Common Questions

Who is Boris?
Boris Airay is the representation of the Cheshire Cat from Quin Rose’s ‘Wonderful Wonder World’. He is a teenager of an untold age (most assume he’s about the same age as Alice, the ballpark is something like 17 – 19), who is a freeloader at the amusement park. Mary Gowland gives him his own room in exchange for some menial chores around the park from time to time.
Boris is a cat, so as he often says he “belongs nowhere, and can go everywhere”. So even though Wonderland is at ‘war’, Boris roams from place to place pretty much unhindered unless he brews mischief (which is quite often).
In the manga he is shown having to force his way into the Castle of Hearts, but nowhere in the game is there a similar situation (as far as I’ve found). He is always seemingly welcomed, or at the least tolerated. I am under the impression that the manga’s depiction is to show his mischievous side and as a plot device aide. I don’t think it’s outside of his character, so it’s a moot point.
If you know that Boris is a mischievous cat, you know Boris.

What is “Wonderful Wonder World?"
WWW is a series of games scripted by the talented Quin Rose. The google-translated link to QR's site is HERE.
If you would like to read the first four manga books, translated and online, the link is HERE.
WWW, without giving away spoilers, is a series of Otame games where the goal is to play as the female lead and end the game happily in a relationship with one of the other characters. (The game is PG - 13, though I feel that certain characters definitely push that rating.)
The first game, Heart, is being adapted into a manga. As of the day I write this, two books have been released in English already. I’ve heard the other games will be represented in ‘one shot’s’ as storyline books; meaning you can pick up the Boris storyline book and it will supposedly cover what happens in the next two games.

What’s Boris like with the other characters/Role Holders?
There are some minor differences in the game vs. the manga, but here I’ve simplified it to overall. THIS IS NOT RP CANNON WITHIN THE SHOP. This is the cannon Boris from Quin Rose’s world, and may or may not hold true within the TLN representation.
Boris seems to get along with just about everyone, though his ‘best friends’ would be the Twins. In the games he has a friendly and respectful relationship with Elliot, and a distant competition with Blood. (Blood rarely deigns to the challenge though. It is more in Boris’ mind; not that it seems to affect their behavior any.) Vivaldi acts friendly towards him, as she seemingly loves cats, but they hardly ever meet so there’s not much to go on. He is aggressive towards Peter, often demeaning or challenging the rabbit. He is wary of Ace, often finding himself on the opposing side of an issue with him. He avoids Ace as much as his character allows (which isn’t much, but that speaks volumes for Boris).
As far as Julius is concerned, there is little to go on. Boris hardly sees him, but from what I’ve gathered it’s a quiet acquaintanceship. Boris bears no ill will towards his profession, and rather seems distantly respectful of him. I don’t think that means he’s beyond Boris’ pranks, but I bet Boris would think twice at least. This same sentiment seems to hold true for Grey as well. There is hardly any mention of Nightmare in any of Boris’ lines, what little I have to go on suggests that he has little to no opinion on him. He shows no signs of friendship or animosity towards the dream weaver. There is a strong rivalry between Pierce and Boris. The best way I could describe it is Frienemies. The two love to hate each other. Boris finds him highly annoying and will stop at nothing to pester the crap out of him. Of course Pierce despises Boris if for no other reason than he’s a cat. The two are sometimes oddly friendly though, so I would venture a guess that like a lot in WWW, some of their aggression is for show. Joker, on the other hand, is a true enemy. If the game rules allowed, Boris would probably disobey and destroy Joker at any presented opportunity.
And that leaves us with Alice.
Like all the characters in WWW, Boris is infatuated with her from the very start of the game. As time goes on, given the right circumstances, that infatuation develops into true love. Alice is perhaps the only person that could put Boris on a leash, however Boris is also rather controlling as far as the relationship as well. In true cat fashion he is highly possessive and protective of her, but would rather she approach him than force her hand. He truly changes himself for her, so that she will not be frightened by him. Their relationship would best be described as the healing kind. Even if just on the friendship route, Boris makes every effort to cheer Alice up and support her, wanting only her happiness.

Can you tell me more about WWW?
See the next post if you’re truly curious.

