The apartment complex was abandoned and condemned, dark windows of broken glass looking out over an empty parking lot. Well, almost empty. A dark, hooded figure crouched over the prone body of some nameless male, digging through its victim’s pockets; a sadly common scene at night for this neighborhood. The only unusual thing was the figure, a woman decked out in an outfit of leather and fishnet with metal bits and lots of lacing; not the average criminal’s choice of clothing. Relieving the man of his wallet, the figure finally stood to inspect its contents.

The wallet, like many as of late, was a disappointment. Receipts and reward cards were carelessly discarded as the woman rifled through it, finally stopping when she pulled out a handful of small bills. They were hardly worth her time, but stuffed them in her boot anyway. Dropping the wallet next to the body, she kicked the body none too gently, flipping him over.

“ Wasting my time,” she said softly,“ but I won’t leave empty-handed.”

Holding her palm out, she watched as the air shift, energy collecting slowly in her hand. No, if nothing else this trash-talking drunk would help her meet her quota.

"I'm all for robbing the innocent, but money is one thing. I think you ought to leave that energy right where you found it, lady."

The Eternal Senshi of Danger hopped down from a railing on the side of the apartment building. He landed lightly enough, though it was clear he was going less for grace and more for impact. He stood, arms folded over his chest soon after straightening up.

He watched the Negaverse soldier with a frown.

To be honest, it felt like it had been ages since he last fought a Nega. Lots of youma and lots of senshi battles, but not so many Negas. It was a bit exciting, though this one was a girl. He had no qualms about hitting girls, especially ones that seemed to be strong.

He didn't waste too much time with introductions. She was a Nega, he was a senshi. He didn't need any more excuse than that. He charged at her, keeping his eye on the civilian she was messing with. He pulled his fist back, ready to begin the fight immediately.

A Senshi. Of course. Mica had hoped that by going to some out of the way place she’d get a pass that night, but in reality she knew it had been a stupid hope. Senshi were like zits, showing up when least wanted.

However, at least this Senshi was… different. A male, and not a wimpy one like that awkward stork-boy she’d fought before. He had protection built into his uniform, which could make for an interesting fight. That and the theme of his outfit was sending up red flags. He had a feather-butt and a belt made out of ******** caution tape, leading to the suspicion that this was not your average Senshi. His short speech followed by an immediate attack only supported this theory.

Well, Mica could deal with this. She had survived one feather-butt already, and assuming this one fought fair she figured she could survive him too. Not without some help though. As soon as she saw the Senshi shift forward she flicked her hand and summoned her spear. The tip probably couldn’t stab through the Senshi’s padding, but it was still could make for a painful swat to the head.

When the Senshi got close enough Mica tried to twist out of the way, but having forgotten about the body she stumbled slightly as she hit it. The punch hit her shoulder, and as she was already off-balance, it was inevitable that she’d fall. Mica slammed the butt of the spear into the ground to stop her fall, kicking out a leg to try and drive back the Senshi long enough to right herself.

Chaonis did certainly live up to his sphere. Whether that was because he was guided by the impulses of Danger that were granted to him by the asteroid whose name he bore, or because he was simply a reckless teenager, was up in the air. Maybe a bit of both, but mostly the latter.

If he was asked, he'd probably not answer and just swing a fist. He wasn't much for spontaneous interviews or answering questions and existential things like that.

Who he was, what he was, why he was. Who really cared? If he didn't, no one else should. That was just being nosy and rude.

He felt his fist hit her shoulder, watching her keenly. He saw the leg coming but it did just what she wanted it to do: he hopped back a small distance to avoid her attack while she struggled to correct her balance. But he was not going to let it be that simple.

He charged for another attack, but this time he swept a foot at her spear.

Aiming for her spear? That was good. Uncommonly good actually, at least for a Senshi. It forced Mica to tuck into a tumble, rolling awkwardly over the prone body and staggering a couple steps as she sprung up on the other side, a faint scowl on her face. She was obviously out of practice since her days in gymnastics, because that had been as uncomfortable as it was inelegant; her shoulder did not thank her for that maneuver.

For all the padding on his uniform, Mica figured it wouldn’t be enough to stop a sideswipe to the knees, especially since knees just weren’t designed to bend that way. Twirling her spear around, she swung the pointed end down and out towards her victim’s knees, figuring that even if she didn’t land a hit she’d at least be off the defensive for a bit.

At least the person that had just gotten steamrolled over was already out of it. They couldn't b***h and moan about being trampled on, at least. As long as they survived, that was the important thing, wasn't it?

Not to Chaonis at the moment, anyway. He was too focused on the fight now to think too hard about any helpless civilians, unless they got too far in the way and got killed. Then it would be his problem, and he would have to do what he could to prevent it.

He was grinning as he watched her roll, shaking his head.

"That was about as graceful as a drunk sumo wrestler," he said pointedly, shaking his head as if he were disappointed. He had his hands on his hips, mocking, but he probably shouldn't have taken the moment in the middle of the fight for that.

So much for focused.

He felt her weapon hit the side of his knee and he cursed, the joint giving out and bringing him down side ways. He was immediately on the defensive, trying to get himself back to his feet, but he knew it left him open. He had to stay on the edge of his nerves now, to try and counter any second follow up attack she threw at him while he was recovering his footing.

at least they were even on embarrassing falls now.

Down was good. Down was very good. If the feather butt was down, it meant she got a breather – not that she’d admit to needing it – and a chance for further attack. Hitting a person while they’re down was considered low and dirty in polite circles, but she didn’t learn how to fight in polite circles. Mica learned how to fight on the streets, and that had its own rules. If he could insult her during their fight then she figured he’d understand. Still…

“ Nothing personal.” She said as she stabbed her spear forward, aiming for his eye.

