Busara was beyond the border, she knew, but she would return later. Hopefully everyone would be asleep and noone would ask her to many questions. The evening was her favorite time to wander aimlessly. It calmed her over the glaring and revealing daylight sun. Also, it gave her a chance to see the stars not cut off by the mountain.
As of late, the events in her life were throwing her into a whirlwind of anxiety and confusion. Had she really done the right thing for herself by joining the pride? She supposed that she wouldn’t know until she found out, which would require her to stay there.
Deep inside of her, she knew that it was what she needed at this stage of her life. To live in a secure group and never have to worry about surviving to the next day. As dreamlike as it had once seemed, it had become her reality, she just hadn’t been prepared for it.
Sighing deeply in her chest, she lay on the soft grass in an area that was closely bordered by the trees and thought about her life.

With a slight bounce to his steps, a pale lion was drawing closer to the lioness. After an unusual encounter with a little brown hare, Kuon was in a really good mood – though he didn’t really understand the reason himself he could certainly appreciate the feeling.
He could sense he was getting a little too close to a pride and while he’d met his fair share of friendly prides, he knew getting too close to the borders wasn’t always a very good idea. He was humming under his breath as he stopped to make a decision – to go or not to go any further – when he sensed a presence nearby. He couldn’t point out exactly what had alerted him to the notion he was not alone… a stronger scent in the air? A soft rustle? The absence of small creatures in the area? Well, something.
“Hello? Is anyone here?” he called out after a brief hesitation, bright eyes searching for what had tickled his senses.

The soft rustle of the leaves and grass in the light night time wind provided to be a soothing sound to her. As she lay in the grass she willed away all troubling thoughts pertaining to her new pride.
It wasn’t entirely bad. It wasn’t bad at all when she thought about it. Living there, she really had little to no worries in her day to day life. Nevertheless, there was still a pocket of anxiety that distracted her from the positive aspects.
Quickly jerking her head to the side and sitting up, she listened intently as she heard someone approaching. She inhaled the air deeply into her nose and tried to sniff out whoever was there. A male?, she thought she smelled. Looking up at the sound of a voice, she saw that it was indeed a male. He stood not far from where she lay in the grass.
“Hello there,” she greeted the stranger.

Kuon’s head turned abruptly and his eyes locked on the pale shape glimmering in the moonlight. A lioness, rising from the shadows. Without even noticing, he immediately stood a little straighter.
“Oh, there you are! Hello.” he greeted cheerfully, taking a few slow steps towards the grey lioness. She seemed friendly enough but he did his best not to look intimidating. “Are you from the pride? Did I cross the border?”
He looked around for any signs of guards – for all he knew the lioness could be one herself even though it didn’t really look like she was patrolling. He finally caught sight of her tail tuft and Kuon suppressed a grin. It matched her eyes and added a bit of color to the lioness’ coat and he found it amusing for some reason. It suited her, he believed, but that wasn’t something he’d say to someone didn’t even know.

Her body tensed out of habit, she leaned back ready to defend herself if need be. She hadn’t seen anyone else around and had believed that she was alone. Staring hard into the trees, Busara’s eyes widened as a pale golden lion with a deep mahogany mane approached her.
As she gazed at him, she was immediately drawn into his ocean teal eyes and he came closer and she got a better look at him. All thoughts concerning her immediate future left her mind as he spoke.
“Ah, well.....yes, I am from this pride,” she said slowly, as though tasting the words. It sounded odd to actually say it, it make everything so real. “Don’t worry, we’re a little beyond the border, you haven’t crossed it,” she reassured him. She relaxed, and sat in the grass.
Extremely curious about this male she asked, “Do you live around here somewhere? If you don’t mind me asking. Its just that I’ve never seen you before.”

“Ah, good.” The last thing he wanted was to cross a border and run into a diligent guard on duty. Most prides took trespassing very seriously and there was really no point in making enemies when one could make friends, right?
“Oh no… I’m just a wanderer. I haven’t been around here before.” Kuon grinned as he sat down, his tail moving playfully behind him. Not that the idea of being in a pride bothered the lion, on the contrary. He simply hadn’t found the perfect match. That meant he was always curious to know more about all the prides he passed through and he wasn't shy to ask. “So what’s your pride like?”