Questions on Wonderful Wonder World
-Spoiler Alert!-

What’s a Role Holder?
Without going into too much detail, a Role Holder is anyone in WWW with importance. They have ‘roles’, you see? (Think of the Face cards in a deck of cards.) Everyone else in this world has ‘no face’, or at least not a defined one. They have no eyes, though the see just fine. (It is supposed to emulate the feeling of trying to remember someone who wasn’t that important, and being unable to exactly remember what their face looked like.)
These Role Holders are held to rules within the ‘game’.

Rules?
In this world everyone must abide by a code of conduct and by random rules. Unfortunately we’re not always told what they are, as throughout the series you play as Alice, and since she is not held to the rules she doesn’t get told what they are; it’s assumed that one of the rules is you can’t talk about the rules. (Fight Club, anyone?)
Sometimes Alice will encounter situations where someone she knows is behaving strangely, and it’s often due to them being bound to do something as the rules state.
We also don’t know what happens if the rules are broken. It is assumed that the world as they know it will just simply collapse.
The rules also determine how a person must act, and what they can and cannot do. Take Boris for example. Even if Boris were to die, his replacement would be bound to the rules and would have to act exactly like the Cheshire Cat role. He might not be identical to Boris, but many of the things would be the same. We’re to assume they’d even look the same.

Wait… replaced? What? If they die…
In WWW people don’t ‘die’ the way we do. They don’t have hearts, they have clocks. If you ‘kill’ them, they disappear and their clock remains. These clocks are collected and sent to Julius for repair. When a clock is repaired the after images take the clocks and assume the roles or positions they represent. Think of it like reincarnation that you can see.

Fffft that’s mess up. Ok, what’s an After Image?
And after image is the ‘soul’ of a person killed. It looks like their shadow, pretty much. They haunt about, and do other things I don’t need to go into detail about.

Ok, fine, but what happens when you stop a clock?
We’ve only heard of one person doing that, Elliot. He was imprisoned by Julius as killing a clock is the closest we know to a ‘true’ death and that the person and role could not be refilled. It’s to be assumed that even if a Role Holder’s clock is killed, Julius simply makes a new watch to facilitate that role.

Ok…so back to these faceless people.
The Faceless are the every day people of the world. The shop owners, gardeners, park attendants, guards, maids, and any other needed person. As far as I’m aware, they live normal lives and have families just as any person does. They even have names I’m told, but they never seem to say them. Alice eventually is able to tell them apart by small physical and personality traits that identifies each person as an individual; this is monumental for a Faceless; so even the Faceless adore Alice, as she gives them meaning and uniqueness.
However, when a Faceless is picked to fulfill a role, most seem to be unhappy about this; despite being given a life of meaning.

Wait, I thought you said an After Image takes the clocks and…
They do :/
The only explanation I have for this inconstancy is a lack of knowledge. What I believe is that at the start of a new ‘game’ the Role Holders are selected from the Faceless, and then the game begins. When a life is discarded (yes, discarded, think a deck of cards), an After Image seems to fill the role, as no matter what a 9 of clubs can’t just become a face card. Instead, a spirit from the discard pile pops back into existence with the clock to fill that Role.

Confused! I’m confused! What?!
Ok. Think of WWW as a game of cards. The Role Holders are the face cards. (King, Queen, etc…) and the Faceless are just the numbered cards in a deck. Now imagine that while you’re playing, there’s a discard pile. In order to be put in the discard pile, the card has to be ‘killed’. (Think like dominoes, where the ‘bones’ are actually kept in what’s called the ‘graveyard’.) This would be the equivalent of Ace shooting Boris in the face and ‘killing’ Boris. Boris would disappear, leaving behind his clock. His After Image is sent to the discard pile, and his clock gets put back into the deck to be reshuffled.
An After Image would then take the clock and assume the role, becoming Boris. Or, at least the Cheshire Cat. I don’t know if they keep their names or not, it was never said.

Ok, no more on the world, that’s too effing confusing. Tell me about Alice, what’s with this ‘everyone loves Alice’ bit?
One of the themes of the series is the difference between love and infatuation, and the disillusionment of love as a whole.
At the start of the ‘game’, everyone is infatuated with Alice, but they call it love. There are some reasons and theories to this, but all you need to know is that some are out to use Alice, and others simply are fascinated by her because she’s not like them.
As time goes on their relationship with Alice changes. Depending on who, as they begin to really love her they might push her away, or become more like her, or become more like themselves.
Like any relationship, love changes a person.

