Setting

A river in the middle of the forest, Sara decides to take a soak,
but soon remembers they are bears in the woods!
Or people who just look a lot like bears...

This is a RP between Biki and Kaya, please do not post unless we say you can!

Sara weaved in and out of the trees, her boots covered in dirt and dust from the mud trail she had been following. She loved the smell of leaves and earth and for the first time in what seemed like forever she was able to appreciate being so close to her roots. It brought back memories of her home village, miles and miles away. She found it strange how her home sickness seemed to have vanished over the months she had spent in Lunaria. When she thought about home now no pain was present in her heart, instead there were happy memories. She had come to accept Lunaria was her home now and she was not the same girl who came here all those months ago. She had changed, grown up and come to fit the role which the city needed her to play. It had been a long journey and some lessons were hard to swallow but at the end of the day she knew that she was a better person for it.

She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, her ears picking up the ever so faint sound of trickling water. She turned and looked onwards knowing a river would not be too far away. She wondered if it was the same one that she went to the day she found Sakn, bloodied and almost dead from his constant battling. A long time ago she almost died in this forest and it was one of the hardest demons she ever had to face. However that was then. 'Fear cuts deeper than any sword.' The words of her spirit master rung in her mind, since she had started to carry his rod the ghost of Shinto was able to communicate with her more freely and his voice was as clear to her as daylight. She nodded her head and with that headed towards the sound of the water. It was not too long until she found the clearing in the trees which would lead her to the riverbank, her pale green eyes caught sight of her destination and a small smile came onto her lips.

"You know master, if I never had that battle in the forest you and I would have never met, I called for you to help me. So I guess I should be thankful of what happened I could not imagine what my life would be like with out you." She stated. Many Soul Conduits were mistaken for people who were not all there because of their random conversations with ghosts, they looked like they were talking to themselves and people who did not understand often avoided them. At first she tried to ignore them but now she was always talking to them, after all she had come to learn she should not be ashamed of who she was. Not anymore.

However the bank was damp and on her side the path to the river was a lot steeper and more uneven compared to the rest of her journey. She stepped forward to try make it down to the water so she could soak her feet however the earth supporting her gave away and the next thing she knew. "Ahh!" Splash. The river was shallow and did not have a current so to speak however it still managed to soak the young Mongolian from head to toe. She coughed and sat up, spitting out the water, her long teal hair was dripping wet and stuck to her damp skin. The fur on her hat and the trim of her robe was flat and every bit of white on her was slightly see through showing her tanned skin in the patches which were touching her body. She sighed and shook her head seeing no point in rushing out, she could not exactly get any wetter. She looked down at her reflection in the clear waters spotting little fish swimming around by the bank keeping clear of her. Poor things, she must of scared them half to death. At least it was a warm day, the water was actually quite comfortable to be in. "Well, it looks like I am still as clumsy as I always was." She laughed to herself, just a little.

Bataar felt the cool, clean water rush over him and sighed in relief. Normally bathing wasn't his thing, but this was different; he wasn't in some cooped-up bathhouse with steam nearly suffocating him. Instead, he was out in the middle of nature-- and besides, he had a wound to clean! And so that was the reason that the mongol was stark naked in the middle of the river. He took one of the dirty bandages from the shore and ran it through the watering, crinkling his nose in mild disgust as he watched the combined dirt and blood wash off. It was something Bat was obligated to do, however, because he sure as hell didn't want any part of himself to turn green as he'd seen on a few other soldiers. It was about the nastiest thing he could think of!

He flopped down onto the rocky floor of the river and bent to wet his hair, sighing; it was going to take forever for the knotted tangles to dry. In any case, it was nice having this place all to himself. The grown man did some splashing around, scaring off any sorts of fish that were too close-- he didn't think he'd like to get bitten by any of them. He then laid his bandages on a rock to dry and sank back into the river, set on taking his time and doing just fine until a shriek of sorts brought him to his senses.

