeared in his hand. It wasn't his Reaper weapon, but it certainly was something.

"Stop that," he hissed while lashing at the child. After young Shun cried out, the other man went and lifted up the boy, holding him high into the air. The ground began to break away, revealing an abyss all around. Only the area below the father(s), Xiu's, and the part of the room were the present Shun were standing remained in tact.

"I should just rid myself of this worthless waste of FEAR."

"Do it. He's no good to me anyway. He never was." the other chimed.

Freezing at the familiar voice, Xiu stood up and turned very slowly to face the reaper, her eyes wide. "Shun?!" She glanced between the Shun she recognized and the younger boil, trying to figure out what was going on. How had he--but she thought that he--...?

Noticing the chain that kept him in place, the Baku had been about to take a step forward when she realized that the floor was crumbling, falling away around her. She jerked back sharply, watching as piece fell and disappeared into a void. Why was this happening?! And...what would happen if she were to fall in?

With a sizable crack between her little island and the one where the men were standing on, Xiu's attempts to grab the younger Shun and jerk him away from their grasp failed. As the two identical men conversed with each other, the Baku shuddered at their words and immediately averted her gaze. She looked instead to the chained reaper,

"Shun, t-that's enough!" Dropping to her knees again, she clutched to the edge of the portion of the floor that remained below her with one hand, and pointed towards the fathers with the other. "You can stop them!" She was clearly panicking by this point, and the thought of devouring the dream hadn't crossed her mind at all yet. Even then, considering the content of Shun's dreams, she was sure that eating the nightmares would only prove to be a temporary solution.

Whimpering, the younger Shun gripped onto his father's arms tightly, not wanting to fall into the abyss below. He looked terrified, as anyone might expect.

"Can't you see I'm tied down?" the older Shun frowned at Xiu while moving against the chains somewhat. The metal was cutting into him, suggesting he had been fighting it for a time earlier on. Glancing down, he shook his head, "There isn't anything I can do. This happens all the time anyway."

"P-please father... I'll try harder.. Don't do this.." the boy sobbed while kicking the air below.

A cruel grin formed upon the older man's face.

"Oh? You will? And how can I be certain you won't stay as some worthless whelp?" he taunted, giving the child a shake as if threatening to let go.

"No, I mean...!" How was she supposed to explain this? Even if she told him that he was dreaming, would he even believe her, never mind be able to manipulate their surroundings to change what was happening? It was then that a very obvious solution occurred to her: she was a Baku. She could simply just eat the dream, and wipe the slate clear for a new dream to form!

Without explaining anything, Xiu closed her eyes and focused hard, hoping that she hadn't gotten too rusty. In her mind, she visualized a white dot appearing in the middle of the dream world. It started small, but as the ghoul concentrated, it slowly began to grow in size. When she finally opened her eyes again, she found that the hole--a white, swirling mass--had appeared just overhead of the two men and little reaper. It would not be visible to anyone else--neither the other characters nor the dreamer--but only to Xiu herself. As the hole grew even larger, it suddenly began to suck in it's surroundings, pulling in the the walls, the floors--even the darkness of the abyss itself.

Eventually, all Xiu was standing on was...well, nothing. Her surroundings were completely white, devoid of any objects, people, or scenery. Where the large hole once was now floated a small, gumball-shaped object. Moving towards it, she plucked it out from the "air", turning it over in her fingers. "So the nightmares are black in color. That makes sense." She murmured, examining it for one more second before lifting the object to her lips. Without hesitation, she popped it into her mouth and swallowed the object whole. Immediately after, she made a face.

"Ugh!" No matter what other Bakus said, she could never understand why eating nightmares were so appealing. She much preferred the sweetness of good dreams, but in this case, she had no choice in what she ate. If that's what it took to spare her friend--and herself--from seeing the darkness of his past, then she would do it.

As she eyed the blankness around her, she wondered what Shun would be dreaming about now. It probably wouldn't take too long before a new area and new characters began to show up.

From the white void, the scenery began to reform. The dojo had reappeared, though it didn't seem quite the same as it was before. There were cracks here and there, and not ones that would seem normal as some light was bleeding through them. Aside from that, it was more or less the same.

Both the child and present versions of Shun had reappeared as well, with the latter against the wall as before. The father had also come back, though there was just one of him this time around. His form wasn't completely solid, however, and he seemed to almost be made of shadows.

"Why are you just standing around?" hissed the older Reaper, striking the younger one nearly immediately.