Doesn’t Alice just ‘wake-up’ or go home or whatever?
In short, no.
But she could. Go home I mean, this is a real world and not a dream.
I don’t think you’d want me to explain this, as it’s a huge effin’ spoiler. If you’re curious and never intend to read the series or play the game, PM me.

That’s all very nice, but what does this have to do with TLN?
Read the next post~

WWW in TLN
-AKA how the hell is this gonna work in RP-

- I am NOT the definitive resource on this, as there are many people with WWW/HnKnA pets/quests here at TLN, and I am but one of many.
- If and when we collectively make a decision on some things, I’ll update this post.

As of Right Now

- It is to be assumed that Wonderland is currently treated almost like a town or city. It is there, anyone can visit, but only WWW/HnKnA Noodles live there.

- It is to be assumed that guild RP will be limited to WWW/HnKnA pets until we know what we're doing exactly. I don't think we're limited RP to just other WWW Noodles permanently, but until I have confirmation I'd rather err on the safe side.

- There will be no death! Despite the lack of value life had in the games, no Role Holder was ever killed during them, and it would be well within cannon to assume the same here. I myself will never kill off Boris.

- There will be acts of violence! Boris is destructive by nature, I will try to give forewarning if Boris means your Noodle physical harm. He will never kill a Noodle unless the other owner wishes it.

- I am leaving the subject of them having clocks for hearts as ambiguous. I will simply just never RP anything about Boris’ heart/clock, unless the other owners can reach an agreement on whether or not the Noodles should have hearts or clocks.

- I am RPing Boris as if he’s already met Alice and she’s starting to change his opinion on the value of life. If I did not do this, Boris would be a very unstable and dangerous Noodle to be around. This was the easiest fix in my opinion in making him approachable while staying in character.

- I am RPing Boris with a gray view on death. I will not state in RP why, unless the other owners can reach a decision on whether or not to include the After Image dilemma. I will simply act as if Boris has loose morals when it comes to lives.

- In the games, it showed the characters having abnormal healing powers, healing after each time cycle turn. I will try to downplay this in RP, but even if Boris sustains massive injuries, he will heal, and rather quickly. Just not instantaneously like in WWW.

- In WWW Boris has the ability to appear anywhere he so desires through the use of a door, being that he is the Cheshire Cat. They barely made use of this in the game, and I plan to use the same discretion. I might not ever use it. If I must because there’s no way around it without breaking character, I will let you know ahead of time.

- Boris will act as if all of the other characters are created and he knows them, even though they’re not created yet.

Background
Boris doesn’t have one. Plain and simple.
He either doesn’t know or doesn’t talk about it. The furthest back he’ll ever mention is when Alice first arrived.
He lives at the Amusement Park in his own suite given to him by Mary.

Age
Unknown. Seems to be about 19

Alignment
I play him as a True Neutral, with a slight bent towards good, and a slight bent towards chaotic

Personality
Feline. xD Often lackadaisical in attitude until you hit a nerve. He can be possessive, overly aggressive, offensive, and sometimes downright childish. He can also be caring, funny, giving, thoughtful, and righteous.
He has the vigor of youth and is often passionate about whatever he's speaking on, if you happen to find something that gets his attention.
he can be condescending and wholeheartedly sarcastic, often manipulative in even the best of situations; though his reasoning might show that his heart clock is in the right place.

Likes
Weaponry (his pistols, specifically), things that are both practical and beautiful, riddles, thrill/danger, crushing the competition, pyrotechnics, machinery, high places, challenges, fish, night, and Alice.

Dislikes
Being fooled or gotten the better of, being bored, summer days, most repetitive or loud noises, a mystery he can't solve, being told what to do, the boring and mundane, loss of control.

Alliances
None

Feuds
The Joker, if that counts.

Plots
Right now I'm waiting on more HnKnA Noodles before getting things underway. It's assured that Boris will -try- to end up with Alice.
As far as I know, there's no one else questing a HnKnA Noodle that has showed an interest in ending with Alice, so we'll see what happens.

SORRY
Boris will never be up for romantic plots. He is planned out and is only available for rp as either a friend, enemy or just plain Boris.
Doesn't mean it's not fun, just means there's no chance of bowls.

