He was booooooooored. B. O. R. E. D.
Which, given that he was often bored, was not surprising. His attention span was short and if Laec didn't have something to entertain him, then...it would only be a matter of time before he started seeking out mischief and trick his fellow pride members for his own amusement (and the irritation of others).
Unfortunately...most of them were keeping out of the hot sunshine, which meant that there was no one around to tease or prank. Which meant that he'd lapsed into a lethargic state of lying around watching the world float by on its boring way.
Surely there was more to life than this.
"Ughhh....help...me." He groaned, rolling onto his back and staring out across an upside down world. "Heeelp."

Things were changing and Nila didn't like it, not one bit! No, the young lioness had always been possessive of things and that didn't just extend to items she had collected, no it went far beyond that. It extended to every aspect of her life, her parent's attention, her position in the pride, and even the attention of any of her family members.
So when things began to change, when the news hit her that her father had gone missing and this goddess, the one she was sure had once been called 'Mother' by her grandmother, had suddenly appointed new lions into the positions her father and uncle had held. Well she wasn't happy! In fact, the little lioness was down right infuriated with this knowledge.
Of course, it was because she was jealous. She had hoped that Nili would chose her to follow his footsteps and being his chosen 'heir'. She had certainly never expected him to suddenly disappear and for someone not related to her take up the leadership positions in the pride.
Ah, yes. The little lioness was filled with jealousy, it pricked her heart but she did nothing about it. Violence was frowned upon in the pride and she certainly couldn't be prancing around publicly dissing on those chosen by their patron goddess. So she kept her mouth shut and brooded all day long.
That was until she stumbled upon Laec.
She pranced over to him cheerfully, a smile on her face as she stopped to prep herself then suddenly she was flying through the air, pouncing upon him. "Laaaaaaaaaaaaaec," she whined.

Woah! Wait. Someone was coming? Who was up and about at this time of the--oof. Okay...someone who had way too much energy, that was for sure! Oh. He knew that voice.
"Nila?" He coughed, trying to wriggle his way free from the random attack. "That's no fair. I'm the one who's supposed to do the pouncing!" Why hadn't he thought of that? If others were too busy lazing about than being tackled would teach them a lesson, for sure!
Getting himself into 'play' mode was something that came naturally to Laec and, lifting his hind legs, he attempted to shove his cousin's weight away from him and thus give him a chance to retaliate. "You came pouncing on the wrong lion, Nila!" He laughed, rocking from side to side to further enhance his chances of breaking free. "Just you wait! As. Soon. As. I'm. Free."

She laid upon him with all of her weight, making no attempt at removing herself from him. No, she was completely content to just rest on her cousin and possibly whine and moan to him about the changes she believed were coming. When he whined at her she frowned batting playfully at his nose as if scolding him.
"Well too bad," she retorted eyes narrowing slightly as he began to shift beneath her. "Hey! No! I won fair and square!" She squealed as he pushed her away with his hindlegs. She struggled against him going so far as to extend her claws and dig into the ground in an attempt to keep him from moving her. Unfortunately it did her no good, instead it just left deep imprints on the ground as she was tossed off of him.
"Laaaaec!" She whined laying in a heap beside him, slapping her paws against the ground in a fit. "No! This isn't fair! Nothing is going right for me anymore, I hate it!" She screeched, pouting and flailing around uselessly on the ground. It was much like a watching a fish flop around out of water.
It was pretty hilarious. "GOD! EVERYTHING IS RUINING MY LIFE!"

For a moment there he had seriously thought that she was not going to budge and, when at last she relented, he took a moment to breath a sigh of relief before flipping onto his stomach and finding his paws again. "You might have won the first round, Nila, but there's always round two." He gave her a toothy grin and shifted into pounce position.
Unfortunately...she chose that moment to throw a fit.
Boy...it was a good thing he hadn't teased her about how heavy she was getting. Suggesting she was getting fat probably would have had him drop-kicked to the other side of the pride's lands. However, instead of intervening, he simply dropped his hindquarters to the ground and watched; eyes wide and unblinking. Something clearly dramatic was going on. Maybe he ought to have paid more attention to pride politics...
"Uh...Nila?" He reached out a hesitant paw to poke at her, almost afraid it might get bitten off in the process. "What's ruining your life?"

She stopped her fit for a brief moment where she instead turned her head sharply towards him, glaring, as if he knew exactly what was going on and what was inexplicably ruining his life. "Did you not just hear me?" she asked pointedly as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Everything, everything is ruining my life," she hissed pushing herself up into a sitting position.
"Ever since daddy disappeared nothing is right," she told him, huffing and puffing from her earlier fit. "There are these strange lions taking my rightful place and they're just going to ruin it! They're going to change everything and nothing is going to be the same and I hate it! I hate that everything is changing and it's different and it's just NOT how it's supposed to be!" She whined ignoring the fact that her father hadn't chosen her as his successor, he hadn't openly chosen anyone but she didn't care. In her spoiled little mind she was the one he would have picked.
There wasn't a doubt in her mind.
"This isn't how things are supposed to be Laec," she told him in a matter of fact tone even as her expression softened and she sighed. "I just, I don't like it you know. These changes, things are going to be the same and I'm not okay with it. I guess..." she trailed off mumbling and shaking her head.

"Oh...oh yeah. Right." He blinked. Stuff had happened in the pride recently, hadn't it? In truth, he hadn't actually bothered to pay much attention. Politics was boring and it tended to make everyone sour-faced and moody. Not exactly the best sorts of people to play pranks on. After all, a light tap on the paw became a hiss and a snarl that sent him dashing away in fright.
And he'd only meant it as fun...
"So...if you don't like it. Do something about it? You could...tell them that they're going to mess it up?" He gave a shrug. "Or...I don't know...you could go find the Goddess and tell her how it's supposed to be, I guess. Maybe she got it wrong. Adults and...and gods...they don't always get it right." He nodded, confident in his own assumptions. "They just think they do." He beamed, clearly pleased with his advice giving.