He stood up and turned around, his green eyes wide with shock as he fumbled around his shoulder to find the handle of his sword-- the sword that was a few feet over on a large boulder. "What the hell?" he demanded, not pausing to consider his blatant immodesty. Had this girl just dared fall into his river? In the middle of his me-time? It really didn't seem fair! "Wh-what are you doing?" the behemoth sputtered helplessly.

"...huh what!?!?" She stuttered as she looked around totally unaware that anyone else was in the river to begin with. The sounds of shouting shocked her and made her rush to her feet in a panic - however Sara was not the most graceful little snowflake so as soon as her boot hit slippery rock she once again fell into the water with another, splash. Heart racing she dare open her eyes to take a look at were the noise was coming from, in front of her was a giant, fury brown animal on its hind legs. "BEAR!" She screeched, closing her eyes and reaching for her rod, she grasped her medium in her hand and held it in-front of her trying to think. Were you not meant to play dead with bears? Or was that lions... or were you meant to climb a tree. No bears could climb she could have sworn. Oh spirits, she had gone through all they had to throw at her and now she was going to be eaten by a big old bear! Wait now she remembered, you were meant to make yourself big!

So the soul conduit got onto her feet, legs trembling like leaves, her eyes still closed and she reached up into the sky. Then she remembered. "Wait bears... bears can't talk..." She stated to herself just to make sure she was clear on the matter. Her arms fell by her side and a totally dumbfounded look came onto her face a small blush oainting her cheeks in realising what a idiot she must have looked like. She took in a deep breathe, composed herself then turned to face the man, lowing herself into a small bow. "I am sorry, my name is-" She began before the last dots in this puzzle got connected. She lifted her head to look at him and for a moment and stared out of shock more than anything else. Her face started to radiate heat and her once tanned skin was now a illuminating shade of crimson. She had never seen a naked man before and she sure as hell was not expecting to just randomly bump into one. "W-WHY ARE YOU NAKED!?" She asked (very loudly) arms waving all over the place before she turned around and coveredher eyes, spirits forgive her.

"I am so sorry I did not see anything I swear!" She lied, she saw everything, more than she wanted to, maybe a bear would have been preferable. She held her hands to her chest, she could feel her heart beating faster than she could ever remember feeling it beat before and she did not know if it was from embarrassment, shock or terror. To tell you the truth it was a cocktail of all three. (Maybe that was not the best way to put it because of the current situation.) She wondered if she should just make a run for it however her legs were jelly and her eyes just damn right refused to open so that was out of the question for now.

Bataar gazed blankly at the girl that had accused him of being a bear and frowned-- he most certainly was not that hairy he thought, glancing down at himself just to confirm this fact. He clearly had no idea what was going through the other Lunarian's head, but it was easy to determine that she probably wasn't a threat, scrawny as he considered her. The Mongol was no longer very concerned and, indeed, fully expected her to leave within a matter of moments-- why wasn't she running, anyway, if she was so convinced he was a bear?

It was true that bears couldn't talk, he supposed, and so he gave the soul conduit a half-hearted "that's right" before starting to scrub gently at the wound on his hip. The captain was almost surprised when she asked after his nakedness. "Because I am washing up." he declared in a matter-of-fact tone. He had suspected all along that that sort of thing was rather obvious, seeing as he was in the midst of a river. Still, the adult(or was it the child?) in Bataar could not help but take advantage of this rare situation as the girl declared that she hadn't seen anything.

"But-- my dignity! My honor... I shall never be marriageable now!" he shrieked, attempting not to double over with laughter. This would be the perfect time for a serious face. He was performing a scene he'd seen many times as he'd barged into the ladies' side of the bathhouse. Bataar Jaoret then pretended to weep whole-heartedly into his hands, when he was really just shaking with laughter. It may have been a cruel joke, but he deserved some amusement out of all of this.