ALL RP IS LOGGED ON THE FOLLOWING PAGES

(or, at least what I remember to log Dx )

Relations

Family....Maybe

User Image - What started as something borderline hate became understanding, and with understanding came some modicum of forgiveness. Now they are starting to need each other, care for each other, and dare I say it? ... No, because Boris would break my fingers.
Boris Vision: Yea, it's Cy. What, you want an explanation? I don't have one.

Friendly

User Image - Nearly a little sister. Energetic and seemingly an unstoppable bundle of cute curiosity; her and Lavi seem to bring out the best of Boris. Or at least the protective big brother. He's rather dotting on Giggle, enjoying her upbeat company. He tries to be a good influence, but probably fails horribly.
Boris Vision: his adoptive little sister. 'Nuff said.

User Image - Now that lil' Lavi has grown up those emotionally awkward situations from her youth have only gotten worse. It seems Boris just can't find a way to get her to feel comfortable around him. Or maybe it's the other way around? Everything is so confusing right now. She's still precious to him, and if anyone were to try and hurt her he'd kill them.
Boris Vision: Sister? Friend? His Conscience? Jimminy Lavi, paging Jimminy Lavi, to the bad Boris decisions department please~

Neutral

User Image - She's definitely entertaining, and Boris is certainly interested in meeting Anat again. In fact, she's promised to. Or held to it by a dare, rather.
Boris Vision: A hot mom. What? No seriously.

Aggressive

Something Else

User Image - Somewhere in the gray area between friendly and aggressive. Stylo shares the same penchant for violence as Boris. However; Boris perceives Stylo as a threat to Gig, which makes him a possible enemy.
Boris Vision: the interesting junk yard dog down the street that plays by chewing apart tires, and has a knack for getting off it's leash. Fun, but hazardous if he got loose and came too close to loved ones.

Always After Alice

What to say?
Alice is the reason that Wonderland has come alive again. Like a carousel who's on switch was hit by just one person, suddenly the whole world is alive with lights and sounds, music and motion, all on display for just one special person.

Alice.

The whole world is drawn to her, 'alive' because of her, and Boris is no exception.

But now that everything is 'on', the whole world is watching each step she takes, and understandably she can't be everywhere at once. Since she doesn't live at the Amusement Park, Boris has been bored at best.

Causing all sorts of trouble and mischief, he's been world-hopping to keep himself preoccupied, and thus has stumbled into the world inhabited by Noodles.

Though not quite his home away from home, it keeps him entertained while he sorts out how best to finally make Alice notice that him.

Inner Workings of a Cat

His bed looked soft and inviting, illuminated with afternoon sunlight streaming through the dirty windows he never bothered to clean... or the black curtain that had been haphazardly put up; the chain network on his ceiling perhaps not the best strategy for suspending everything. Maybe he should fix that at some point. He looks again at the bed and decides it can wait until later, really wanting nothing more than a nice afternoon nap.
Pouncing on the rather barren bed, he squirms for a little while, finding a comfortable position with half of his body hanging off the side. Dangling an arm restlessly, his brow furrows as he frowns, thinking on recent events.
Turning his head to look at the temporary pin on his furry boa, one of a little blue butterfly, he wonders why Gig hasn't been around lately. Worry wasn't really an emotion he was accustomed to, but he'd been experiencing it a lot as of late.
Snorting, he rolled over, frustrated. Girls were nothing but trouble! Ugh, if it wasn't Alice, it was Lavi. Or the lack of Giggles. And whatever happened to Anat anyway? Was she avoiding her promise?
Why had he made her promise that anyway? What would he do if Alice didn't care that he spent the whole day alone, at the park, with another girl? Probably kill something, that's what.
Covering his face with a hand, he peeked from between his fingers at his ceiling, not wanting to admit sleep wasn't coming.
This whole mess with Lavi was just...
What was going on inside of her head? He didn't understand her nearly as well as he thought. Were all females this weird It was like he was afraid to be himself, lest he piss someone off. It just wasn't cool.
Using his boa as a pillow, he curled up again, deciding none of this was worth losing precious sleep over, and proceeded to stare at the wall until he grew frustrated.
Growling in the back of his throat, he bounced off the bed and grabbed some of his favorite knives from a drawer, slamming the door on his way out. Maybe some time with the Twins would help him get his mind off of this crap.