"Ha," she laughed bitterly at the idea of telling the adults and actually having them listen to her. "Please, like adults ever listen to what kids have to say. Even when they're right," she replied frowning at the idea. "Though you're right, I should stop laying around and doing nothing about it. Laying around moping has done nothing for me," she told him thoughtfully suddenly struck by an idea and it showed in the way her words blurred together and her speech became rapid.
"But I can do something! I know exactly what I'll do, I'm going to leave Laec, I'm going to leave this stupid place before they can ruin it!" She was nearly bouncing with excitement. Her tail flicked back and forth rapidly as she suddenly sprang towards him. She was practically in his face at this point.
"But I can't go alone, that simply won't do," she frowned briefly before another idea struck. "YOU should come with me!"

"Yeah...guess that's true." He sat back and shifted his weight to scratch at his ear with a hind paw. "I suppose it's cos they're bigger." It made sense. After all...bigger lions were...better at stuff? Maybe? He gave another loose shrug and lost balance, rolling on his side on the grass.
"Leave?"
And then she was bouncing towards him and he blinked rapidly, trying to process exactly what was going on. All he could utter again was; "leave?" Another moment and he reached out with a paw, batting it at her. "Wait...me? ME?!" He rolled away, back to his paws, and turned to face her. "But...but where would we go? We're just little and the world is...the world is BIG, Nila! I mean...I've not even found my muse yet or anything."
But...maybe there was a reason for that and if he wanted adventure and excitement, he certainly wasn't going to find it here.
"Okay...maybe I'll go with you."
Which meant he would.

"Yes!" She exclaimed excitedly, practically bouncing up and down in place. "Yes! Let's leave and get away from here! Maybe we can even go and find my papa! That'd be so great don't you think? Or our cousin Rive! It'd be an adventure Laec!" She crouched low, her butt sticking in the air as she wiggled about. Oooooh, ideas were forming in her little mind.
"It'll be great! Besides, I'm sure we'd be able to come back if we had to," she tried to assure him, eager to sway him to her side. She couldn't go alone, there was no telling what could happen to a young lioness like herself. Besides, Laec didn't have much going for him here anyway, she knew he'd been struggling with his muse.
"Yaaaaaaay!" She cheered happily as he agreed to join her, in his own way. "Oooh I'm so excited Laec, it'll be great! I just know it. We'll be fine, I'm tough, together we can handle anything. I'm certain of that," she stated proudly as she stood up, puffing her chest out in pride. "My muse is always shifting, moving from place to place. I should too!"

"I think I would like an adventure." He agreed without much thought. After all, adventures were fun and awesome and stuff, right? Adventure was good! He wasn't going to turn down an opportunity like that. He leapt to his paws and bounced in a circle around her; contemplating a sneak-pounce.
"So when should we go, then? Do we...have to wait for a special day or something or can we just go?"
He was getting more and more excited about the prospects with each passing moment. Maybe this was the opportunity he was waiting for. After all, if his muse was not here he'd never be a proper adult and never be a true member of the pride. It only made sense that it was outside somewhere, waiting for him.

Excitement was practically pouring off of the white and blue lioness as her body trembled with it. She shook her head at her cousin's question. "Nope! Do the clouds ever wait when they rain?" She questioned knowing he would lack an answer for her. "Nope! Never!" She shook her head as she tilted it back to look up at the sky, free of most clouds. "Why even now it could rain if they so wished it!" She leaned so far back that she fell on her back.
"Ooof!" She groaned though she quickly erupted in laughter.
"We should leave soon, tomorrow even?" She suggested rolling onto her belly. "Can we? Oh please, oh please?"

He bobbed his head in agreement, bouncing from paw to paw as he thought of their adventure. Exciting times lay ahead, of that he was certain. And who knows, maybe one day they'd come back and see what had come of this place and whether the changes were the right ones after all.
"Tomorrow! Yes! Where should we meet?" He pondered a moment, laughing at her antics and reaching out to tap her with a paw. "Think we should go in the morning? I...could try and wake up on time..." He seemed sheepish. Mornings weren't exactly the nicest time of the day. He did enjoy his sleep, after all. But he certainly didn't want to sleep too long and have her leave without him.
That just wouldn't do at all!

Nila had to think about it for a moment, after all where on earth would they meet? There were so many places that Nila could think of, but what would be the best place for them. She frowned as she pondered the possibilities. "Let's meet where the ocean meets the rock cliff," she told him springing up and onto her paws.
"Okay?" She cocked her to the left as she waited his response. "Meet as early as possible okay? I won't wait for you long," she warned frowning so slightly before her grin returned and she darted forward batting him on the nose.
"This will be great."

"Where the ocean meets the rock cliff." He confirmed with a swift nod, knowing that he wouldn't get hardly any sleep now that he was going to wake up to something other than playing pranks on the adults. It was both scary and exhilarating.
"Okay, okay. I promise, Nila. I'll be there!" He wriggled, leaping to his paws as she batted his nose and running a small circle. "An adventure! Great is definitely the word! I hope no one misses us too much." Would they? Maybe. Did he care? Not particularly. Well, yes, he'd miss them, too, but jsut because they were leaving didn't mean they couldn't come back and visit, right?
Course not!
"I'll be there at sun-up! You better not be late, either!" He teased, flicking an ear. "See you in the morning!"
He had a lot of preparation to do!