Was she hearing him correctly? "Washing up... in broad daylight in the middle of a river next to a public trail? That is not strange to you at all? I mean someone could... see you.... see your...." She asked just to make sure they were on the same page. She did not know why someone would want to be so exposed in a place so easy to find. However she told herself not to question it for all she knew he could be homeless. She stood there as still as ever before her ears heard such a curious noise, was he weeping? Her eyes darted open and she felt a shiver run up her spine. That was not what she expected at all. She was almost turned due to instinct but she persisted to stay facing away from his naked self. She peeled some hair off of her cheeks and threw it behind her, she felt dirty and wished she was in a nice hot bath right not instead of here cold and confused.

She shook her flustered. "W-what? Why are you crying? I did not do anything!" She exclaimed wondering how this could possibly get any more awkward. She bit her lip and clenched her firsts, she had to turn around to make sure he was okay, she felt bad for some reason. So she turned around making sure to keep looking up, he was a lot bigger than she so as long as she kept her eyes on his face everything would be okay. She started to walk towards him making sure to keep her feet securely on the ground, if she slipped into him.... that was not worth thinking about, could you imagine what she might grab on the way down! She came to stand just a arms reach away, she tried to give a soft smile as she reached out her hand to rest it on his shoulder. "Erm... there there." Her tone was unsure, she did not know what to say or why the hell he was acting like this in the first place.

Bataar was hardly concerned about others spotting him as he was-- his only real regret was that it was impractical to bring his sword with him into the water. He continued his act, feeling very gifted indeed even as a few evident guffaws of laughter escaped his lips. This girl seemed so clueless and concerned and it had been a while since he'd met anyone of a similar disposition. He would have his fun, however-- Bat needed to take a break from being serious.

The captain straightened abruptly when she placed her hand on his shoulder and commenced chewing on his lip, examining his new acquaintance. "I'm just kidding." he declared flatly, struggling to change his tone as best he could. This wasn't an enemy, superior, or obvious underling as far as he could see. She was just a student and he ought to be nice. Even if she were a legionnaire, it was clear that she posed no threat.

Bat carefully removed Sara's hand from his shoulder and waded to shore, unceremoniously tugging on a pair of pants which halted just before his new wound high upon his hip-bone. "People don't normally stumble upon this part of the river, anyway-- not unless they're extremely clumsy and somehow manage to fall down the bank." he stated. The amused expression in his eyes hardly matched his heavily sarcastic tone. It was pretty impressive to fall that far.

Her hand was removed from his shoulder gently and as soon as the weeping had started it had come to a halt. She tilted her head to the side slightly with a small smile hearing his sarcasm loud and clear. She knew he was not making fun of her, or at least she hoped he wasn't. "I guess that makes me one of those special few." She stated with a small smile looking to the side slightly as he wondered over the shore to retrieve his clothing a rosy tint still present in her greenish cheeks.

"Anyway, my name is Sarangerel, or Sara whichever you like." She decided to throw her name out there just incase he was interesting, if anything her voice was a instrument to occupy the awkward moment when he was pulling up his pants. In her own tongue her name meant Moonlight. Though not many Lunarians did have Mongolian routes.

After he was decent she looked over at him again and soon realised why she thought he was a bear, he had thick, long brown hair. Just a little darker than his skin. However like her he had very light eyes compared to the rest of his complexion. Sara herself was darker than most people with deep teal hair and tanned skin. It made her light scales look even brighter and her eyes even more ghostly. He was a giant compared to most with large muscles though there was something that she could not help but notice."Are you hurt?" She asked directing her attention to the cut on his hip.

Bat nodded and was about to speak when the student made her name known. He paused and took a moment to look her up and down, slowly registered both her boots and her furs. Her name was, indeed, in his language. "Moonlight." he muttered, looking surprised. He could honestly say he'd never met another mongolian here in the city. "What tribe do you hail from?" he demanded, feeling his breath hitch a little.

He waved her away from the cut, shrugging. He wasn't concerned about it in the face of this newfound situation. How was he supposed to deal with or address another mongol here? His mother would have his hide if she thought he'd done something wrong or disgraceful in meeting one of his countrymen(woman?). He dreaded disappointing Odval, and hoped this girl didn't know her. He couldn't afford being talked badly of around the one woman who managed to provoke true dread within him.

