Tilly threw her head back her eyes rolled into her skull. She was chanting and her voice was open and bold. She was trotting around a make shift circle. There were small branches that had apparently been cleaned and then the little doll she always carried with her was in the center.
And then... she stopped and let out a careful breath... "Oh spirits... seen and unseen... grant me luck in the coming days ahead..." She started trotting again. Her head moved with her chanting and trotting. Down two three... and up two three... She would stop occasionally to repeat the phrase.
Satisfied she took her doll back... stuffing it into the sling on her back leg. Glancing around she kicked out the different sticks. She would have to start again...
Different magic... different everything. Well... she could use the same sticks... She placed the sticks back and sighed centering herself. Voodoo magic never worked at its full strength when it was for the user... She snorted.
Her big burly body guard came to mind. Maybe... a small love enchantment... just.. .maybe... She flicked her tail and looked at the random herbs she had gathered... She needed a few different things including a dead bird to make it strong enough to catch hold... But dead birds really weren't that easy to come by.
She huffed. What to do... she needed... a fire... and a dead bird... she had a way to make the fire... her owner had done it many times... but she needed the rare stone... She frowned. Well... she would just have to do without... Putting the rest of the herbs into the circle she swayed and moaned and chanted to the love goddess... maybe they would take pity on her and let it work....

The day had been filled with sparring, training and more jokes from Love about Tilly that Carnivore cared to count or remember. Just what was with the older stallion anyways? It didn't matter, he had Tilly and Love didn't. That's what was important. Finally he had been relieved of his training for the day and he could seek out the company of his pet. Holding his head high Carnivore trotted towards the clearing where he had left her this morning. As he drew near he could hear Tilly's voice loud and clear. Though he couldn't understand what she was saying but if she was in trouble he would kill anything near here.
Quickly he weaved through the trees until he spotted her standing smack dab in the middle of the clearing. Her body swayed about and she was chanting...something. He was instantly curious and an odd tingle ran through his body as he watched her. She didn't appear to be hurt, in trouble or anything else. But just what was she doing. Tossing his head Carnivore slowly began to cross the clearing. He remained silent as he made his way over to her, eyes never leaving her tiny frame as it swayed this way and that.
When he finally reached her he ran his nose along the length of her back announcing his presence to her. "What Tilly doing?" He asked as he let out a huff of air on her back and then turned his head to look at her.

Tilly came up fighting. She turned her tiny hooves lashing out for her attacker. Then it clicked he had asked her something and it had sounded like Carnivore. "Carni?"
She dropped back down and looked at her ruined circle... And just before she had gotten through to them. She glanced back to carnivore and gave a small huff... "Nothing... Just... gonna have to restart."
Grabbing one of the twigs she placed it back into alignment and then frowned as she glanced over her herbs. "I need to go out... i can't stay here... I need more herbs... and a special little stone that creates fire..."
Huffing and tossing her head she mumbled something about incompetent stallions always getting in the way."Come on... you should come with me.. so i can show you the herbs so i can let you get them for me next time..." She flicked her tail once more and started heading out of the clearing... He didn't need to know what she was doing... did he?

As she reared up Carnivore docked his ears, knowing he had been guilty of frightening her. He huffed a bit, he still didn't entirely like her calling him Carni but at least Love wasn't around to hear it this time. Glancing down at the ground as she moved a twig Carnivore wondered even more just what he had interrupted. Hopefully it wasn't too important. But she said she had to restart so it wasn't a lost cause at least. "Stone for fire?" What the hell did she need one of those for? Mares...so confusing.
With a final glance at the array of twigs and herbs Carnivore turned and began to follow Tilly out of the clearing. "What herbs for? Tilly eat them?" She might. They were green things like the grass and he knew horses that ate odd looking plants like the ones that were in the clearing. "Tilly show Carnviore what Tilly need, Carnivore get anything she needs." And he meant that, anything at all she needed he would go out and get. It didn't matter how hard it would be to obtain, he would find some way to do it.
He paused in midstep. When did he become such a damn softy? Well he wasn't sure and at the moment he didn't care. With a shake of his head Carnivore followed loyally behind Tilly much like a pup would when following it's master.

Tilly nodded as she walked toward where she had gotten the bunch of herbs from before... "Of course... In need a fire stone because i need a small fire.. to burn the dead bird i need to find."
She usually stayed away from animal sacrifices. However... she needed it this time... or else... it wouldn't work. She snorted and flicked her tail... "I need lavender... thats this... " She pointed and snipped a few stems and started toward the place she had found the paisley.
"Now next is paisley... and then basil." She had set the lavender down as she up rooted some of the soft plant. She spotted a large twig sticking out a a few bushes and went over to inspect it... It was just what she needed for the bird to rest on..."Carni... i need this stick..." The stick was probably about as thick around as one of her legs.
She frowned and then offered a smile.. "Alright once you get that... i can find the basil... then we need to search for a dead bird..." She rubbed against his leg as she bolted forward once more... "Thank you for helping me with this Carni..."

