Synopsis

The War To End All Wars, also known as World War I, was thought to be a war so brutal and massive that no more would be fought by the end of it. While history proves this prediction to be false, for many of those who participated, it was indeed the last war.

The Details

This is an alternate history Rp, meaning that while the main pieces remain mostly the same, there can be a lot of variation.

Germany doesn't necessarily have to lose, and the countries that were involved don't have to be the only ones. Some of those that did participate don't need to be there, if nobody wants to play them.

As far as technology goes, a good deal of ideas are welcome.
If you want to have a prosthetic limb, you can, but it can't give you super strength. If you have a missing limb, it should be a hindrance more than helpful.
Try to keep things plausible to the time. You won't be using a flintlock rifle in a time when people were mostly using bolt-actions, but you also won't have an AK-47.

Now to speak of ranks. I know that a lot of people want to be "General of the Army", but we can't have that. If your character got their rank from combat experience, then they are an NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer), and likely won't get any higher than Chief Master Sergeant, in which case you would be a SNCO (Senior Non-Commissioned Officer). If they're anything above that then they went to a school to be trained for their rank. There are no Generals who've killed a million men to get to their position. That just doesn't happen.

Also, to avoid confusion, it would be nice if people added a location/time designation to their posts.

Example:

Barrett Jaeger

German Lines - Battle of the Somme
2:31 AM

Barrett dug a hole into the side of the trench for no particular reason while he waited for orders.

Random British Guy

British Lines - Battle of the Somme
2:33 AM

Random British Guy actually prepared for the fight to come, unlike Barrett.

Obviously you should do better in the content than what is shown above, but it gives an example of how to let people know that they're being interacted with, aside from including their names (or rather a description of the enemy, if you should be fighting another player, reminiscent of the actual descriptions of their character) into your posts. It also makes it obvious that you're not in an area or a time with another character. The posts in this thread don't need to be in chronological order, either, as they are stories that are mostly independent of each other, unless you're interacting with another person, in which case you'd need to match their location and time.
Make sense?

Rules

AMP 2.0

Aside from the guide on how not to do unpleasant things in an Rp, which you'll find when you follow the link above, I have a few basic things that I would like to have respected.

1. No Godmodding, puppeting, speed hacking, etc. (AMP shows you how to avoid this)
2. PM me your profiles with "The Great War" as the title so I know that you read the rules.
3. I will add more rules as I see fit.

-Pre-made Characters-

Gaia Name: Barrett Jaeger
Character Name: Barrett Jaeger
Age: 47
Gender: Male
Country: Germany
P.O.B: Bischofsburg (Prussia)
Rank: Oberleutnant (German equivalent of a First Lieutenant)
Personality: A rough, hardy man, Barrett tends to give off the "tough guy" vibe, which is fitting to his massive structure, but acts as a protector, rather than a bully.
Appearance: Barrett is a large man by any standard, standing at 6'7" and with an athletic build. He has been described as "a bear in human form", and has yet to dispute any such comparison to bears whatsoever. His uniform is worn in the manner of a man who values function over form, with the sleeves rolled up past the elbow. Over his uniform top, he wears the standard leather harness, which basically consists of suspenders attached to the belt with various pouches and other bits of leather connected between the two main straps that come down over the shoulders and chest.
His chosen form of headgear is a black beret bearing a Sturmtruppen badge on the left side. He also sports a chinstrap style for his facial hair, though it is kept trimmed and does not encroach upon the chin as it often does when worn by others, and right-parted head hair.
His eyes are an odd mix of grey and blue, though the color favors the blue hues in that mix.
Specialty: Hand-to-hand combat
Bio: In the years prior to the war, Barrett had been a well known boxer, bearing the nickname 'The Bear of Prussia'. He was far from the top, but famous nonetheless. He had earned the nickname, when, due to his strong punches, one opponent commented that the blows were "...how I imagine being swatted by a bear would feel".
He didn't pay too much attention to politics, but did read the newspaper quite often, and the growing aggression of European countries towards each other did not escape his notice. He had little doubt that he would be recalled into service from his position in the reserve forces, where he had been placed after the Samoan Civil War. Needless to say, he was not at all surprised when a letter from the German military offices came to confirm his theory.
Before long he was being fitted for a new uniform, as the standard style had changed drastically since the last time he had served, and was being reeducated in the use of firearms, which had also undergone major transformations in the years since 1889.
The next thing he knew he was in the trenches and in command of a fairly large group of soldiers.
Weapon of Choice: Digging Spade
Extra Information: Barrett's daughter died six months after the war started in 1914 at only 4 years old, causing him to unofficially adopt the squad's secret orphan, the sniper, Adelind.
Also, he likes cigars. A lot.