"It's fine. It doesn't hurt that much." the behemoth added, placing his hand upon the mid-sized cut. For once, Bataar was far more interested in the direction of the conversation than in anything else.

Sara's eyes widened slightly as she heard from his lips a word that she did not expect. She looked up at him a little more curiously, they both had tanned skin, dark hair and light eyes. Thinking about it their genetics seemed to have some things in common, maybe he was one of her people. "My father used to call me Moon when I was little. I have not come across anyone else who knows our tongue." She stated with a small bow of her head out of respect, besides her namesake she did not know much about her heritage and the thought of what he might be able to teach her excited her. Truth be told hearing someone call her Moonlight... it made her heart ache a little due to homesickness but at the same time it was nice, what a odd feeling.

However when he asked about her tribe she did not really know how to respond. "My family name is Odtsetseg, I guess you can say I have a very celestial name. However I do not have a tribe - I was raised in a village and like here many cultures were present in my upbringing." She stated, her last name meant 'star flower' and was a word that most of the residents of Lunaria had a hard time repeating or spelling for that matter. She wondered towards him once more realising she was still in the water. She stepped onto the bank before grabbing her hair and ringing it, droplets from the long teal strands fell onto the ground before it rested back on her shoulder slightly curled because of the moisture.

She nodded her head with a small smile as he tried to divert her attention away from his cut. "Well you see I am a healer, a soul conduit. It is a simple enough wound to deal with, if you so desired." She stated, she did not mind using her powers to help anyone who requested her assistance, after all that is why the spirits blessed her with them in the first place. "Now let me take a look" She paused before cocking her head to the side. "You never told me your own name." She stated with a small smile trying to coax it out of him.

Bataar nodded, his expression rapt. "Nor have I." he mumbled, feeling the beginnings of shyness creeping over him. It had been so long since he'd spoken with anyone of his own culture excepting his mother. It was strange to be in this position now, and he didn't quite know what he ought to be doing about it. "Many of the tribes still remain nomadic. Mongolians are rare in the imperial city." he sighed, brushing his damp hair away from his face.

The captain nodded, looking faintly disappointed as she mentioned that she'd grown up in a village. That meant he still knew absolutely no one who had been nomadic-- it was a shame that his tribe had split so abruptly over this damned war. Parts of him still longed to be out on the rugged tundra, experiencing the harsh weather and hearing the wind. It was a feeling he really couldn't relate to anyone else. He hadn't the words for it, he supposed. Or maybe he did-- in Mongolian, at least. Perhaps it was communicable.

"My name is Bataar Jaoret." he stated. Hero. "And it's not that big a deal..." the muscular man added, although he removed his large hand from the wound and allowed himself a grimace. He was always managing to get injured these days.

"Wow... so not only am I special for being able to fall into a river but I am also special because of my heritage. I guess I am the special of the specials then." She gave a nervous chuckle rubbing the back of her head. "Well then its nice to meet you Bataar." She nodded, truth be told she would have called him Hero but unlike her friend Yue she did not feel comfortable giving people nicknames on first meeting. She still did not have the confidence or the ability to read people like Yue did.

She leaned forward a little to look at the cut on his head, maybe if he was a smaller man then it would be more serious but since he did not seem to want her messing with it she decided not to, as long as it was taken care off it would heal well enough on its own. "I guess your right, your a big man you can handle it. You do look like you are used to such things." She nodded she had noticed the other scars on him, the one on his chest seemed particularly nasty but he had other smaller ones like the one on his lip. She had no doubt that he was a fighter, one that saw many battles, maybe at one time that would have scared her but he had not given her any reason to treat him with suspicion.