Like an ever faithful companion Carnivore followed Tilly around as she gathered the herds needed. He made sure to pay extra attention to the ones she needed and to remember which was which. Honestly to him all plants were just annoying green things that all looked the same, stem, leaves, maybe a flower. But clearly there was a difference and Tilly knew what these differences were. Whatever she was using them for he could not bring her the wrong plant in the future.
Oh course the part about the dead bird got his attention most.
"Carnivore know how to get dead bird." He said in an excited manor. This was where his stills would fall into play. Spotting the stick she was referring to Carnivore trotted on over to it and quite easily picked it up in his teeth, the sun flashing off his sharpened canines as he did so.
Her touch distracted him for a moment and Carnivore was left standing there with a dreamy look on his face before he hurried after Tilly. He didn't get far though. As he tried to step between two trees the stick he carried suddenly brought him to a stop, his neck snapping back. What the hell? Carnivore glanced down his snout to notice his dilemma. The stick was too wide to pass though the trees the way he carried it...but he didn't see a solution to the problem either. Taking a step back he tried again with much the same results, the stick stopping his forward progress immediately. Letting out a snort of anger he tried again, putting more force behind it. There was a crack, the stick straining under the pressure but it held together.
Finally he started to tip his head this way and that until, after several moments he came bursting through the trees and looked around for Tilly. Stupid stick. He would have thrown it away if she hadn't needed it.

Tilly after what... two days... was already growing to recognize the presence carnivore had. So she knew where he was even though he walked a few steps behind her. She felt the excitement pour off of him as she told him about the dead bird...
Odd...
She glanced at him and gave him a look that said... 'Really?' Watching him pick up the stick she smiled... he was so strong... Flicking her tail she trotted a bit weaving though a few trees... "I need Maple leaves... not an herb... but very pretty to look at."
And then she heard it a cracking noise.. Stopping she tried to wipe the smile from her face before she turned to watch carnivore figure out how to get the branch through the trees.
"Marni... Monce Mi Mit Ma Mamel Mweeves Mwe Man mo mome..." she tried talking through the mouth full of herbs. She would let him go find the dead bird...

Carnivore stared at her blankly. What had she just said? His eyes blinked a few times but no matter how hard he thought about it he couldn't figure it out. He gave a shrug of his shoulders and continued to follow her. She must have found what she was looking for since they now headed back to the clearing. Carnivore was careful to avoid tightly spaced trees after the last incident with the stick and after a short walk they were back in the clearing. Setting the stick down Carnivore gave his head a shake before looking at Tilly.
"Get bird now, Tilly come." And with that he led the way back out of the clearing, ensuring to keep his pace slow so she could keep up.
They walked for a short while before the chirping of birds could be heard. She hadn't said what type of bird it needed to be, it just needed to be dead. Coming to the stop at the edge of the trees Carnivore's eyes settle upon a large group of birds at the edge of a pond taking their turn drinking and cleaning their feathers in the water. "Birds." He announced in a quiet voice to Tilly. "Tilly stay, Carnivore get bird." From here she would be able to watch him get the bird but not be in the way during the hunt. Carnivore often lost focus on the world when hunting and so he might accidenly run her over if she followed.
Giving her a nudge with his nose to make sure she stayed put Carnivore took off, racing towards the birds. He had to move fast as they would take to the air as soon as they saw him coming, then they would be really challenging to get.

Tilly had taken her time getting back. Once she reached the clearing she carefully set the herbs down next to the stick Carnivore had just set down.
"Ok... i guess... i can come along." She gave one last long look back toward the pile of herbs and her maple leaves. She smiled and trotted along behind him.
Tilly nodded. Yes... they were birds... but they were alive... Then it hit her. He was gonna kill one. Half of her cringed, the other half glowed. She thought it was sweet he was willing to kill something for her. "Yes...Birds..."
Tilly frowned. She didn't take being told what to do well. She flicked her tail and as he nudged her she side stepped just a bit. She contemplated chasing after him just to spite him but she didn't. The thought that he was doing this for her. So she stayed. Laughing she watched him go and chase the birds.

