Soifra had spent most of the morning watching her father go about his rounds on guard duty; it could be imagined, but she thought she was getting stronger. She hadn't lost him once today, and she was sure he hadn't spotted her. But before she went back to the den, she wanted to give herself a nice long rest so she wouldn't collapse before she got there. It would be nice to be able to run around all day, like her brothers and some of the other cubs could, but Soifra was just happy she had grown strong enough that she was able to stay out of the den for longer periods of time.
As she descended from her hiding place in the tree and into the shade provided by some scraggly bushes at the base, Soifra saw another lion headed this way. He looked very young, and she didn't recognize him from the pride. She ought to warn him before he got within the lands; outsiders weren't allowed to just wander through.
Soifra had to wait until he got close; her cough didn't like shouting. "Hello there! Who are you?"

Kito'dhibiti had no idea where he was. He was old enough to wander off farther from the den, even though his mother didn't like it too much when he and his brother wandered away. But that was what mothers do right?
Though, Kito couldn't help but wonder where his brother went. They were playing and chasing some of the vultures around for fun, but suddenly he lost sight of his brother and now he was in a new area he had never seen before! It didn't bother him that much though. Because his mother told him that eventually, all paths connect together. So he just had to follow a path. If he could find one that is.
He heard a small voice close by, and he grinned. Someone was here! Perhaps they could help him! "I'm Kito'dhibiti!" he said proudly, proud that he could finally pronounce his name without stuttering, "I was playing with my brother, but I got lost!" he called out. He saw it was a lion, just like him, though she was much darker than his family. It was a girl too! Like his momma!
"Who are you?" he asked, "Do you know the way around here?"

"I'm Soifra, and I live here. In this pride. You aren't supposed to come in if you don't live here already, though, cause you might get sick, and the queen doesn't want anyone else to get sick if she can help it. I was following my daddy around because he guards the borders, but I had to take a break."
The speech was longer then usual for Soifra, and very nearly left her winded, so she had to pause before she spoke again.
"You must live far away if you didn't know we were here. Did you walk a long way to get here?"

"Huh?" Kito was confused, he didn't know there would be a pride out here. But everyone in the pride was sick? That was just terrible! "Why is everyone sick? Is there any way to fix it?" he asked, looking over Soifra, as if her sickness was visible. "'Daddy'? You have a dad?" he looked at her in awe. He didn't have a dad. He only had a momma. "What is he like?" he asked excitedly, scrambling around in circles around her.
He stumbled in his eagerness, "Yeah...for a while...but I probably don't live that far since it isn't time to go home yet."

"Daddy says we're sick because a long long time ago a goddess decided that that's how it would be." Soifra paused, both to think and to breathe. "I think the pride made her mad or something. So most of us get sick now. And everyone has a daddy. My mom doesn't live here though, so I have a stepmom instead. A daddy and a stepmom. She's really nice, though. And daddy's the best. He's big and strong and healthy and he has lots of kids but he takes care of all of us. I love him. But since you're here now, do you want to play?"

"What?" Kito said, frowning, "That is a very mean goddess! I mean, you didn't do anything, and I don't think your family did either!" He didn't like the sound of this goddess at all! "So everyone in the pride has a dad?" he asked, almost out of jealousy. There was nothing wrong with his momma and brother or anything, it was just that...well it would be nice to have a dad wouldn't it?
"Oh yeah!" the juvenile jumped up almost immediately, "I would very much like to play!" though...wasn't she sick? "Will you be okay?" he asked cautiously, "Didn't you say you were sick?"

"I think the pride did something bad so they deserved to be punished, and that's why we got the plague, and it was so bad the whole pride was cursed forever and ever and ever. Really bad. It wasn't me or my family, it was lions way way back.
Soifra had always been a bit confused about the pride's plague legend. She kind of thought that a few generations would be enough to punish the people who were bad.
"We can play as long as I don't bleed or have a coughing spit. The healers say the sickness is in the water, so you can't get another lion's water in you. No spit or blood, and we can play."

"Maybe we could go find the goddess and tell her to make the pride better!" Kito stretched out, "It'll be like an adventure!" he grinned.
When he met this goddess, whoever she was, he would have to tell her very firmly that a good friend of his was suffering for no good reason, and that she didn't do anything bad so the goddess should lift the curse from the pride. Though, Kito didn't realize how many goddesses and gods existed and that just finding a deity would be extremely hard.
"Oh! Okay! That shouldn't be too hard then!" Kito crouched down, his tail swaying from side to side playfully, getting ready to pounce.

"I don't think we're supposed to bug the goddess if we ever meet her, on account it might make her angry and then she might make it worse. We aren't supposed to make the gods angry anymore, at all, cause of the plague. So don't say anything if you meet her."
Soifra, for her part, got ready to dodge. She would be alright to play for a little while, but she'd have to tell him if she got tired again. It would be bad if she got stuck out here and had a bad coughing spasm.
