It was, perhaps, per pure chance that Darryl even knew about all this. A forced trip to the library, which she figured would be awkward, since the head librarian was the only one who knew about... What she was.
She was still hoping that he wouldn't tell.
Somehow, coming in to see that he wasn't there was worse. She accosted a purple-haired boy, who told her (well, stammered rather) that Tony was in the hospital. No one was really sure exactly why.
Darryl had an inchling.
It had still been all afternoon before she'd been allowed to ditch the group, and she made a beeline to said hospital. Perhaps it would have been traditional to bring flowers.
Darryl used what was left of her allowance to sneak him some chocolate. She knew by experience that hospital food was shitty.
It only took a few questions to figure out in which room he was in, and she knew her way around the hospital enough... Through she certainly wouldn't admit it to him if she could.
He'd start frowning, like the adorable old man he was, and one day his face was gonna end up stuck like that.
She paused at the room, and seemed surprised that no one was there, but still knocked on the open door to announce herself. "Tony ?"

The room was empty because Tony was sleeping, and because he hadn't had any visitors that day. But mostly, he would like to think, because he was sleeping. He had his leg wrapped up and resting after surgery, and had some nice pain killers keeping things even and relaxed.
He was avoiding, now, any thoughts of that fight, and of very nearly dying. It put his work and efforts into a strange new perspective, and he was not actually too excited about the things he was understanding. How far the negaverse would and could go. What his life meant, in the scheme of things, and how easy it was to lose it.
He opened his eyes when the door opened, turning his head from the pillow to look. He smiled when he recognized Darryl.
"Come in, please," he said, motioning for her to not be shy. He was a little groggy from the medication, but certainly not in a bad way. He found it to be rather happy medicine, in fact, and he did not mind being doped up on it for now.
"I thought I'd take a few days off from the library. You know, have some fun, get some rest. See new things. I don't think I've been in this particular room before... how did you know I was here?" He was a bit babbly, it seemed.

He waited for him to call her out before coming inside, her old running shoes squeaking against the tiles.
"Were you sleeping ? Im sorry..."
Darryl was not used to this side of being in the hospital, and when she was injuried the only person that really cared to come see her was Erika, so this was... awkward.
Especially since the older man seemed high as a kite.
She took the chair, turned it so it would be back first, then sat, laying on top of the back with her arm crossed. "I'd personally would have chosen another vacation location, myself." She said. "I came to the library and you weren't there. Lanky golden eyed stammerfest boy told me you were in the hospital, and it wasn't too hard from there."
She leaned forward a bit. "What happened ?" Her brows were furrowed. She still wasn't completely certain what the older man thought of her, if he thought she was some sort of rabble or some bad girl who didn't know anything at all, but she found... herself wanting to be seen in a good light.
It was odd, and she wasn't sure what to think of that.

Tony laughed at her description, knowing who she meant immediately, of course. He shook his head, thinking he would bring that with him back to work and pass it on.
Not to be mean, just because he found it particularly funny.
He looked at her as she leaned forward, knowing she wanted the real answer. Which was fine, as he hadn't been able to come up with a lie about it yet. Since Nate hadn't stopped by, unsurprisingly, he hadn't needed to explain himself too much. The doctors around this place seemed very used to unexplainable injuries.
The things they must see.
"I was ambushed. A corrupt and a captain set up a trap and I walked right into it. If my friend hadn't show up, I might have lost my starseed." He laughed, but his medication induced laughter faded quickly, his expression falling a bit. "I'll be on my feet again soon, so no need to worry."
He smiled at her. If she asked him, he would tell her that he thought she had potential. She wouldn't have awoken as a knight, for one, without it. But more than that, he was sure he saw something bright in her. Why would she have come to check on him? It was a simple gesture, but he appreciated it.

A captain and a... "A corrupt ?" She asked, making sure to keep her voice low, and her awareness to their surroundings, just in case a nurse was going to try creeping up on them. Happened all the time with her and Erika, and it annoyed the blue-haired girl to no end.
But now the stakes were also much higher than girl banter.
"They ganged up on you ?" She sneered, apparently very unimpressed with the two negas. "Looks like they have no concept of a fair fight."
Maybe that meant Hesperis needed to do some a** kicking...

Tony nodded his head.
"Ah... corrupted senshi. The Negaverse have the ability to take a starseed that's inside a senshi and... fill it with that chaotic energy you feel whenever a Negaverse soldier is around. Do you know what I mean? It turns them to that side, unfortunately. But I believe that anything corrupted by that power, including the Negaverse themselves, can be cleansed."
He spoke quietly, as well, though he found the nurses often left him to himself, or at least when he had company. They all seemed very used to strange happenings, and the more jaded ones just didn't want to be involved.
Self preservation, even at the hospital. It made sense, though it was a testament to the times.
"They did, but that's what makes them dangerous. They're violent and I think... I think they were having fun with me." He put his hand on his chest and shuddered. "I should have used my headset, but it happened so fast."