His mind as focused on the hunt, the task before him. Carnivore could only hope that Tilly had listened to him and stayed put at the edge of the forest. He could not control himself much while chasing down his prey. He continued forward. As he neared the water the bird took to the air. Now it would be about getting to one quickly or else he would have to return to Tilly empty handed and that would just not do.
The wall of birds that took to the sky blocked his view but Carnivore leapt into the air. He almost missed, almost. But he managed to snag one by the tail and ripped it out of the air, tossing it onto the ground hard enough to confuse it but not enough to kill it. Quickly he snapped his jaws around the birds neck, killing it instantly. As the bird continued to fly off Carnivore picked up the dead bird and trotted quite happily towards Tilly.
Once back to where she was he dropped the bird in front of her. "Bird." He announced with pride and hoped it would suffice for whatever it was she was doing. "Tilly find stone for fire?" He questioned remembering her mentioning needing a stone earlier but didn't see her pick any up while she was gathering herbs.

Tilly watched carnivore. He hunted well... it surprised her slightly. How could he catch one of those pesky birds so quickly... Poor bird was the only thought that crossed her mind until it was dropped at her feet.
She smiled and looked down to see the mess of bloody feathers. "Thanks so much Carni... now the ritual will be..." Stone... oh shoot she had forgotten the stone. "No i wasn't looking... i forgot..." She raised her nose to sniff. She had smelled the scent back a bit.
"Can you um... carry the bird for me?" She flicked her ears and smiled at him before turning and trotting a bit back the way they came. It took some searching but she found the stone . She pulled it out and grinned. "Got it!" And with that and a flick of her tail... she trotted back to carnivore.. "It will be perfect... Just perfect. "
In gratitude she brushed her cheek against his leg. "Thanks for your help... " She beamed up at him... "Lets go do it!!!"

He smiled down at her and then carefully picked up the bird before following after Tilly while she hunted for the stone. He wasn't sure how she would make fire from a stone, it was a stone, those annoying things he occasionally stepped on, how was it possible that could make fire? Ah well, he would find out if she let him watch.
He bobbed his head as she found the stone. Good now he could see just how it all worked and maybe find out what she was doing and why she needed such a strange array of materials.
As she brushed her cheek against his leg he smiled widely and the bird fell from his teeth. He was quick to move and caught it before it could hit Tilly or the ground. Adjusting his grip on the bird he gave her a bump with his leg and then they headed back to the clearing.

Tilly grinned and trotted beside Carnivore as they walked back to clearing. There was a little skip to her step as she trotted. She would have him... not that she wasn't confident that she didn't already have him. She grinned.
As she made her was back into the clearing she paused to look at her twig circle. Ok so she was going to need a few more twigs. She wandered carefully around the circle to get a few small sticks that would catch fire.
Tilly frowned. She remembered he owner had always needed a circle of rocks inside the circle of twigs... it seemed to contain the fire... "Carni can you help me get a bunch of rocks... small but not too small ok" She smiled and him and moved all her supplies into order. She couldn't do it right without the fire so he wouldn't miss anything... Glancing around she started gathering a few good sized rocks.
"I just need... 13 of them..." She counted again.. "Yep... i got 4... i need nine more..." She grinned and went to find more...

Carnivore set the bird down and glanced over all the items they had gathered. Twigs, dead bird, herbs, leaves, stone for fire. A very odd collection. And now apparently she needed more stones. Nine to be exact. Well Carnivore wasn't good at counting, not in the slightest but surely if he gathered a bunch of stones he would hit the number she needed.
"Stones." He mumbled to himself as he set about with this new task. Stones were all over the place and so Carnivore made several trips from the center of the clearing, to edge and then back to the center with a stone in his mouth. He repeated this step several times more until there was a good sized pile of stones near the other materials. In total he ended up gathering about twenty stones before he stopped. "Now what?" He questioned her wondering if there would be more items to collect or if it was time to do whatever it was she was going to do.

Tilly eyed the pile as it grew and grew and grew... She blinked. "Next... I put the stones in a circle. " She separated the stones she needed and then placed them in a circle around the kindling wood she had just gathered. Taking the fire stone... she threw it against one of the chosen thirteen stones.
It sparked.
Picking it up again she moved the kindling slightly and threw it again. The kindling lit a blaze. She trotted around the fire once. Taking the basil she tossed it in and watched the fire roar. She smirked letting out some of the ancient voodoo words that her owner had spoken before.
The fire popped as if the words made it happy. Picking up the other herbs she tossed them in to the fire. Stating a few more voodoo words. She grinned and picked up her feet as she move to a beat. Up 1 2 down 1 2...
Shaking her head from side to side she glanced into the fire grabbing a leave or two the fire burned blueish and then simmered down to coals... The bird... she had forgotten the bird. Grabbing the large stick and trying desperately to get it on the fire, she raced for the bird... Tossing it on the fire just as the last coal burnt out... "No!!!" She hung her head. Her love spell had failed...
"It didn't work... " She frowned and walked over... "All that gathering for nothing..." Sad and put out she sighed and moved away from her small fire pit to lie down on 'her' bed and look at Carnivore."I'm sorry..."
