This was the first time Xavier was the one waiting on this side of the hospital room.
He'd been hospitalized twice now, once for a broken arm in the halloween party gone wrong, and the second after the battle of Elysion. It was much easier to lump the later experience as a giant ball of suck than to try to individually recall all the injuries that had landed him there.
But this was the first time sitting in the waiting room, waiting endlessly for someone to come either tell him to go home since he had no relation to the older man, or to tell him that he could go see him.
Tallulah had been different. He'd been able to go in and out as he wished. There had been no fidgety waiting room wait. Just fidgety room wait.
That, and he had no idea what had happened to her back then. This was completely different.
And so, Xavier waited.

The doctors told Xavier he would be able to see Tony as soon as they were done stitching him up. The injury took a little while for them to deal with, and the librarian was brought into a recovery room some time later.
He was a little groggy when he woke from the drug induced haze, making a low groan in his chest before his head moved and he then opened his eyes slowly to look around. It occurred to him, as the fog over his mind lifted, that he was no longer in an alley. He was not powered up and he was not surrounded by enemies.
And a corrupted senshi did not have his hand in Tony's chest, fingers around his starseed.
It was difficult to remember everything that had happened following that moment. His mind had blanked, but it would come back to him. He was sore and tired, and looked around to see Xavier nearby, remembering that Themis had been there.
"Did we win?" He asked, smiling thinly.

After he had been allowed inside, Xavier had taken place in the nearby chair, leaning back against the wall on only two of it's legs. He was silent as he waited for Tony to come back to, eyes looking quite small. He hadn't... exactly been able to sleep in the waiting room. Too much noise.
That sounded ironic.
"Well." He let himself fall back on all four chair legs with a soft thug. "That depends of your definition of 'win'. You're still in one piece and the b*****d senshi is probably out of commission for a long while, so I'd say we won."
Even if they'd gotten away. But that wasn't important.

"Sounds like a win to me," Tony scoffed, resting back against the pillows. His head felt heavy, as did his limbs, and he was floating in a strange puddle of goo. He took a slow breath, shifting a bit but not accomplishing much.
He hated the hospital, but he imagined he was going to be stuck here for a bit.
"Were you hurt? I admit everything sort of... blurred together at the end there. I think I went in to shock," he sighed, thinking back and frowning as he pulled the memories up. Being stabbed, that hand in his chest, Themis arriving in time to save him. He couldn't remember powering down, but clearly he had.
He groaned and rubbed his chest thoughtfully.
"I could feel his hand... he was trying to pull out my starseed. If you hadn't have shown up... he would have killed me..." he looked at his friend, shaking his head. "I can't believe it's that easy..."

"Enough of a win. You're still here." That was the important part, through...
If the captain hadn't teleported out... He had no idea how far he would have went in his rage.
In ways, it felt like going right back in the beginning again, that incertainity.
He had to squash it before it could eat him whole again.
Xavier visibly winced at the last statement. Getting his starseed fondled was not something he'd had... the pleasure of ever going through.
"...You knocked him off, actually." He said. "You did it as I stepped in." if it hurted as much as he had heard, he wasn't surprised that he simply wouldn't remember. "That was dangerous, but he let go. He went flying to the wall. I, ah." He shook his head. "...Worsened him a little but, through I think he was busted before I ever got to him. Something in the chest. Probably a rib."

Tony nodded his head, feeling woozy. It was the drugs moving through his system, of course, and he blinked slowly in an effort to clear his head a bit after a wave of sleepiness passed over him. He was alright, though, and could keep himself awake.
"Did I?" He thought back, remembering that moment fleetingly. He remembered that feeling, the pain and terror, of it, which made him shudder. There was a switch in his mind that had been turned, and he had attacked Alunite with everything he had in him. Just to save his own life.
Would he have killed to protect himself? What was the purpose of his efforts to try and stop this war without ending lives, in the end, if his own sense of self preservation allowed him to even consider that method? He could preach until he was blue in the face, but it would not get him anywhere, in the end, if he did not stay true to his beliefs.
Maybe he hadn't been trying to kill, just to escape. Maybe he would had held back, had aimed specifically, or maybe he had just been lucky he hadn't hit the corrupted senshi in a more fatal area.
He didn't really know.
"Well... I'm glad you stepped in when you did, in any case. There were two of them there, and I was... I still owe you my life. Again." He smiled thinly.

Two versus one weren't very nice odds, especially when the two were stronger than you were at base. But there was a question running through Xavier's mind.
Why ? He didn't hear of the negaverse truly ganging up on one sole individual often and... Why Camelot ?
It didn't make sense to him.
"Next time, you should just run, when you're overwhelmed like that." He wasn't trying to patronizing, and he hoped he wasn't coming across like that.
Truth was, Themis wouldn't always be there at the exact same moment Camelot needed him. The page had gotten very, very lucky.

Tony nodded his head, looking chided. He hadn't meant to let himself get ganged up on, after all, and he would not have entered a fight if he had realized there were two of them. Both stronger than him.
It had been a very stupid, and reckless, decision, and he knew his own bias had been to blame. He knew Alunite from before, knew he would just keep coming back and hurting people, and he had thought that he could stop him, somehow, or teach him some kind of lesson.
Fighting wasn't the answer. He knew that. Yet he had to learn it again the hard way.
"The Captain came out of no where. I didn't even feel her energy until her weapon was sticking in my leg. It was a trap... and I walked right into it."

"A trap...." Xavier mused. This only made his other question more pronounced.
Why Camelot ? There were many more he could think of that were more pressing threats... Unless the negaverse had something against knights in particular. And he'd only met two...
Xavier sighed. This was all so unclear. "I have no idea why they'd gang up on you in particular."

"I think I might have asked for it. It seems I keep getting myself stuck in these kinds of things. That woman that... stabbed me... she's tricked me before. I don't know why, to be honest. But the corrupted senshi... we've met before. I ah..."
He cleared his throat, smiling a bit. Thinly, but looking embarrassed and rather guilty.
"I smashed him in the face with my shield the last time we met. So I don't think... ah... likes me. At all."
Clearly, since he had tried to rip the guys damn starseed out.
"I think I need to rest a bit," he said groggily. He was having a hard time speaking a bit, the drugs in his system still strong. or maybe he was trying to escape the conversation and unsettling thoughts and fears that came with it.
He would think about things when he was feeling better. That was it.

...Oh. Well, that explained it. Through, if they apparently had a vendetta against him... Perhaps he would need to keep a closer eye on things.
"Maybe you should patrol with someone else, at least for a little bit ?" There were more knights.. right ? Through he'd seen so little. Heard names, but little more than that.
"Yeah, you should." And so did he, actually. Xavier shook his head a bit. "I'll drop by later today. Try to sleep a little, alright ?"
He got up, then, and walked to the door, stopped, cast one last worried look at Tony, then finally did leave.
It was hard, to see the man who had been his rock for so long smashed in pieces.
