Who would be interested in a relatively simple victorian-era steampunk RP? Open to species, some well-explained magic and an open/no plot?

It would be easy to enter the RP, leave temporarily, and would be fun (as would anything) with the awesome batch of you that frequent here enough to read this.

If you don't like this, say so! I know my time commitment is small so it probably isn't a great idea to begin with.

I would. That is if we actually stick with it this time. Brisbane started but never really took off.

I actually like the idea, personally. It sounds like it would be fun, and I trust enough in us to build a plot on our own.

Alright, so what do you think?

Without a plot would be difficult to do unless you update us periodically on whats happeneing everywhere else, but if everything is set up right I believe this could go a few pages (only a few because things dont always go the way you want them to so wish for a few you might get many). All together though, it is well versed and many people might like it. I know I do.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to work on looking into some ideas for this.

I'm taking it that there is still a war going on during this RP, though who is fighting?

And the rogue creations are more or less like the monsters of Frankenstein, creatures created through madness brought on sudden by sudden bouts of genius insights that pushed foresight and morals out of the way for the sake of science.

Is that to say that except for the creations that can be just about anything the main race is human or human in nature?

Edit: And you're not going to provide a basic profile skeleton?

I like this. I'm joining in. When, I get back from my 2/3 day hiatus.

A well versed back story is needed for this to develop further. First, what happened in the first war? Did anyone stand up to oppose the empire after they conquered the continent? Many other role plays I have been to had a detailed descreption of what, how, and why it happened. You must also state if there is a current Resistence already made to try to right the Empire's wrongs or do we have to start off everything? What happened to those that were living in Bellabost? What about other towns and cities? There are many questions that need to be answered before all can be said and done.

I think that Lil wants to make this so that you aren't dependent upon the back story or a sort of story arch made by the RP creator.

My only gripe is the 'magic' element mentioned as to why the castle in the center of the town is closed off. I feel like I'm about to cross over into steampunk elitist territory here but a good majority of people who enjoy steampunk do not believe that magic and steampunk goes together.

The supernatural, yes with a gothic macabre twist.
But magic...eh it's questionable. At most you'd need to twist it around so that magic itself is steampunked or fits. Or it's in the likely hood that magic was there first but is becoming a forgotten thing.

Science is the new magic, mean creating creatures, monsters, reviving the dead in efforts to cheat death and become mortal gods. It's a type of fantasy I know but some just don't see magic and the industrious methods of steampunk meshing hand and hand. There are even games where the two cancel each other out. But it is possible if the person can do it properly and not just throw it in there.

Oddly enough I already have my characters in mind.

Same here, and I have thought of it, but there could be ways around it without too much contradiction, and also using a bit of folklore to help me with my characters- I have like two so far- and their story.

A back story is not necessarily there to be dependent on. It can be used to tell a story, like a legend or myth.

The only way I can see magic in this is if you could only do a few things with it like say start a fire or make a little water to use to make steam. If it was forgotten magic yes i could see it there but how do you come across forgotten magic?

Well I'm using the fae as a source of magic.

Well in terms of the Victorian era people were into the occult and superstitions. Though steampunk does focus more on machines and science, the hocus pocus type of magic can still be dabbled in in secrecy although at that time the miracle cures and potions they were taking was basically snake oil.

As for forgotten, well take what Loel has in mind, it has a Hellboy II quality to it. People had completely forgotten about it except for a few who studied in the occult.

In a way I think that magic (hocus pocus type) should have a rather limited place in the steampunk setting if it's going to be there. And the bit that we do see of it would be rather gothic.

Well as for HellBoy II I'm not so sure of the heavily populated underground civilizations that is willed with monstrous looking creatures, I'm more likely to use other sorts, I'm heavily leaning into the Irish folklore, and am planning for a Bean-tighe side character (( But she wouldn't need a profile as she's just someone who's there to help my character out )) I'm also looking into other folklore and whatnot to figure out something that cold heavily affect my character. I've already got their name and all- had to look into it as the character is of Irish decent.
