Mahiri had been in the Ongozana’Ke for a mere few weeks now. It had been an exciting time for her! Every day a new face, a new place, and something new to learn. Admittedly it was a little overwhelming, but the energetic lioness never lost her sense of adventure about the whole thing. After all… there had been a long journey, and this was finally it’s end!

Mahiri had settled into a little private den not far off from the others, but she often wandered. She liked company and she wasn’t above bothering the other lionesses, even before the sun came up. Anyone she found awake was fair game! Mostly she was getting out of having to hunt today, though. If there was anything she wasn’t overly fond of here, it was her responsibilities, and she took every opportunity to get out of them when possible. So far, this hadn’t been much of a problem.

Today, Mahiri was walking along where the dens were, hoping to see someone out and about.

Machweo rested outside of her chosen den, watching the clouds and the way they outlined against the sky in such a lovely way. The color of the sky always seemed just a bit difference where it touched a cloud, and the sunset-colored lioness never grew tired of watching them. She sighed softly and smiled, content with the world and with herself, if just for this moment.

Then she heard the sound of pawsteps approaching. Such terrible things, sounds. Machweo wished they could be done away with altogether... except, she supposed, for those who had no other way to interact with the world. Getting to her paws, Machweo turned to look at whoever was approaching, and tilted her head. Ah, she knew that green and black-furred lioness, didn't she?

She thought so, but that didn't mean that she had spoken with her very much. "Hello," she called out, hoping to be polite.

Mahiri stopped and looked around when she heard someone say hello. Turning her head, she saw the familiar sunset-pink lioness that she recalled from their travels together in the rogue lands. Honestly, the two of them never really spoke at length, but they had met before, and so in a way it was a welcome change from meeting only strangers. Grinning broadly, Mahiri headed over to the den where Machweo was standing.

“Hey!!” Mahiri called in her overly-enthusiastic way. She was excited, sure, but also she liked others to know just how she felt, so she put a lot of emphasis on it. Always. “How are you? It’s been a long time… where is that blue friend of yours?”

Mahiri looked about, as though expecting to see her around. The two had seemed to hang out a lot while they had been wandering… or that’s what Mahiri thought, anyway. “Ugh, this heat! Way too hot for hunting today riiight?” Mahiri continued her thoughts, even before giving Machweo the opportunity to reply to her first question. Mahiri was just like that.

Machweo let the other lioness' words wash over her, blinking slowly and watching the play of light on the other female's green fur. It was much more interesting than all of that babble that was filling her ears.

"I'm fine," she said, not really bothering to keep up with the pace of the questions. "I believe Ayumu is telling stories," she added, though she didn't know for sure that the blue lioness was doing that. It simply sounded like a reasonable explanation to her.

Machweo sighed and stretched out, tilting hr head to look over the land, and the way the light brought out minute differences in color, while shadow concealed them in its depths. "It is a good day for colors, not for hunting." It was her way of agreeing, really. Heat did much for colors, but it did nothing to ease the difficulty of hunting.

Mahiri nodded excitedly, “Oh, I should go find Ayumu sometime then. I do miss those stories… Well, maybe later. Mind if I hang out with you for a bit?” Without waiting for an answer, Mahiri pranced forward to stand in the shade that the den provided. It wasn’t quite an invasion of space, but someone who was more polite might have considered it rude. Mahiri was not one of those lionesses that had compunctions about getting in other people’s space.

From here, Mahiri turned her head in the direction Machweo was looking… but she could not see anything particularly colorful there. She looked for a while, thoughtfully, before deciding that she might try to change the subject. “How about these boys in the pride, huh? Any of them you like? I want to see what they’re like…” Mahiri had always been a flirt, but they had only been traveling with one male for a long time. Now she was like a cub with a dozen bugs to play with.

"If you wish," Machweo said, not quite sure herself whether she was responding to Mahiri's comment about seeing Ayumu or about 'hanging out' with her. In fact, she didn't understand why the green lioness would wish to spend time around her at all. The other female seemed to love words and talking so very much, whereas Machweo usually couldn't be bothered to chatter, much less about thing she didn't find particularly interesting.

And... boys? Well, hm... to be honest, she hadn't thought about it much, though she did wonder what color combinations of cubs could possibly be produced from some of the males around here. "I have only spoken with Rasmus and one other," she said quietly, turning her gaze to her already-growing collection of small rocks and feathers that she usually kept farther within her den. "Both are nice," the sunset-colored feline added, not entirely sure what her temporary companion meant by asking about the males.

