Synopsis
The War To End All Wars, also known as World War I, was thought to be a war so brutal and massive that no more would be fought by the end of it. While history proves this prediction to be false, for many of those who participated, it was indeed the last war.
The Details
This is an alternate history Rp, meaning that while the main pieces remain mostly the same, there can be a lot of variation.
Germany doesn't necessarily have to lose, and the countries that were involved don't have to be the only ones. Some of those that did participate don't need to be there, if nobody wants to play them.
As far as technology goes, a good deal of ideas are welcome.
If you want to have a prosthetic limb, you can, but it can't give you super strength. If you have a missing limb, it should be a hindrance more than helpful.
Try to keep things plausible to the time. You won't be using a flintlock rifle in a time when people were mostly using bolt-actions, but you also won't have an AK-47.
Now to speak of ranks. I know that a lot of people want to be "General of the Army", but we can't have that. If your character got their rank from combat experience, then they are an NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer), and likely won't get any higher than Chief Master Sergeant, in which case you would be a SNCO (Senior Non-Commissioned Officer). If they're anything above that then they went to a school to be trained for their rank. There are no Generals who've killed a million men to get to their position. That just doesn't happen.
Also, to avoid confusion, it would be nice if people added a location/time designation to their posts.
Example:
German Lines - Battle of the Somme
2:31 AM
Barrett dug a hole into the side of the trench for no particular reason while he waited for orders.
British Lines - Battle of the Somme
2:33 AM
Random British Guy actually prepared for the fight to come, unlike Barrett.
Obviously you should do better in the content than what is shown above, but it gives an example of how to let people know that they're being interacted with, aside from including their names (or rather a description of the enemy, if you should be fighting another player, reminiscent of the actual descriptions of their character) into your posts. It also makes it obvious that you're not in an area or a time with another character. The posts in this thread don't need to be in chronological order, either, as they are stories that are mostly independent of each other, unless you're interacting with another person, in which case you'd need to match their location and time.
Make sense?
Rules
AMP 2.0
Aside from the guide on how not to do unpleasant things in an Rp, which you'll find when you follow the link above, I have a few basic things that I would like to have respected.
1. No Godmodding, puppeting, speed hacking, etc. (AMP shows you how to avoid this)
2. PM me your profiles with "The Great War" as the title so I know that you read the rules.
3. I will add more rules as I see fit.