Then it occurred to her that might have been taken the one way, some people were very self-concious about the marks on their body and some took them with pride, she had to admit he seemed like the later but she thought that she would add to her previous words just in case. "Oh, not that is a bad thing. At least you will have some interesting stories to tell." She smiled and then stood back up straight pulling her wet fur hat from her head and ruffling her fringe so it was no longer glued to her forehead, she must have looked like a complete and utter mess.

She looked at him and cocked her head slightly to look at him from the corner of her eye. "I feel a little bit nervous. I have always wanted to learn more about my families culture but never really got the chance. There are so many things that I would like to ask you Bataar." She nodded, he was probably too busy for her questions.

Bataar wasn't quite sure what this situation ought to be labeled as: awkward, or enlightening, or both? He was still grappling with his acceptance of the idea that he'd actually just met another Mongol. "That sort of thing just doesn't happen much." he stated, feeling himself begin to normalize again. "Must've been Tengri." he added, starting to fit on his rather excessive amount of clothing and battle gear. The sheer amount of straps involved probably would have been mind-boggling for anyone else, but Bat was performing the act with clear efficiency.

He allowed a dry bark of laughter to escape his lips at her comment and nodded, unconsciously running his fingers over the scar on his chest. He'd had it for a while now, he supposed, and it had completely healed by this time. Generally, Bataar was a braggart when it came to his scars, but that was one he didn't tend to really highlight. It was almost as if this particular scar was too personal. It wasn't something to speak to a stranger about.

He forced a small laugh again, although he felt the ease of it returning to him. "Don't ask me, ask my mother. She was the shaman of the Jaoret clan." The captain did know a great deal about his culture, just from having grown up in the midst of it, but his mother knew all the lore and such and as bitchy as she tended to be he thought she might like to pass some of it on.

"A shaman." She repeated to herself as the word rung through her mind. She wondered if she shared more in common with his mother than just a heritage, she wondered if there was any chance the women could be a soul conduit too. Sara was a spiritual women herself and at the moment she was being trained to be a Priestess of Lunaria, though the thought of meeting a spirit women from her own culture. It was exciting. 'Do not miss a chance like this Sara.' Shinto's words were clear to her and she blinked looking away from Bataar curiously. Her spirit master seemed to understand how much that it would mean to her if she could just have a few moments with his mother.

She took in a deep breath and looked back at the giant who was messing around with his straps and buckles. She knew she could not waste this optionality, especially because she was too shy to ask. She counted to three in her head and then forced herself to ask what she wanted to. "W-would I be able to? Meet your mother that is?" She asked with a small stammer, a old nervous habit of hers that had become rarer over the last few weeks but apparently it was still present at times like these. After the words left her lips she felt a small shiver run up her spine out of nervousness but after she instantly felt glad that she had asked.

"I must say Bataar it seems like my trip was more than just an accident, its seems like fate intended us to run into each other today." She nodded thinking this meeting too strange to be just a coincidence. The spirits must have planned this and something deep down told her that it was them who set her on the path to meet this Shaman.

Bataar nodded, suddenly feeling rather important. For once he had information that someone else didn't-- important information, even if his mother was the source of most of it. He'd always taken for granted that his mother was a shaman, but now that he considered it he could see how powerful Odval must really be. She had, after all, given birth to him, in any case. "Yeah." he nodded, strapping his pauldrons to his powerful shoulders.

"I don't see why not." the Mongol added, thinking it best not to mention just how bitchy Odval really was. He'd never actually taken anyone to see his mother, so he wasn't sure how this would go, but for all he knew she'd somehow arranged this meeting. It was always impossible to tell these things, but he supposed he'd lead Sarangerel to the one woman that he was truly in awe of.

He nodded a bit grimly at Sara's mention of fate, frowning. "Or it could've been my mom." he added in an inaudible voice under his breath before straightening abruptly, realization upon his face.

"Oh, s**t! I'm late for sparring!" he shouted, shooting an apologetic glance to Sara. And, with that, the Mongol was sprinting up the bank in the general direction of the Academy's training grounds to go beat up some unfortunate fighters and students.