Other lions could be so very strange!

Mahiri didn’t seem to notice at all that Machweo didn’t want to talk. In fact, Mahiri seemed to be making up the lack of talk on Machweo’s end with even more of her own. “Oh yeah, this is a great den! Look at the view from here! Woooow… Y’know, I like my den and all, but it’s so far off to the side, it’s like all the way at the end of the dens. Do you know what I mean? I have to walk farther than practically anyone to see what’s going on.”

When Machweo turned to look at her collection, Mahiri looked as well, and her eyes lit up. “Ooooh! Those are neat!” She turned around to study them more carefully, but thankfully she did not go right for the trinkets to paw through them. “Did the males give those to you? Were they gifts, or did you collect them? I like fancy things like that… Maybe I should start a little collection too! That would be a fun way to pass the time, right?” Mahiri didn’t even seem to notice that she was getting chattier by the minute.

It seemed as though she was going to have a gust for an undetermined amount of time. Machweo didn't... mind, not really, but she simply wasn't a very social lioness and didn't know how to keep a talkative lion happy, especially when she didn't like to talk much herself.

Then the green lioness turned her attention to Machweo's treasures, and she barely held back an exclamation - no-one should disturb her treasures, she kept them in just the right order according to color and hue, and rearranging them would be a hug, complicated task that -- oh, she wasn't touching them. Just talking again. Machweo breathed a silent sigh of relief as she tried to listen to and understand the chatty lioness.

"Most are ones that I have found, but there is a feather from Rasmus," she said quietly, not really sure how that made a distinction in the other female's mind. Colors were colors - all equally beautiful. Did the fact that one was given by a male make it more special, somehow?

As talkative as Mahiri could be, even she was having a little trouble holding up a conversation with Machweo. The pink lioness didn’t seem to talk much. Mahiri decided, after thinking about it, that it didn’t seem like Machweo didn’t want to talk, but more like she didn’t have much to say. Or so Mahiri thought, anyway. She tried to come up with some quick ways to get Machweo to come out of her shell, but these things were not the green lioness’s forte. She mostly just talked, and never worried about much else.

“Oh, do you have a thing for Rasmus then?” Mahiri asked her, waggling an eyebrow and wondering if this might be the sort of thing Machweo would like to discuss. Probably not. To Mahiri, the sunset-colored lioness didn’t even seem to be paying much attention. But that was all right! You couldn’t win over everyone.

“Well, I guess it’s about time for me to go!” Mahiri announced, sounding as energetic as ever, “I might get a nap in before dinner. I hope someone brings in dinner. I sure feel like eating after naps!”

"Thing... for Rasmus?" Machweo echoed, tilting her head curiously. What did Mahiri mean by that? She honestly wasn't too sure. It probably didn't matter anyway, though, since it seemed as though the green and black lioness was about to take her leave.

"Ah... have... a good nap, then?" she said uncertainly, not sure if this was what was polite to say to someone who was leaving to go sleep. Words - they were so complicated and... and so very, very useless. She didn't like them, why did everyone insist on using them? Truly, they served littler purpose in her world.

Gently, she stood and walked over to her collection, nosing and pawing gently at the pieces and taking their colors in another time. She smiled, then turned to look up at her 'guest'. "I hope you eat well tonight," she added, hoping that was a polite thing to say - and she did mean it, really. Mahiri was nice, if overly-dependent on those silly words that seemed to plague everyone.

“Thank you!” Mahiri replied, grinning, when Machweo told her to have a good nap. The pink-yellow lioness still seemed somewhat odd to Mahiri, but the green lioness liked her. After all, Mahiri prized uniqueness in her friends, and the only creatures she didn’t get along with typically were the males who didn’t know how to talk to a lady. Fortunately, there were none of those kinds in her pride.

“I think I will - so many lionesses means lots of good hunting! And good eating.” Mahiri sounded confident. Too bad she herself rarely contributed. “I will see you around? Thanks for the visit and letting me look at your stuff! You should get Rasmus to give you more pretty things, that’s what males are good for! Well, bye then!!” And with that, the green lioness skipped off, brightly happy and in no way aware of the confusion she caused her new friend.
