That's kind of a dur. Anything not manufactured to USDA, FDA, OMG, LOL, BBQ food grade isn't going to be good for much else other than polished sculptures and mechanical parts. Even if the above government agencies are corrupt as hell... Except LOL because they're funny as hell! I love it when they fly their military ROTFLOLCOPTER's. Now I have a image of a pink and blue Apache helicopter shooting paint balls and paint bombs.

Now I have a image of a pink and blue Apache helicopter shooting paint balls and paint bombs. it makes me wonder as i always assumed that stainless steel was nontoxic by its design. so im wondering are there different grades and do some cotian chemicals? and that stainless steel may just be a selling point now.

This sounds like it has more to do with the materials being made for the 3D printing process than it does actual stainless steel.
I'm thinking that there are also probably some specific licensing for food grade products as opposed to things like machine parts. This company might be legally bound to have a disclaimer, similar to how herbal supplements have to be labeled with that stuff about not treating, diagnosing, or preventing any disease. I think it's a legal issue instead of a health issue.

Looking at the composition of stainless steel I can't really see any reason to be concerned about it, health-wise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stainless_steel

Paranoia and elevated stress hormones will kill you before toxic chemicals in most things. There are people alive today at age 90 who lived through world wars, DDT, lead, alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes, plastics, PVC, etc...
Having a certain bar or standard to set is good to keep to but it's not worth your time to worry about every little imperfection. Because nothing on this planet is completely safe. You have more to worry about traffic and automobiles than lead, pesticides, or contrails. Hell I almost drown in my own saliva so much it's a wonder why I don't have a life guard following me every day.

I don't think anyone answered the question as to whether there are different grades of SS. YES. There is. some stainless steel are cheap and have other contaminants... www.mightynest.com a popular eco-store aimed at parents (that i sometiems check out, and wish i had money to buy things from~) only carries (i think) 18/8 (#304) stainless steel products.. let's reference wikipedia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stainless_steel and better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAE_steel_gradesmhmm lots of diff types.