‘A wanderer huh?’ she thought to herself, smiling at his worried look. Sometimes she thought that she would want back that sort of life. Normally she would be a bit alarmed at an unknown male just outside the border, but this male didn't strike any fear or uncertainty in her. Even though she occasionally missed running free, she knew that she could never go back.
With a far off look she said softly, “I used to wander too, but that was my old life.” Busara thought about her new home and all of it’s attributes before she answered him. Inwardly, she was laughing at herself. It wasn’t so long ago that she desperate to join a group.
Now, she had to think about why she did in the first place. “There are many other lionesses that live in my pride. There aren’t many males, which is why I was surprised to see you,” she said with a slight chuckle,“It’s safe there. No one can hurt us.”

“You used to…? Not anymore? What made you decide to settle down?” he was genuinely interested because it was something he could relate to. He had a feeling the males of this pride wouldn’t be too happy that they had a near trespasser playing around their borders so he knew he shouldn’t stick around for too long. Even the friendliest prides disliked random males sniffing around. “Ah, your males will probably not like my presence then.”
For the briefest of moments, Kuon wondered if he should warn the lioness that it might not be very safe to tell complete strangers that there were few males in her pride. Some less than honest fellows might take it a sign of weakness and an invitation, after all. But it wasn’t really his business and perhaps she just saw him a trustworthy – or at the very least a friendly – lion so Kuon didn’t mention it.
“I have to admit I like this rogue life.” His grin widened. Yes, he liked it very much. “But I’m planning on settling down as well. I just haven’t found the right place, I think. I’m Kuon, by the way.”

“Everyone is in, no one will notice you this far out this late,” she said offhandedly with certainty. She had slipped out the side as the others were settling down inside, and she would have known if anyone was following her. In the time that she had spent in the pride, she had found that everyone was relatively on schedule and generally all did things at the same time.
Smiling at his inquiry, Busara answered thoughtfully,“I lived in the desert. I’m not sure how I got there, but I’ve lived there most of my life,” she paused for a moment, but then confessed, “That isn’t really the kind of place to raise a family now is it? I wanted to live somewhere where I wouldn’t have to worry about surviving everyday. Although.....I do miss it sometimes.”
Gazing at him, she said honestly, “The rogue does have its appeal, but this was one of the better decisions that I’ve ever made, even if I forget that sometimes,” she said chuckling, “If that is what you truly want, then there is somewhere you belong. You just have to find it.”
Having said all this, she immediately felt the mood that had held her slowly melt away. She had nothing to worry about.

“Ah, good. I’d hate to get into trouble.” The little grin seemed to somewhat contradict his words but Kuon meant it. There was no point in clashing with the pride’s males, he would gain nothing from a conflict. “The desert? Harsh place. I know of a pride of giants that live there but never got too close to it. Apparently, I don’t have the right colors.”
The blue-eyed lion chuckled before his smiling expression grew softer as the grey lioness continued speaking.
“It sounds like you’re really happy here. I hope I’ll feel the same way one day.” His gaze travelled far and wide before he spoke again. ”Hey, can you point me in the direction of the nearest waterhole?” All this chatting was leaving him thirsty and even a little hungry as well. He trusted the red-eyed lioness enough to take directions from her.

Thinking to herself for a moment, she said, “I am happy here. I just have trouble remembering that.” She felt silly for having been so worried about the things that she’d been worried about when she’d crossed the pride’s border.
As a matter of fact, Busara had a pretty good idea of what might have been wrong with her in the first place. So, she was confident that her moods were temporary. “Ahh, I think the nearest waterhole around here is the one going northeast through those trees there,” she gestured with her paw in the direction.
“It was good to me you Kuon. I will remember you, and maybe we will run into each other again one day, huh?” Laughing lightly, she turned to head back to her own home. She mildly wondered what the other would end up with himself. Either way, she hoped he found what he wanted like she had.