"Oh boy." That.. sounded nasty. So not all senshi were on their side. That... was good to know, really, just in case.
But from the sound of it, she would be just as happy never meeting one of these face to face.
She count relate, perhaps in some twisted way, having fun fighting. She had fun fighting all the time. But having fun while nearly killing someone ?
No, Darryl found that abhorrent. The question was... were such people worth being saved ? Would they even want to ?
Were they worth it ?
Everyone could change. Darryl knew that. She had changed. But not everyone wanted to change.
"I would have come." She said. There was no way she would have abandoned Camelot to his torturers, no matter what little a chance she might have stood.

"I know you would have. I suppose that scares me," he looked at her, frowning. She was young and had a very long life ahead of her, if they could get out of this war in one piece. But with her new duties as a knight, her life might be significantly shortened.
She was certainly in danger of it, as they all were.
He frowned, looking at her.
"But I didn't even have time to consider any of that. Still, it worries me, how easily we can be trapped or overwhelmed. We really do need to stay in contact with each other, and make sure we can come to each other's aid in times of need. If I've learned anything from all this, that's it."
He could have died out there. Simple. But he had so much to do, and so many people important to him that he needed to protect and care for.
He couldn't do that if he was dead, or if he let them die in a similar way to this. What was that saying? Live and learn. He had to do both.

"I would have handed them their asses so fast they wouldn't even have had the time to scream for their mommies." Yep, young. Typical teenager response right there.
But the very basis was true. She was going to at least try to beat the s**t out of anyone who tried to mess with her posse.
Try was perhaps the keyword.
"Maybe we should try to set up pairs." He pondered. "I mean, get a rough idea of who patrols when and match us into mini-teams ? One might be able to call for help while the other is busy, at least."

Tony watched her, his expression difficult to read. His relationship with his son was difficult at best. They weren't friends, certainly, and Nathan was often out doing whatever he wanted. Tony could hardly keep track of him, and when he did catch a glimpse he could often see that Nate had been fighting.
It made him worry.
Now this young knight was threatening to kick a** and take names. She was young and certainly energetic and determined, but... she was young. Tony looked at her and felt his chest sting at her concern. It wasn't something he'd get from his own son, and he found sudden significance in that. They both needed him to survive, to keep them safe and sheltered. Or maybe he needed them, to give him his purpose. Either way.
He sat forward carefully, reaching for her arm and tugging her to him for a hug. He didn't comment on her suggestion of mini teams, though he had been thinking the same thing, instead just hugging her out of concern and care, appreciation and fear.

...This wasn't what Darryl had been expecting.
Not really.
From the mindset of a girl who couldn't remember when her own mother had hugged her (if she had ever done so, she couldn't help but think), this was pretty mindblowing.
"Tony..." Whatever was gonna follow that just died in her throat. She really wasn't sure what to say.
For once, someone had managed to render Darryl completely and utterly speechless.

Tony pulled back, holding her at arms length and looking at her seriously. His expression was sad, but determined. He tried to smile reassuringly, but it never reached his eyes and fell from his face soon enough.
"You need to promise me you will stay safe," he said, "You'll patrol with another knight, and not go out looking for the negaverse agents that attacked me. Revenge breeds more revenge, but more than that, they're dangerous. I don't want you to run into trouble headfirst."
He was concerned about her, more than he could really say. He knew she didn't really know him, but he saw her as too young for this war, and with how dangerous things could be, having experienced it first hand, he found himself more protective than ever.
If he could almost get his starseed torn from his chest, then what could happen to her?
"I'm sorry, that was unprovoked. Uh. I'm just a little... tense."

For a moment longer, there was only blissful silence.
Darryl was still speechless.
Through then he spoke, and it made Darryl think. A little. Well, more than she usually bothered to think about things.
"I can do that." She said. "...If you do the same, too." Just because he was older didn't mean he was invincible !
And... One hand went to rummage in her pockets, pulling out the chocolate bar. It was... a little messy, but still good.
"And hospital food sucks." She winked, sneaking it over to him.

Tony was surprised he had caught her so off guard, and he worried she was going to feel too awkward and flee the room. He wouldn't blame her, of course, he had randomly attacked her with his paternal instincts.
When she agreed to his terms, though, he sighed and relaxed, finally letting go of her arm. He smiled and nodded his head.
"I'm going to be much more careful now, I can promise you that. I didn't like that much danger all at once, and would really rather avoid it, if it's all the same." He laughed, though it wasn't the danger that had really gotten to him. It was the fact that he had very nearly died, and very easily.
Too easy, he felt.
"Oh. Thank you," he laughed, taking the chocolate bar. He looked it over, his skeptical expression not completely hidden as he took in its condition. Still, it was the thought that counted. "You're right, of course. The food is awful."

That seemed good enough for Darryl, at least. She didn't go back to the chair, instead choosing to sit at the end of Tony's bed, through she was careful not to sit on any part of him - even more so since it was his leg that was wounded.
Erika did it all the time when she was the one in the hospital - she didn't even think twice about it.
"Did they try to feed you the cream of mushroom just yet ? Don't do it. Just... don't do it. It's probably the grossest thing I've had in my -life-."