Granted, trying to stab someone’s eye out was generally considered personal, but Mica didn’t actually know the Senshi, and vica versa. It was just that he was a Senshi and Negaverse soldiers killed Senshi, just like dogs chased cats. So in Mica’s mind, it was nothing personal. If he didn’t want someone trying to blind him, then he shouldn’t have attacked a Negaverser with a sharp, pointy object.

Chaonis was not entirely used to having buttwings to deal with. They made things like this, falling down and getting back up again, surprisingly difficult. Probably because they were made of a fairly hard substance, which he considered to be plastic like his armor.

it could be condensed feathers for all he knew. Or cared.

"Hey!"

He had to pull himself backwards, flopping onto his back entirely when the spear came moving for his face. His eyes were still needed, and he had no intention of letting her take one. Plus, his cocky grin and teasing but alluring winks would be ruined if she struck him in the face with the sharp end of her spear.

He lashed out on instinct, trying to grab hold of her spear and either wrench it from her grasp or pull her off balance again. He was vaguely aware that Negas could banish and summon their weapons at will, but the thought didn't occur to him fully.

"How would you like it if I stuck this thing in your eye?"

For some reason, Mica did not think to banish her weapon when the Senshi grabbed. It was a stupid mistake, and one she would punish herself for later, but for the time being she simply tightened her grip on it, refusing to let it be tugged out of her hand. She did manage to hang on, but the result was that she was pulled off her feet. Not wanting to land on the Senshi - she was not about to get that close to one of them if she could help it - she twisted awkwardly and landed on ended up on her knees at his side.

“ I’d be angry.” She hissed between gritted teeth. “ It’s my spear.”

Mica said it as if that were obvious and explained everything. And to her, it did. As if to prove her point, she jerked back hard - childishly, almost - on her spear, trying to reclaim it.

"That is the point!"

Chaonis paused, looking at her for a moment in the middle of their fight, and a grin split his devilish face. He had made a pun, and he seemed very amused by it. But instead of calling attention to it any further than that, he thought he might just make good on the threat and introduce her to the point directly.

He had to get himself righted, though, so he could get a good swing at her while she was trying to do the same thing. If he could get in there faster, so much the better. His only weapons were his fists, and he had to keep that in mind.

If he didn't he'd get a spear through something important.

He kept his hold on the spear until he felt her pull at it hard. He let it go then, grinning at her all the while. It was a cocky, confident, and daring expression, and he lunged after her as soon as he let go. His aim was to tackle her, and not get himself stabbed.

She should have seen it coming; really, she should have. The Senshi let go of her spear while she was tugging on it, sending her toppling backwards. Then the jerk had the nerve to tackle her, meaning she had Senshi all over her.

" Ugh." It was exactly what she had been trying to avoid. " Please, control your hormones."

Mica was not amused. She wanted the Senshi off. The Senshi's closeness made stabbing him awkward, but she could certainly try thumping him on the head a few times with her spear. Mica tried to wiggle her arm free to do just that.

Chaonis stared at her. Those were his jokes to make, not hers. He wasn't quite sure how to respond at that, in fact, and he had to fight against the urge to look embarrassed. He was not his father: he was not easy to embarrass.

His cocky expression restored itself and he laughed.

It was cut off of course when he saw her move her arm, then get her staff free enough to whap him on the head. He pulled back, not wanting to get himself stabbed, and growled at her.

"Alright, get up then. We'll fight fair. If you can manage that," he growled, suddenly serious. He had remembered that he was in a fight with a Nega, that he was getting embarrassed, and that he was going to have to do a better job unless his goofing off allowed her to actually be able to hurt him or worse. Allowing her to hit him in the head had been the warning.

Chaonis had serious face now.

The Senshi seemed thrown for a minute; good. That had been time enough to get a hit in on him. When he finally got off of her, he seemed more serious. Mice preferred to be taken seriously, but of course that meant that the fight just got harder.

" I'll fight as fair as you do."

Mica didn't actually mean it. She had no intention of letting the Senshi kill her, so she'd teleport away if she had to. That and she considered Senshi magic cheating, so as soon as that Senshi used one of his magic tricks, she'd be free to cheat as well.

"Good," he said with a grin. "Then I won't feel bad about this."

He had always been a fan of brawling. Street fighting. Whatever people called it, it wasn't exactly a fair fight. It was doing what one had to do to win, and taking pride in doing it. There were always some unwritten rules, but in the end, he was not a knight. He was not a noble character with any sense of duty beyond serving his own need to punch things.

Fighting was for himself, as much as it was to stop the bad guys.

"Let's do this," he growled, "Warning! Earthquake Zone!"

He felt his magic flood into his muscles, giving him a boost of strength and speed. He charged at Mica, pulling his fist back to swing at her as hard as he could. He was not going to hold back, and just because she was a girl it didn't mean she didn't deserve to get punched right in the face.

All was fair now.

Mica could of course be mistaken, but what the Senshi had just said didn’t sound like a typical battle taunt. It sounded closer to a potential magic attack. However, no earthquake happened, no lights flashed, and no ropes popped out of the ground to bind her, which left her fixated on the fist heading her way. Her hesitation made it chancy at best that she could fully dodge the Feather Butt’s punch, at which point her brain decided to remind her of something.

It was worth a shot.

Amber Crystal Power.”

The tip of Mica’s spear began to glow, and immediately a faint, orange-y bubble appeared around Mica. The Captain hoped that the shield would at least slow the Senshi and give her time to react.
