Fishing, a skill know quite well by birds, crocodiles, man, and the occasional cat. Ajala, however, was not one of those cats. For her the art of fishing was more like an annoyance, because she could not figure out how it was done. Was there some kind of note she was missing? She saw the fish. She swiped at the fish. She should have the fish, but no, the fish always got away one way or another. Why couldn't she get this right?
Giving an exasperated sigh, the blue lioness angrily pawed at her own reflection. Anger was not something that was normally painted on her face, but this could be called a special occasion. After all, with the rising summer heat food as far and few because the normal prey has moved on to greened lands. Until the rain decided to fall from the sky once more all Ajala could do was attempt to fish, or go around scavenging or stalking the rare sight of a zebra or gazelle still roaming the dry lands.
Fishing seemed easier at the time, but she just ended up proving herself wrong.
"Stupid fish..."

Lazuli had been in the area to catch some prey to eat but soon was distracted when he heard someone smacking water around. looking for the source of the sound and when he finally saw what was going on he couldn't him but chuckle loudly. it was rare he was amused with anything since he was the serious type since both his parents happen to be the innocent carefree type. so he was always making sure they were never getting into any danger. " the stupid fish giving you trouble?" an amused smirk was on his face even though it was clear the female was frustrated with the fish.

Ajala's ears flicked at the sound of a stranger's laugh. It was bad enough that she was failing at something as simple as fishing, but to have a spectator watch her in her failure, now that was just embarrassing on another level.
Giving a huff, the lioness just went about carefully wading in the river, her eyes only leaving the water every now and them to keep an eye on the pastel like stranger.
"Maybe. Maybe not. I like to think of it as them having a high need to survive. That's all. I want to eat. They want to survive. They are currently winning. Nothing more. Nothing less."
Spotting a fish nearby, Ajala went still as she waited for the it to swim closer to her. As she raised a paw to strike it she was beaten as large bird swooped in and grabbed it from right under her.
"...I'm never going to win..."

Lazuli went to the edge of the water and laid down. "i get that. sometimes the prey does get away since we can't always win." he then put his paw out to the water and started to swirl the water with a extended claw. though he did take glances at her as he was enjoying this whole thing. though he busted out with laughter when he caught sight of the bird swooping down and snatching her fish away. he was quick though to put a paw over his muzzle to stop his laughter and then coughed a little since he felt he was now being rude laughing at her expense. " sorry for the laughing.......but ummm maybe i can offer some help? that is if you want it after how rude i was laughing at your expense."

Taking a deep breath, Ajala did her best to keep a calm exposure. Anger wasn't something she liked to feed in to, and she didn't want to go picking a fight with a complete stranger, even if he found clear amusement from her expense. Besides all of that though, he didn't seem like a threat. At least not at the moment anyway.
"And what exactly could you do for me stranger?" her tail flicked at the question as she watched the bird fly off.
Giving a sigh, she moved over towards the bank and quickly shook herself dry before staring down at the male.
"...Besides lying there and finding entertainment as my lack of skill and luck anyway. Please, do amuse me with what knowledge you have."

He could tell that he had aggravated her with his laughter, which was why he figured he would try to make it up to her. "well i don't know...........maybe i could catch a couple of fish for you and i. as a way of apologizing for the laughter, though you have to admit the bird beating you to the fish was amusing." getting to his feet, he stared at her and wondered if she would allow him to make things up to her. " unless you rather me leave you alone."

As her anger started to vanish, she wouldn't help but ponder the stranger's offer. On one hand she didn't want to bother him with her own problems, but then again he was the one who offered the help to her, and it would be kind of rude to decline, right? In a ways it wasn't as if Ajala had much of a choice. She was hungry and hadn't had a good meal in days, so this male's offer of free food could be her only shot at a meal for a few more days.
"Fine then." she said as she gave a small smile. "Let's just see how much better you are at fishing than me, and if you can beat a bird to a meal, unlike myself."
Flicking her tail, she scooted back to the water's edge where she took a seat.
"Hopefully you can put on a good pre-dinner show, stranger."

Lazuli was now grinning when she accepted his offer and even made a joke at him. " we shall see what i can do." slowly he stepped out in the water and tried to splash around as he did so he wouldn't scare the fish. when he finally reached the spot he wanted, he stayed as still as a statue after he slowly raised a paw and kept it raised. muscles tensed up, he had all his focus on staying still and watching the water for any fish that came near him. it only took a few moments before a fish did come within his striking range and he as quick as possible took a swing at the fish causing water to go flying everywhere it a huge splash. the fish was unlucky as Lazuli's aim had been spot on and so when huge splash of water was over it had landed at the water's edge flopping around like crazy.

'How did he catch one so easily?' she thought to herself as she watched the fish fly and land a little ways away from where she was currently sitting.
Maybe it was a good thing she accepted his help, however she knew that unless that fish was finished off then the catch would be a failure, and the meal lost. So, in an attempt to do her part, she quickly padded her way over towards the helpless creature and leaned in to grasp it her jaw. However, with a quick smack to the face by its tail, she quickly learned the fish wasn't as helpless as it looked.
"..."
Ajala quickly shook the smack off and figured it a fluke, so she once against attempted to pick the fish up only to get smacked again. Clearly, the fish wasn't going to go down without a fight.
'Well if it doesn't want a toothy death, then I suppose I could always let it suffocate..'
With that thought in mind, the lioness quickly swiped at the catch to move it away from the bank so it wouldn't have a chance at escaping. While it was a quick and easy move in theory, it did come at a price, as Ajala found out when the fish twisted around to bite at her paw.
"...Mmm!..."

Lazuli didn't mind that he now was soaking wet from catching the fish as it was all worth it to get on the female's good side. as he stood there in the water watching her try to deal with the fish he had caught for her, it made him burst with laughter as he watched the fish bite at her. "don't tell me i caught you a fish that attacks." shaking his head with amusement, he didn't know whether he should just let her deal with the fish or if he should go over and help her. though he probably already was going to be on her bad side again with him having laughed at her yet again but he just couldn't help but be easily amused. now giving a chuckle with a paw over his muzzle, he just stood there watching and hoped she wouldn't need his help wrangling the fish.

Biting her tongue and giving a light whimper, Ajala did her best to deal with the pain shooting around her paw. Really, for an animal that seemed so harmless and toothless, it sure has a powerful and painful mouth grip on it. It was a good thing that most fish seemed idiotic or they would probably bite at any predator that came along. Maybe this one was just special.
"It sure seems like it. You sure know how to pick them; I'll give you that much. Maybe next time you should interview your targets before choosing them..."
Extending out the claws on her free paw, she lioness dug in to the fish and carefully tugged out her paw until it was free. Examining it, it didn't look like there was much damage. Maybe a few cuts and some bleeding, but nothing serious to it.
"Hm, do you normally laugh at the bad fortunes of others, or am I just a special case for you? Keep laughing and you never know, maybe the Gods will switch things up and I can get a nice laugh as well. I do thank you for the free meal though, even if I did end up attacking me. Is there anything I can do to repay you?"

Lazuli kept his paw over his muzzle for a little longer as her fish comment made him wanna burst with laughter. once he composed himself he removed his paw and gave a little cough. " i'll be sure to do just that next time i plan to choose a prey. and maybe next time things will get switched up for me being able to laugh at things so easy." now that he was started to become cold from being in the water while being soaked from head to paw, he shook himself out before getting out of the water. " your paw is alright i hope." he had an apologetic look on his face as he had never meant for the fish to go for her paw. " and no need to repay me for anything. i think i caused you enough trouble with my laughter and catching you an attack fish for your meal. my name is Lazuli by the way."

"I think I'll survive. Though I think my self-esteem took a hard hit." Ajala said with a pout as she started to nibble upon the fish now that it was properly taken care of. She had to admit that the meal wasn't something she was used to, and that it would only fill her for so long, but a meal was a meal, so she couldn't complain. Though, if she had the time she would complain about the unforgettable fishy taste. Even fruit and grass tasted a tad better.
"Lazuli, huh?"
Her tail flicking, she silently repeated the name while finishing off the fish.
"Well nice to meet you, Lazuli. My name is Ajala. If you don't mind me asking, what brings you to this barren little area? Most of the prey won't be returning for a while."

" aww don't let it hurt your self-esteem. i just hope the meal makes up for being so rude with my laughter." Lazuli really would feel horrible if after all his laughter at her expense knocked down her self-esteem. specially when he tried to be polite and kind to those he ended up meeting. " it is a pleasure to meet you Ajala." he made sure to make a mental note of her name so that he wouldn't forget it since he hoped to meet her again. " i came around here looking to catch some fish actually and enjoy the water a bit. which i think i successfully accomplished." chuckling, he was actually happy to of come across Ajala since it wasn't often he got to be around someone that wasn't family.

Smirking, Ajala innocently padded over towards Lazuli once her meal was finished. She had to admit that out of all the males she has ever had the pleasure, or displeasure, of ever meeting, something about this one caught her attention. What it was she could not say, but maybe a few more meeting, if life felt inclined to allow it, could help her with that.
"Hn, I think you managed to catch more than just fish today. Though I am unsure how long you will be able to keep a hold on your other catch. I guess only time will tell..."
